Best show of Summer 2010 so far....

YorkvilleBeerLover Permalink
YorkvilleBeerLover Anyone have any thoughts, I know that there are different strokes for different folks but since I've only been to hershey, I'll say Hershey.

Anyone else have thoughts?

vinnyphish I think Hershey just barely beats out Cleveland. 6/12 had the amazing Band cover and the R&R> Hood> Backwards> 20 Years Later is astounding. But overall 6/13 has the best flow and is just front-to-back awesome. I love that Jiboo opener (one of my favs ever) and all the songs in the 1st set are well played. The 2nd set really cooks with the Drowned> Tweezer> Twist. Whooo. My one complaint is I wish they would jam more on Piper. They were doing disgusting jams on Piper in the '03-'04 period. Oh well just feeling nostalgic.

Phunky_Mango Has to be last nights show for sure. The tweeprise opener is some old school phish and it got the crowd into an all out party. Spac no doubt. Can't wait to see the set for tonight!!

First night SPAC 'cause it was my three year old girl's first show and we got to take a rickshaw ride around the park, catch tadpoles in the reflection pool and groove hard-core kid style on Spac's super special lawn. Epoch experience for the whole family.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

oh dude rickshaw ride's are the jam! happy early fathers day my friends.

Random comment: 4 tweeprize in 24 hours means one thing: the boys are laughing and having fun. This could be the single most important factor in keeping them together and healthy over the next several years. Happiness trumps all!

Hartford 2. Without question.

Mr_Miner I was at both shows in Hartford and the both were amazing. I was so excited to hear the classics like Dinner and a Movie and Esther.....It only took 21 years to hear Walk Away again,,,,which blazed. When they opened with Fee on night 2 I thought that they were going to play the entire Junta album over two nights....sadly we were a Yem, David Bowie, and Contact short.

One side note, Cirque du Soleil was playing across the street and hence, Circus and Esther. Inside joke. Love it!

Difficult decision but i'd have to go with night two as well.

Seem to be on my own here, but I say Hartford 1. Went to everything but Chicago and Cleveland. They had that old school infectious energy. The farmhouse solo is one of the most sophisticated solos I've ever heard in my twenty years watching Trey. Not flashy. Perfect. Sensitive. Expierienced. Wow!
The Shine a Light was heartfelt by everyone. I was holding back tears of joy!!
Nice versions of d&m, Esther(!), walk away, dsky. Trey killed Alaska too which is really growing on me. See y'all in Mansfield!!!!!

Phish1 Permalink
Phish1 I have to go Hartford 1 as well. Just insane energy, really brought me back to the days.

But damn, why do I have this nagging gut feeling that Mansfield is soon going to be mentioned in this thread...

joechip Permalink
joechip Hartford 2 brought the heat from beginning to end, with a great flow to the 2nd set. Loved how Light and Faulty Plan fit right in with the old school favorites. Foam, Reba and Theme were all stomped flat. The double tweezer reprise blew the roof off. Sick.

johnnyd SPAC 2 was absolutely monumental. I'm trying to think if I've seen a better stand-alone show out of 60+ in 18 years.

I'm ecstatic for/jealous of those of you who are yet to get out there this year.

DrPeterVenkman SPAC night 1 set 1, I couldn't believe it was happening in front of me. If we could have combined night 1 set 1 with night two set two...I'd be DEAD right now. AMAZING. Over all though? What a fantastic two nights, couldn't be happier.

Your life was saved with ROCK N ROLL.

chris_22 Yeah Ed, I was floored the whole first set of night one. I lost it when the opened with the tweeprise, I had called it moments before. Suzy was amazing, and the glowstick war was amazing. More to come when I have more time to think. Ha.

Thunder Permalink
Thunder i thought hartford 1 was iffy for the following reasons...
farmhouse and guyute were butched.
dwd-> sand was awesome and then trey just starts playing the horse, like e's not even listening to the shit the boys are throwing down.
(shine a light was nice, as was alaska and party time.)

but hartford 2 was another story. Fee opener. Hello. Really dug the 2nd set, especially Billy Breathes coming out of Light. One of the tour highlights, imho.

haven't listened to any shows in entirety, and this is the first tour in a long while i'm not actually catching a show, just saying. haven't listened to spac yet.

castinajig Permalink
castinajig SPAC 2 they put 200% into that show and it was pumping......CARINI HAD A LUMPY HEAD!!!
Piper just raged ,Page was killing it all nite ,,you know scratch that.... they all killed it that nite!

and insane Antelope!! Energy levels off the Chart and they seemed so Happy, just wish the Kids Back stage would of got the nerve to come back out on during YEM trampolines ,,,anyone see Trey waving them to come out on stage?? That would off been something.

