if she hogs the bed you could play lenthwise.
you'll never get out of this maze, you'll never get out of this maze!!
ha ha, kidding. i'm actually doing some wedding planning myself. we are keeping it casual and holding a little reception at my buddies bar. i'm just making a play list on my ipod, and you better believe, i'm sneaking all kinds of goofy shit on there... hello hampton '97 emotional rescue!!
waste would be ok if the listeners "get" the message. taken literally its not a great message to send at a wedding.I was worried about the same thing. But as long as my girl and I get it thats what really matters
Wedding I was at a couple weeks ago they used different parts of YEM for coming down the aisle, heading back up the aisle, and being introduced. It was quite well done.
Congrats!!!
john cameron mitchell (hedwig and the angry inch) sang waste at his brother's wedding.
My husband and his mother danced to "Us and Them" for their mother son dance. Aside from Pink Floyd being his favorite band of all time it was symbolic of the the bond and life they shared after his parents' divorce.
Have you thought about Strange Design? The first time my husband heard this song, teary-eyed he turned to me and said "That's you!" I didn't understand what he meant in all the commotion but when we talked about it afterward he told me...."that's exactly how I feel....it's a weird life but I'm fine as long as I have you along for the ride!" Of course I was teary-eyed then too!
When you listen to the lyrics they seem to be very simple but in fact they are extremely profound. Personally I find them to be very comforting! However, the song can come across as a bit morbid and the discussion as to whether or not the last verse's "my heart's not beating anymore.....it's alright this happened once before" is a reference to death or reincarnation or neither is still debated. For me the reference is not about one's mortality but about the "death" of a part/time/habit in one's life. A huge life changing event....A Marriage, becoming a parent (which according to Trey is why he wrote it), a big move, career change, etc.
To me the "heart's not beating anymore" references the few seconds of time when you feel as though your heart actually stops and your human instinct takes over. This happens when you are both frightened and excited! It's the whole fight or flight thing. That instinct kicks in all the time...in both good times and bad times. The refrain starts "I'm fine, I'm fine" and that's when your brain takes back over, you settle your body down, and make a choice......that choice that puts you "swimming in the real thing I call life." Once the choice is made you look to share it with someone...."Can I bring a few companions on this ride?" In my life these "companions" started with my husband and now include our two wonderful children!
Not to mention if you read the entire refrain there is this back and forth pattern of ? and answer, advice followed by support. I hear the conversation as being between one and their creator but it would work between any two parties who are each others support system (husband/wife.)
Loving cup is a good one too....a bit sexual to "walk down the aisle" to maybe.....but as an introduction or "first dance" it'd be a lot of fun!
Koodus to you for thinking outside the box....I wish you a marriage full of laughter and love!

My lady and I just got married after 15 years of living in sin while following phish.
We walked in to Waste (our friend played it on her guitar) our first dance was Mellow Mood (Bob's version) but our next song (when everyone joins) was a sweet 10 min. Boogie.

If I ever got married, I've always liked the idea of hearing "Blue Sky".
Congrats!

I can't think of very many love songs that they do.If I could, Strange Design, Velvet Sea, Fast Enough For You, Horn, Silent, need I go on?

I think dancing to slow songs is kind of a let down. It's a celebration right? Then get down. At least that's what I did at my wedding.

But it is a celebration and they're all great songs.

1. Waste
2. Love - Peter Tosh/Bob Marley
3. Mellow mood - Bob Marley

The girls walked in to Glide II.
The bride walked in to TMWSIY.

The final dance was Waste.
i'm still pretty proud of this mix...

waste is sort of the cliche phish song to dance to at the wedding. that could also be because most phish songs don't really "fit the mold" for this type of situation. use another band and rock some REAL phish throughout the reception!! hello bathtub gin and camel walk....This is what I'm doing. The way to go for sure.
ps i'm doing the wedding planning right now too.same here..getting married in a few months...I wanted to leave the alter to chalkdust...but she shot that down...couple of phish tunes during the reception will do...
JOY!

speaking of weddings...I believe this is true...anyone know which song was inspired by a wedding gift?
My Friend, My Friend
My wedding was new years eve this year. We had the bridal party announced into the reception to 2001. My wife and I were announced in right at the climax of the song. Shut the night down w tweeprise from 12/30/10

Also, some of the acoustic instrumental or quieter stuff works really well for cocktail hour or dinner music. Inlaw is a perfect example. We also used some big band/rat pack stuff and threw a Magilla on the playlist.
