Why NOT to have a Gamehendge movie

bouncintophish Permalink
bouncintophish I've been thinking about it and I thought I would hate to have a movie made for it. Because every time you heard the song, instead of imagining what it would be like, you'd remember the movie, which might suck.

Let me know your input, for or against.

meekda Permalink
def against. theres already a movie in my head. and prolly the same with everyone, most likely a little altered
Score: 3

ggergm Permalink
ggergm I'm trying to think of one case where I saw a bad adaptation of a good book and the movie has stayed with me. A lot of Ray Bradbury stuff comes to mind as I loved him as a young reader and there has never been a great movie version of one of his stories. Yes, I remember scenes from Fahrenheit 451, probably the best movie of a Bradbury story, The Sound of Thunder and even a TV version of The Martian Chronicles, but nothing ruins my love of the written stories. Those are still what I'm emotionally tied to.

I'd say make it but only if Keira Knightley is Tela.

Mike doesn't care too much for the saga.

Jayem Permalink
Jayem Im pretty sure Trey has done interviews years ago saying he doesn't want to make $ on Gamehendge. Meaning no full album, movie, book, etc. I have no source for this just something I remember hearing
Score: 0

tait_nucleus Permalink
tait_nucleus i agree in not making a movie. having real people portray characters in TMWSIY just wouldn't bake in my oven. i think illustrations or a book might not be too bad, but its important to keep the listeners (and readers) imagination open to interpretation.

CleverRuse Permalink
CleverRuse Phish paints images with their music, therefore no movie is necessary. It's more fun to imagine what a scene or characters might look like when listening to the music.

forbins0218 Permalink
forbins0218 I always though a Broadway show would be ideal as well

TannisRoot Permalink
TannisRoot The movie or musical would inevitably suck. Plus the role of Icculus would automatically go to Ian McClelland, and who needs that? But I will say, Kenneth Branagh would make a fine evil King Wilson.

Nice pick, but if it happened, why not Steve Buscemi as The Evil King? I think it may have even been mentioned here before.

MiguelSanchez there is no movie because they say so. the boys agreed many years ago to never make money off gamehendge.

morgan freeman = wilson

Chilly Permalink
Chilly I think it would be awful personally. Would not be down.

The only way they could pull it off is if it was a crazy trippy ass animated type movie, like Yellow Submarine or The Wall (at least for parts of it). An actual theatrical film would be terrible.

Hopefully they put it on Netflix

jerryguscia Permalink
jerryguscia To me, Gamehendge is much more beautiful and innocent than the movie world. If it's done simply because it should be or something (not just for avarice and greed); it could be good (like a music version of Sesame Street to me).
Score: 0

mfhgreyboy Permalink
mfhgreyboy It would translate well to children's literature, I think.
Score: 1

AncientEgyptianPaper Permalink
AncientEgyptianPaper Against. For me, Phish is all about the sonic experience. I like to close my eyes and just listen and let the music take me somewhere. I think a visual would be distracting and take away from the freedom in the sound...
Score: 0

steamstash Permalink
steamstash against. Wilson, the mocking bird, tela, and everything about gamehedge is better imagined.
Score: 0

SconyMack Permalink
SconyMack i think that a live gamehendge set in 2013 would be more than sufficient.

because a Broadway adaptation would be a million times better
^Agreed, because part of me would love to see this acted out the way Trey envisions his story. I'm also on board with everyone else in that I think Gamehendge is an imagined land and should stay that way. I'd hate to have it ruined by cinema.

it starts in the lot, where our hero, doing n2o passes out...and enters gamehenge...
trey=wilson; fishman=icculus...

i see ac/dc bag as kind of a rocky horror time warp...

cameo's gallore, hidden nuggets...ect.
