Hey guys!

I ordered my 3 day Bader Field pass a little while ago, and still haven't received it in the mail. I was just wondering if everyone who ordered the pass got theirs yet. I'm getting a bit anxious haha

Thanks!

dark star orchestra, railroad earth, george porter jr just to name a few. it's located at tuxedo ridge, ny, which is about 15-20 minutes from my house. should be a very cool, laid back scene, and can't imagine it's going to get very crowded. not marketed all that heavily. if anyone's going, let me know.

Anyone Staying here? It seems to be a great price for 4 nights with an ocean view (less than $600). Its at the end of the boardwalk, 2.5 miles from Bader...Cake walk. Granted it's not as close as the Trop, but its $250 cheaper.

Has anyone ever stayed here? If so, how good/bad are the rooms?

Thanks for your help!

to the 5/16/95 Reba! 17 years ago today what is widely considered a top 3 (top 4 for me after 10/31/94, 7/6/94, and Clifford Ball) Reba reared its beastly head. SO if you haven't heard this awe-inspiring jam have a listen, because this Reba is indeed one of "the finest in the nation".

Moral quandary--advice?

***warning longish post, but I'd love your input if you've got the time***

So I figured I'd let the good folks here at .net mull this over with me. Its an issue that's been bouncing around in my mind for years and I can't seem to make up my mind what to do. Fortunately I won't have to make this decision for a few years, so its no rush right now, but has been weighing on me. People I talk to understand the dilemma, but haven't been too helpful in terms of guidance.

Basically the issue is this: I teach Biology in a public high school in the Boston area and have been for 7 years. Its a good school & community-- I have lived in the same town for 6 years and owned a house here with my wife. I see this a place we could live & I could teach for my entire career.

Originally we figured we'd send my son (Leo, he's just 15 months) through the local schools, I've seen good/excellent students come out of our schools. However, the past few years I've been less than impressed by the overall direction of the school/district. Maybe I'm too aware of the inner workings of the school, but I'm not sure its where I would want him to necessarily go now.
I know I'm a good teacher (i'll be teaching AP bio next year), but the way the schools are set up (class size, scheduling, equipment, etc). prevents me from being the best teacher I can be. My colleagues are good too, but in a similar situation--issues with class size, etc. I simply don't teach as well to 120 students as I would to 100 or 80, or 60. Not that I'm a bad teacher, but I'm not necessarily as good as I could be-- there are a lot of factors that inhibit learning in the school.

Now that Leo's here and I'm doubting the schools I'm teaching in, private school could be an option. The finances likely won't be a huge issue (teaching there could even be an option, but that would be another topic), so if we found a school that worked well for Leo, my wife and I, it could be tempting. Of course, that means we'd be essentially communicating: the school system I teach in isn't good enough for my own son.

How hypocritical would it be to send my son to private school rather than through the local school district where we live & I teach?

What do you think, .net?

SPAC-Pop's Lake Bus $10 each way

I received the contract from Brown's Charter School Bus. SPAC is 51 days away. I wanted to check on numbers so we can get thing lined up. The bus holds 44 people. $10 a person each way is WAY cheaper then cabbing it. This includes the tip for the driver. So $20 each day to and from. It's safe and easy and we would probably get a better spot than if we parked in the park randomly. We are allowed to bring backpacks with us on the bus. We are not suppose to have alcohol on the bus, but if everyone is cool and discreet, you can transport in your bag and drink on the lot. And as long as you don't mind being cramped in your seat, camping chairs can also come along. The bus can be our central spot. We can leave stuff on it during the show. Not sure how secure it might be. I plan on having a list of people who have paid so that I can stand at the bus camp counselor style, clipboard in hand checking names. I would also collect cell numbers so that when it's 10 min. before we have to leave and someone isn't there yet I can try their cell and they can tell me they are two back in line from getting their french bread pizza with garlic powder on it and we can hold the bus up until they come. Please let me know if there is anyone else who you know of that will want to be a part of this. The ride should be a lot of fun to and from. As long as we are all "cool" and adults about things. I did have it noted in the contract that if someone is an asshole, the driver has the right to boot them. I didn't want to end up loosing our ride because someone I don't know is f'ked up and wants to be a dick. The money will be collected ahead of time. You can either mail me a check or do it through Paypal. Pick up will be at the campgrounds at 3 PM and take us the SPAC and we are to leave an hour after the show, which should be fine so we can rage more at camp. Except for FRIDAY because people will be arriving and trying to set up camp. Departure will be at 4:45, so everyone has time to 4:20, take a leak, and hit the bus. That should get us to the show by 5:30/6, It's going to be a good time. More info to come. Can't wait!!!!!!

Jones Beach SRO - Experiences?

Hi guys,

I managed to nab some SRO to the 4th show a few weeks ago - from what I can tell the "Standing Room" is either the little triangle stage left (next to the light orange orchestra seats) visible in this picture that I jacked from Mr.Miner's site (thanks!), or the combination of the little triangle and the rectangle of space directly behind it.

Wondering if anyone has been in this section before and has anything to say about it. I ask because getting there on the 4th for me is doable but will be a real pain in the ass due to a family vacation ending that day, and I am planning to do Saratoga anyway that weekend..so I am considering selling the tickets to some of my friends.

It looks like this section is either AMAZING, or unbelievably horrible. I guess my questions would be:

1) Is the area behind the "triangle" also SRO? If so that means they sell enough SRO tickets to fill the whole area, and that to get up to the triangle is really hard? I could see it being pretty awesome if they only sold like 100 tickets for that little area only..
2) Is the view/sound compromised unless you nab a really great spot? It looks like farther back you have a 40' wall in your way?

Thanks a ton for your help, and have a ballin day.

your first tape vs your first show

i was just sitting around thinking, and i was wondering how long you were into phish, before you got to see a show ( i know that there are some people on here that prob didnt like the band before they saw them live, dargged by your friends etc..., and i would love to hear from them too)

i was into the dead a little from my sister, and i got my first phish tape (its sad that tapes are so foreign to younger phans)in fall of 1997..it was 12.29.93... and i had tickets for msg 98, but i got in trouble with my folks and was barred from going. So my first show wasnt until 7.15.99
i had almost a year and half of listening, and i thought i knew everything there was to know haha..

so tell tales of your experience between your first tape (or cd, or even scarier download), and your first show

Hope everyone is having a great wednesday
cheers
