Noob question of the day. What's an Antelope Greg? He's a guy who dropped out of high school in November of '94 to follow Phish full time and has been to every single show since minus a stint in jail. There is not a member of the Phish community that has more opinions about them and that is an understatement.
Correction he's been to all but 6 shows since Thanksgiving 94 besides that stint in jail, which he did to save one of our dear friends from going to jail. If this story is true he deserves less flack IMO. But yeah he's a genuine front row hog, at least a narcissist, possibly a sociopath, but won't bother you if he gets to have his front row center space (just left of Trey).
I've been seeing him at shows for years, was there in 2003 at Deer Creek when Trey made the shout out to him before his jail time, met him in AC, stayed at the same hotel as him in Worcester, we've spoken numerous times. He's totally approachable outside of shows...I just think constant drug use has permanently warped him.
Again, if you ever try to grab front row center...just give the man his space.

judging by personal experience on12/27/2010, I would concur....Turn it up, turn it on.G

He's not here to defend himself and I think we, as a community, shouldn't bash this guy. At least I won't.
He told me he doesn't come online anymore because people are too mean here.
The fact is, he has screamed at yelled and threatend both men and woman calling woman c***s, making them cry...anyone who touches him or gets in his space, het gets nasty. That's why he's become so infamous in the community. He used to tape off a large square front row center and explain to everyone around him not to cross the lines. He's not quite as aggressive anymore but he did ask me at least 10 times on 10/30/10 to give him more room....he had the space of 2-3 people, and I was as smooshed as can be...and he wanted more room.
BRD your attitude is the right one, but he just makes it too easy to talk about him and badmouth him. Despite this I've found myself defneding him because I sympathize with him.

I just say, but for the grace of icculous go I. I'm a real spastic dancer and maybe a bit fanatic, so I feel for him. My wife asked if I would do jail time for any of the band members and I have to say, YES i would. without a doubt, even though i've got kids and responsibilities, etc, etc.

I can dance wild myself...he gets teased for his dancing but that wouldn't happen if he was nicer to people, that's what started it all. Threatening strangers and woman especially, just so wrong.
His dance style is unique...he looks at Trey like he's trying to send voodoo vibes his way, makes strange intense sometimes very angry faces, and waves his arms like he's the conductor of an orchestra...like he's actually directing Phish.
There's so many stories surrounding him that you can't be sure what's a myth and what's real until you talk to he and his friends. Entertaining character.

If my math is correct he's seen over 600 shows. Hard not to be envious.
I was 100% with the people saying "dont hate" until i actually meet the guy. Front row at manchester. i entered the venue as the doors opened and made my way to the floor.
ive never see any fan be rude to other fans as a first reaction.
He kicks people on purpose to gain space. Its a GA floor not a seated and rowed floor. you dont have "your seat" you have the area your body takes up plus about 4 inches of a personal "bubble".
He doesn't care about anyone's show but his. that selfish and violent attitude doesn't belong at Phish shows. I don't care how many shows you've have seen. NOTHING MATTERS EXCEPT THE SHOW YOU ARE AT. doesn't matter if its your 1st, 10th, 100th or 1000th. Respect your phellow phans! sorry to rant but please feel free to correct me where I'm wrong.

Been seeing Greg at shows (rather, noticing him) since 96-ish. Never really had much of an issue with him until I saw him pulling the, "don't you know who I am act" a few times. Making "friends" with people and cutting in front of lines to get on the rail (ahem). I'm not cool with that. That, coupled with the hostility and trending towards physically dangerous equals not fun. You're just like every one of us dude. I wouldn't go so far as to call him a sociopath (a term that folks tend to throw around a bit much)...narcissistic tendencies, sure. Who doesn't have those?

Didn't Trey say getting arrested saved his life? If anything he should get more flack for being an enabler.
He's incredibly selfish and definetely a narcissist, he admitted this to me AC night 2 after I called him on it for messing with my girlfriend and I. BPD is a scary thing (is narcissim still classified under BPD?)....sociopath is tossed around too much I'm guilty of this. He'd have to literally not be capable of love and have 0 ability for remorse, and I think he loves Phish way too much for this accusation to be accurate.
Also I'm very fond of Applebees new england clam chowder. It's not the place you'd think would have that special heady chowder, but they do a great job.

He's got a lot of friends with some clout like him who are all pretty intense and they look out for each other. Friend told me if a few of us invaded his space and crowded him out we'd probably get a beat down in the parking lot.
All I could think was wtf? How does any of this come about at a Phish show?

That said, that video is effing hilarious.
Why do so many .netters sympathize with this moron?
Let's stop dedicating threads to this idiot.

