Slothberries I got the hdmi to miniport adapter from best buy for like 25 bucks. You don't have to get the apple one.

Just so you know, audio doesn't play through the adaptor. You're gonna need to run a separate audio cable or just listen from your MacBook. I've bought 2 of them and neither of them support audio.

JackStrawDan Me and a friend did it last week for Dicks N1. Don't worry about the price, go to Wal-Mart grab a HDMI cord and all you gotta do is keep the box and receipt and then return it the next day, or withing the next 90 days. Full cash refund and they don't even glance at the product, I could have put an ethernet cord in there and the lady would have given me the $32 back.

Also, remember what Slothberries said, you need good speakers.

Magilla94 Depends on which model of mac book pro, and I have one a couple years old, so your mileage may vary but mine has a DVI port.

I just got a DVI to HDMI adapter and plugged an HDMI cable into my tv but this only does video not audio. For the audio, I took an audio cable and went from the headphone jack on the macbook to an audio-in on my home theatre. Looked awesome and sounded great.

I do remember having to unplug/re-plug the audio cable a couple times to get it to work. Have phun!

Tsac77 I have a device that combines the DV out and the audio out into a box that connects to HDMI. The box was around $20 and then you need to buy an HDMI canoe for whatever price you can find one for.

where did you get this box? I have a MacBook too, and it has only a Mini-DVI output, so we have to use an Apple adaptor miniDVI to DVI and then a DVI to HDMI cable to TV for video- and regular RCA cable to earphone jack for audio, which is not quite synced. Joint HDMI audio/video option would be much better but I didn't think was possible on MacBook...

Yeah the two options are a mini display to Hdmi cable (which is one unit slowly going out though due to Hdmi suing the company that makes them) or the mini display to Hdmi adapter, then you need an extra Hdmi cable.

As for audio. It depends on when you bought your MacBook pro. If you bought it after last summer (2010) then audio and video with be exported through that Hdmi cable. However if it was bought early summer 2010 or before then you will need another cable for audio export.

yes, this is exactly right. Mine is an early 2010 model, and audio is not supported through the hdmi cable. I bought 2 adapters and pulled my hair out of my head before I figured this out

you could also go mini dvi to VGA. HDMI may be a better bet, but as far as I can tell with my eyes the VGA has the same video quality. My $350 laptop has HDMI... come on apple! Though I have a Macbook (work computer) we choose to use our cheapo laptop for the full digital connection. Noticeably better audio. Laptop-> HDMI-> TV-> Optical-> AV receiver-> :)

jackl There's a FAQ on Phish.net called "Streaming for Couch Tour" written last year when LivePhish started doing this by @CleverRuse which shows all the various connections and cables and has specific info for macs here.
