I was front row at Augusta and saw Trey get hit twice with glow sticks. The first time he was in the middle of a solo and got hit right on his chest. He had this sad look on his face and lost his concentration for a few seconds before looking a little pissed and then getting back into it. The second time he got hit in on the left leg and it totally spooked him. Later in the night one came real close to Page but I don't think it was a direct hit. I felt really bad that people would do that. It takes alot of concentration and to have a hunk of plastic being thrown at you while you are trying to focus can't be fun. I can only imagine that people are so wasted that they either don't realize they are throwing them that far or it's some warped offering to their guru or something. Either way I thought it was really disappointing. If I see anyone doing that intentionally I think the least I would do is let them know it's not cool. I'm a pretty peaceful person so I probably will not PUNCH YOU IN THE EYE

IenjoyMyself There are probably more threads about glowsticks than music, I understand it sucks when they get thrown at band, but there's not much any of us can do besides not bring glowsticks.

Really think we have beaten this issue to death.

I too hate seeing the band pelted with glowsticks (or anything for that matter). In Providece I saw all of them hit numerous times. People were clearly throwing them with that intent. This is wrong on so many levels. It is up to us to kindly inform those around us throwing things at the stage that it's not the way we do things. I am not opposed to glowsticks when they enhance the experience during Hood, but the constant chucking and collecting of them has become an unwanted distraction I think we should replace the glowsticks with the streamers. They looked pretty cool to me and you can't really hit anyone with them.

I was really digging confetti and streamers. Not sure how anyone could be opposed to that

barefootbob ^^^I don't want to sound like a broken record but someone should start to pass out something..^^^

Most everyone here GETS IT. It is up to us to do something fast. I wish I could make it out to the East Coast to help organize something this fall and/or NYE run - but come next summer if this shits still going on ...I will do it.

Glow sticks suck! Gate crashers suck! - its all negative vibes, and I know the boys feel it.

jackl Well, at the risk of getting flamed or "voted down" on this post, I didn't see glowsticks being flung at the stage in Utica. People threw a few around the arena in front of the stage, but there wasn't much of a sustained "war" either. Most were just "absorbed" into the crowd on the floor. And I didn't see any flung at the band or stage.

Granted, I wasn't on the floor, but I did have a very good view of the stage because the venue is very small; I was in very sweet arena seats about six rows above the floor.

I wasn't at Charleston, so I take the reports at the word that some people did throw glowsticks at the stage, but I'm wondering if people talking about Utica being a problem are just "piling on" yet another glowstick thread. I didn't see glowsticks being any big "problem" at Utica, but YMMV.

IenjoyMyself It happens at every show, I was at amherst last night and didn't notice it but I was on floor. Providence wasn't as bad as chucktown.

But I think people are being naive to think any of us can control it. even if we pass out flyers the people throwing at stage are typically spun out of their mind so probably wouldn't remember or.care about a flyer.

I also think we are being too sensitive about it. Sure it is disrespectful, but if the band really cared they would put a ban on the things. they are grown men, and I'm sure have experienced worse things in their lives.

all I'm saying is none of us should let the occasional glowstick that ends up on stage ruin our night or even the thirty seconds when we see it happen at a show. it is beyond our control and it is unhealthy to worry and get upset about things that we cannot control

That's where I'm coming from. Glowticks getting thrown "at" the band is one thing. Glowsticks that land on stage, like balloons or beach balls...no big deal or sign of "disrespect". My 0.02,

IenjoyMyself Trust me Id take seeing a few glowstick end up stage over sitting in front of some darsch on a quarter of shrooms dancing like he is at a KoRn show and punching his friend in the face. Then hitting ivy in the back of the head giving me and my crew a horrible vibe. Because that's exactly what happened last night, never been happy to hear someone was arrested until last night.

Wishful thinking man, best advice is to not read threads you don't like. Not sure you can control what others talk about. I too think this issue has been beaten to the ground, but also enjoy throwing my 2 cents on this subject because I like participating in as many discussions as possible.

IenjoyMyself Hoping this three turns nto a thread about things that are worse than glowstick. In addition to my previous post we also had super sketch balls in our section that one by one continued to walk in and out of the section. Not to dance in the aisle, not sure where the hell they kept going. But litterally each of them got up and left at least ten times through out the night. Not during wading, during a meat stick opener, during hood, during yem. Why are you at the show if your constantly shuffling in and out of your section.

bryannati Glowsticks and the people that bring them are lame. Honestly, they add ZERO value to a Phish show. In fact, they're more likely to ruin a show for someone than anything.

CinnamonGirl Ack! I hate getting hit in the back of the head. A glowstick to the back of the head I can live with. The guy a row up behind me, night two in Chucktown, was having some sort of religious-like experience. He kept hitting me with his slow yet rhythmic dancey praying hands. Ugh! I'm pretty sure he was beyond the realm of the spoken word so I had to just endure.

wow that's not a huge generalization or anything... I know a lot of people that brought glowsticks to shows, along with value. now that value was not.the glowsticks but it was there friendly and enjoyable personality that I enjoyed being around.

Yes, this topic has been beaten to death. Yes, we are all sick of them (supposedly). I find it humorous though that the same people that gave me all sorts of grief for mentioning this in the early planning stages of the Charleston "War" are now preaching the same things that I got ostracized for. Oh, the irony.

The bottom line is, good intentions or not, if these toys are brought into the shows, they WILL and always DO find their way onto the stage. And more often than anybody would like to admit, they even hit the band. I am not preaching right/wrong or laying down rules or trying to act "holier than thou,'' or anything of the sort. I would just like to think that we have all realized the disruption these children's toys cause to the boys and concert-goers alike.

That said, see you guys in AC!

brdphsh The first time I saw this I was at f 8 Jon side when some kid started pelting the boys and I freaked out on him and the rest of the people joined in. He said they were so good it didn't matter. But I unleashed my verbal rage and so did others. We forced him back and out of range. Maybe that should be the course of action taken by responsible phans. Ban together and refuse to accept behavior that disrupts the music,ie vibe etc.
