Hell of a year, that 2010...

ivy_light Permalink
ivy_light I was going to write a long, sappy post about how awesome 2010 was for me Phish-wise. I'll just limit it to the highlights and a few serious thank yous.

I went to my very first show in June 2010 at Camden as a confirmed Phish-hater. That show changed my mind, obviously, as almost exactly 6 months later I found my self near the rail at my 15th show in Worcester.

I would not have had as much fun (and in some cases would not have been at some shows at all) without meeting some of you from this forum. And I somewhat intend this post to demonstrate how great the things going on in this forum are. So here's a few shout-outs. I tried to remember everybody but I know I'm leaving a lot of the people I met out. Rest assured that it was special meeting you all. Here goes:

@sethadam1 and everybody else who keeps this site running so beautifully: Thanks for creating a wonderful forum. I hope that we can have a lot presence like @DrPeterVenkman has been lobbying for. I'll be happy to help organize meet-ups in the future or in any other way that I can.

@forbins0218, @wattznext, @phishfoodeater, @bostonron, @DrPeterVenkman, @BadJustin, @Trev_917, @PhishSince94, @CinnamonGirl and all the rest of you I met but forget your screen names (apologies): What can I say but it was great meeting you! Here's to many, MANY more shows together in the future!

@castinajig and @waterinthesky: It was so good to meet you guys in AC and @castinajig nice to see you again in Worcester. Do the Deer Creek/Alpine run this summer. I'll pitch my tent next to yours :)

@IenjoyMyself: Thanks for the ride to Charleston, first of all. That was my first experience with anyone from this site and it was wonderful. Grooving to that The Curtain With with you 4 rows back solidified me as a certified phan. So glad to have caught a Julius with you in Providence and the Tweetstick Meatprise in Amherst. See you at MPP for sure!

@yoursongtoo: I've said it 1000 times but I think it warrants another go: Thanks for Utica. It was by far one of the craziest things I've done in my life (and you know how long that is :) ). "When the perfectly planned, is completely insane." I hope to see you at more shows and that any that you make it to this summer are as special for you as some this past year have been.

@phishybanjo: Thanks for introducing me to Phish. I know you think I need an intervention at this point. I promise not to sacrifice too much money or time for Phish but, hey, you're only in your 30s once (LOL). You're the best show buddy ever!

Ok. That was a long, sappy post. Sounds like an Oscar acceptance speech. Ah well. Needed to get all that out before starting the new year. Thanks to you if you made it this far.

To summer!!

ivy_light Shameless bump. I'm diggin' my 30s so far. It just so happens to be that the average age of a Phish phan is around 30-something. So I don't feel too out of of place.

sethadam1 I think we're all continually amazed at how awesome this place has become. None of us expected that the tone of the forum would be so pleasant, friendly, and warm. It's so satisfying to be part of the team that delivers this site and this service and then watch people use it in such a positive way.

You simply won't believe all the things we've got on tap. If you love things now, wait 'til you see what's in store for Phish.net in 2011...

YorkvilleBeerLover What a 2010 it was for me...hit as many shows in the last year as I did in my whole life.
10 shows in 2010 - I have to say without this board I would never had the knowledge/insight/kindness/tickets/rides/ etc. to any of these gigs. I am eternally grateful - this band gave me something in 2010 I haven't had inside me since about 1991 when the Grateful Dead last motivated me to spend all of my money and time following them.

Thanks Phish for 10 solid shows. Keep playing these small venues please!

Guyute76 After being really disappointed with Phish after they came back in 2003 and 2004 I never really listened to the them since then. While at a local jam band show in Buffalo I ran into some really great new friends.

While my friend Randy is a huge Phish fan, and we talked a little about how the band has been since coming back in 2009. He recommended that I download, and really listen to Phish Summer 2010. I was very skeptical at 1st thinking the band was the going to be same as 2003/2004.

I was mistaken. Phish 2010 is by far one of the best tours since Phish 1997. The band is tight, the jams maybe short, but they sure pack a powerful punch. Moreover they are having more fun then ever, and I cannot wait to see what 2011 is going to bring.

