The Mockingbird Foundation
The Mockingbird Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Phish fans in 1996 to generate charitable proceeds from the Phish community.
And since we’re entirely volunteer – with no office, salaries, or paid staff – administrative costs are less than 2% of revenues! So far, we’ve distributed over $1,000,000 to support music education for children – hundreds of grants in all 50 states, with more on the way.
Last night I clicked on one of the 'Reaction Vids' there was a musician/drummer hearing Phish for the first time and he's blown away--as are most of the reaction vids I see of the boys. He's listen to Bounce and CDT from Live One and just picking out all these incredible things that we just seem to be like "meh...business as usual" ie. Fish's drum fills, or Mikes lead bass lines or the interplay between Trey and Page. Just going on and on about how effing great this is... A few days later he's 'reacting' to the 'A Live One' "Slave", and, is even more into it.
Then I remember my early years and the first time seeing Phish live and how blown away I was. Blown more away than my first Dead show. I remember how every cool thing they did or every awesome jam that just meshed the fours playing seamlessly, but, also in a creatively reactive way as well.
The music on A Live One is 30 years old and since then Phish has gotten sooo much better on several levels. We complain when Trey pulls a rip cord into Dirt or Velvet Sea, but, taken alone those versions are often beautiful versions.
So, do you guys and gals think we sometimes take the music they fill our ears with for granted?