4 TWEEPRISES IN 2 SHOWS! phreaking epic!! SPAC night 1 takes it down with the Tweeprise sandwich. Every song in the first set is note worthy. No standard versions this night. the band was fluid in jams (minus the halfway-> caspian trey cut off) No complaints about a short one song encore with a very well done coil, ripping character zero> FORTH TWEEPRISE IN 2 SHOWS!!!!

Hartford night two is a very close second given that there isn't thing wrong with that show either. great energy all night and the band sounded like a cohesive unit through setlist.

I was saying the SAME thing the whole show. Such an amazing energy that weekend. Ended up 4th row for Makisupa and nearly lost my mind. That's BY FAR the closest I've been to the band.

TIMBO I don't understand this. I gave it till lunch break. I really was under the impression that last nights Camden show was a slam dunk over all others. I really thought that was obvious. I guess thats why I like spontaneous improved music....... I got no idea what everyone esle is listening to. On another front... Im nervous about which way tonight goes. Still have a Ghost and Tweezer floating, Still have a TTE floating. I think it is going one way or the other. little worried about the "Friday Night Show". Just like fall in Philly. The whole world screamed "The night before thanks giving". THe band blew up the night before it.

Most of this thread was done BEFORE last nights show. There's four from today for SPAC. Last night was a great show for real. I think there is a "being there" feeling in effect. The Rover MUST stay in rotation, Page WILL get better on vocals. I'm not a fan of the Bug encore though.

johnnyd I love that we have so many people here that have seen so many shows this year and over the years and there is nothing close to a consensus as to what the best show of 2010 so far is.

I think that speaks to a few things:
The fact that we like different flavors or styles of a phish show
The fact that they are good enough that their shows can take on many flavors or styles
And the fact that they are playing at such a consistently exceptional level that almost every show's got a vote and at least 4 have really strong support as 'best'. Surely with more to be added to the list.
Dont call me Shirley.

That said, SPAC 2 was definitely the best and the rest of you clearly have no idea what you're talking about. Neeners.

Rock out tonight kids, wish I was gonna be there...

vinnyphish Well now that a few days has passed since my last post, I must now say without question my new favorite show is Camden 2. I remember tuning into Hoodstream to watch some of the 2nd set and it was right in the middle of the 2001 jam. I knew then and there this one was a barn-burner. Altough I'm still playing my copy of SPAC 2 almost daily still :)

JohnnyD nails it. I just watched last nights 2001 ridoncles...I have the complete inability to rank ANYTHING at this point. Camden sure did get treated like a special little lady. I'm keeping a spatula next to my laptop for the rest of the Summer....and a ladle.

Phunky_Mango I would have to say that Camden was my favorite of the tour. Especially the first night. The second set with crosseyed and then the hood> fluff> julius> Yem combo just took my head off. But the the last night in Camden did have its strong points. Please listen to the 2001> thiller, billie jean> 2001. Absolutely NUTS. The place was electric and the energy was HIGH. Great 2 shows at camden.

parrott56 I wasn't at Camden--caught most of the shows on the PhishTwit streams--but I was at both nights Merriweather, and I'm pretty convinced that one of those two shows has got to be the best of summer so far. I think a lot of people are going to prefer second night Merriweather because of the bust-outs and second-set Saw It Again/Jumpin' Jack Flash madness (and I might prefer it too), but don't overlook the first night: R&R AND Tweezer AND Wolfman's are three of the best jams of summer, each charting completely different ground, and the rest of the show rocked hard. I might spend quite some time chasing shows as good as these two beautiful, hot nights in Merriweather.

Thank you, Phish.

I think the theme of this thread is that the tour is gaining significant momentum as it progresses. I wouldn't at all be surprised if the best shows come from the southern run to close it out. Maybe I should find a way to get to Berkeley...