This Aggression should not stand...man. I went to over 150 Grateful Dead shows and never, ever saw any hostility amoungst fans, inside the venue or in the "lot". I feel sorta bad for the younger generation of concert goers who have to experience this type of behavoir. We had our problems to be sure, but pervassive aggression towards one another was not one of them.
Exactly, it's unfortunate. It's because I experienced him in AC without having previously heard any of these stories that it was so shocking to me, and so interesting to hear all the stories after. I'd seen him before from years of occasional touring but I'd never heard what a raging psycho he can be. Kicking and hitting people, karate chops, screaming in their faces. So bizarre to occur at a Phish show of all places. It's not a freaking megadeath concert.
Thanks for posting that picture of him, I was too lazy to go to the other thread and find it then try and post it. But again to anyone yet to meet him, when and if you do...like I said earlier just let him have his space but don't let him bully you.

Also if anyone likes to play where's waldo....in that picture above you have Antelope Greg with his arm in the air, on the left...I forget the guys name in the middle but he's cool, nice guy...Dominic to his right, another good guy....then Ivy, Banjo, and myself are all in the picture as well.
I'm not proud of what happened. But it did. I hate fighting, but sometimes you gotta step up and protect yourself.

Aggression and hostility define Antelope Greg. Any time you combine tons of drugs and tons of people, there is potential for trouble.. And Dead shows were not immune. Deer Creek 1990...One of my friends bought fake tickets from a group of African Americans. These guys had a stack of tickets with blank backsides (this was before TM holograms and barcodes). My group surrounded the three guys and we explained the consequences of not returning my friends' money. When one guy put his hands on me, he got dropped. Money was returned...end of story. I saw plenty of fights on the Dead tour, between both men and women. I'm not proud of what happened. But it did. I hate fighting, but sometimes you gotta step up and protect yourself.

If I saw someone peg anyone in the band with a glowstick intentionally I might give them a shove or a slap on the forehead but taking on Greg and his crew is just unnecessary....would begin to make touring akward and less fun. If you want the rail beat him to it or let him have it.
He simply needs his ass kicked. I don't care who he did time for, how many shows he's seen, or where his "space" is. I'd love to see him put his hands on me or one of my friends. Why do so many .netters sympathize with this moron? Let's stop dedicating threads to this idiot. It's not simple, and this will not fix the problem. It will end with fans being kicked out of the venue, getting hurt, and enemies being made.

Yea I hear you. I was lucky enough to see most of my Dead shows before the 90's ..when that culture of violence and aggression became acceptable.

@JonBaker
The lawn idea would work perfectly if he was just there for the music, like so many have said before. But the fact is he's there to be as close to Trey as possible, to wave his arms like he's the conductor and he's in charge. I believe it's a narcissistic high for him and because of this he would be incapable of being so far back like we all are most of the time.
Ok I've spoken enough now about a guy I don't know that well, just trying to help you guys understand a bit and to help all of you who haven't been exposed to him yet understand that a confrontation with this guy would help nothing. I'm retiring from this post now.
And definetely never go into a Phish show with an agenda against another fan, no matter how many stories you've heard about him. It's an unhealthy vibe to take into a show.

I can't fucking believe this. Why do you continuously bow down to this guy? Have some self respect. I don't care how hard his life was. Join the club, life can be a bitch. He has no more right to any "space" than anyone else. If the band wants him there, so be it.
I would never go into any situation with an agenda. I have never started an altercation. I would never confront Greg or anyone connected with him. But I will respectfully defend myself, if necessary. Always have, always will. Luckily for him(and for me), I'm not a big fan of being on the rail. Sound and lights are not as good.
Someday he will fuck with the wrong person. Karma.
Yea I hear you. I was lucky enough to see most of my Dead shows before the 90's ..when that culture of violence and aggression became acceptable.Yeah..I hear you. All of mine were from 85-95. Times changed for sure.
I suddenly feel old.
Imagine if everyone was constantly dissecting your behavior at Phish shows!

As for you sarcastically calling me sassy, saying I bowed down to this guy, and have no self-respect...how was that necessary? Why are you so obsessed with low blows and fighting? Can I recommend you take that wife of yours to a DMB concert? There will likely be plenty of drunken teenagers that like to fight at those shows, it will provide you with a much better opportunity to take out your rage.
So, he calls girls c**** and physically/verbally harasses people. On 10/30 he asks you 10 times for more room, even though he has the room of 2-3 people and you're got no room. Just say "No, I need some space here too." Then he messes with you and your girl in AC and you "called him on it." Wow. Sassy. I can't fucking believe this. I never bowed down, I never moved over when he asked me to (I couldn't if I wanted to there was no room). I've also never witnessed him calling anyone c***s or kicking or hitting, and again....I knew NOTHING about him on 10/30 when I was next to him.

I'd love to "let the guy enjoy the show" if only he had that same attitude. i believe that's the main issue of discussion here.

^ He's correct. So many here are so focused on everything being positive and flowery and wonderful all the time that they tell people to grow up every time they don't like a topic, and try to force the forum to look and feel like they want.
This discussion, if it can be kept civil, seems quite necessary.
The fact that it's talked about so much proves how rare his behavior is and that's a very good thing.