Jayem 2010 was a great Phish year for me. Made it to 7 shows. My first Halloween, which was part of a perfect weekend in AC. Plus after years of using .net for all my Phish info I joined the boards and really like it here! After a few failed attempts to meet up with some of you I hope to make that happen in 2011! HAPPY NEW YEAR

bostonron 2010 was a great year for Phish. I was more then a little disappointed after '09, just wasn't what I was expecting...even after this Summer I thought they might have lost some of that magic that sucked me in over the past 14 years, with the exception of a few choice shows...

But after seeing four shows this Fall, I was hooked (pun intented) again. Manchester was a coming home of sorts, such a great show for me.

I'm really glad I jumped on the forum after so many years of using .net for setlists, stats, etc. It could go down as one of the best descions I've made in recent years. I got a chance to meet some of you, and you guys are amazing. Even people I haven't met yet, I still feel a bound with many of you, with couch tour, and just generally shooting the shit. This place really is a blessing for us phans.

@johnnyd, he said it best in Worcester. "This is it. We are the next generation of phish.net." I'm really taking that to heart and hoping to meet up with many of you again, and for the first time, this Summer. Here's to a wonderful year of music and memories...and of course Phish.

If they do a phestival, we should really organize some kind of Phish.net camp.

"The next generation of Phish.net." I like that A LOT!!!

And yeah. If there's a Phest (Dear God let there please be a Phest!), Camp .Net is on. There's already talk of RVs being rented.

@DrPeterVenkman has already indicated the need for a greater .net presence in the lots this summer as I mentioned in the OP. What we're going to need is organization so that meet-ups can happen in busy summer lots. It's going to take some ground work but I'm so down for it and so anxious to volunteer. I hope lots of you guys are too!

DrPeterVenkman It is my hope that WE can take this whole thing to "the next level". In one form or another I have been around this board for a really long time. NEVER before has the sense of community felt so strong to me. 2009 and 2010 saw a MASSIVE influx of new people actually USING the board and that influx saw a TON of brand new, unbridled enthusiasm, very refreshing and very welcome. I see all of this doing nothing but expanding to the 2011 shows.

To the ones I've met, it was certainly a pleasure, to the ones I haven't yet, I'm coming to your town or maybe you to mine, or maybe we will meet in the middle.

Gotta go, got some writing to do.

johnnyd Gotta agree. 9 shows with a huge variety of people. Summer run with all the people I've been hitting shows with for 15 years. Fall run with newer friends. AC with tight crew, and met a few .netters. And then put a bunch more faces with names on 12/28. All with the best soundtrack one could possibly imagine.

Here's to keeping it rolling in 2011...

757phan This is the thread i've been waiting to post on all day. Phish came into my life as a senior in high school. 2003 and 2004 I tried t see what I could, I'm still mad for not doing more shows back then. I just didn't have a car or cash. I made it the end, only to see the mess. 2009 grad school,my girl, and weddings ruled my life. We did the Hampton run and I was so broke for that as well. I said NO WAY in 2010! Hit more show then I ever did in my life. Gunning for many shows in 2011 and the phest for sure. I'll be there if I have to sell everything I own to do it (which I no way will have to thank god).

To the .net community. You changed my whole Phish life. I didn't really have tons of people to talk to about Phish. This community has provided me with that outlook. I have been hooked up with tons of merch, tunes, tickets , and some unforgettable times for being a member of this community we have. Between some new friends, this community, and Amy coming around 2010 was a blast. NYC and Charleston were amazing meeting with some .netters. I got ENGAGED on an island off of Charleston before the 10/16 Phish show for god's sake! Ann, Amy, Kristy, Bill, Chuck, Trevor, Mike, Evan and everyone else there made this past weekend a blast. On 1/1 section 330 became an official .net rage section/dance off. It was amazing! I can not wait for 2011. I love all you guys, keep posting. To the new people, I can not wait to meet you as well. To those of you who met me this year and saw my sick dance moves, look out. I'm keeping those eyes closed and working on some new ones for 2011 =) The .NET/PHISH festival must happen. It will if we wish it people To those of you who met Mike on tour @yoursongtoo. This guys is so legit it is amazing. Picked me up at the airport, split everything he said he would down the middle with us for costs, hooked us up in the posters line, and generally just became a great friend of mine. If your friends with him, you should consider yourself lucky. Thank again Mike for being the man.

RAGE ON IN 2011!!!!!
