Zappa?
Zeppelin?
The Band?
James Brown - Love Power Peace
Sly & the Family Stone - Stand!
Stevie Wonder - Songs in the Key of Life, Innervisions
I do like the funk idea but maybe P-funk?
How about Cream or Derek and Dominoes or Slowhand? Kinda surprised Trey hasn't nodded to Clapton more.
anyone care to list the bands they have done over the years? All I know is Stones and Little Feat.
Cinci. Either Prince: Purple Rain or Clash: London Calling (with horns on the songs that need them).I have always hoped for London Calling, nice pick
The Beatles
Little Feat
Pink Floyd
Rolling Stones
Talking Heads
The Who
Velvet Underground

Odessey and Oracle
Odessey and OracleI'm assuming that you mean The Zombies, right? If so, that's one of the more interesting suggestions yet.
Anybody think in the years to come, if there ever is a Halloween show again, that they'll have the phans choose again. And if so, what would your choices be? Zappa? Zeppelin? The Band? When did the fans get to choose?

but any dead album
and since it somewhat needs two guitars.
maybe john k or bobby on the other geetar.
?
I would love for a Genesis album to be on the list but seeing as how they almost did that, I'm not sure they'd ever consider it again. But who cares?!?! I'm putting them on my list anyways (with a few others):
The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway - Genesis
Selling England By the Pound - Genesis
Tales from Topographic Oceans - Yes
Close to the Edge - Yes
2112 - Rush
Hemispheres - Rush
I'm such a dork.
Trey was talking about early metallica in the sbix interview I believe
King Crimson would be sweet
Storage Jam kind of reminds me of 90s Tool which would be quite the shock
Some 90s grunge would be fun
some chuck berryish or even jazz could be cool
I hope they choose and throw everyone a HUGE curve

Trey always wanted to play My Bloody Valentine's "Loveless" album.
They should do it. 40 minutes of sonic goodness.

All of those sound like viable options and were in the running as possibilities up to Festival 8.
I also liked the previous suggestion of Sabbath... nice thinking.
Hmmm...I would poop myself if any of these are ever done!

Page would have his work cut out for him on Genesis, because Tony Banks is a monster!!! (Fish would also have to work his ass off, cause Phil Collins was no slouch either)
Ween - Chocolate and Cheese
Michael Jackson - Thriller
Toss up for me, totally different vibes, but each would be so sick!

So the general consensus is no GD costumes ever? While I agree that it wouldn't be the most original thing they could do, I honestly would enjoy the shit out of it. The boys can obviously handle their work from a musical point of view and from what i've heard Trey sing I think he (and the rest of the band) could do the vocals justice. I understand why people would think it's lame, and I doubt the old dead heads would take kindly to it whist tearing the performances apart for every reason they could think of. I have no problem admitting I would f***ing love every second of it, just once.I agree. I would f***ing love it. If they did Anthem, Workinman's, Europe 72', Blues for Allah, From Mars, Terrapin, ect. would all be sick.

Think about it man. Halloween. Black Sabbath. Its made for it. F*CKING Godfathers of metal. Dark ass halloween show. Dark ass jams. It could swing moods so fast.
@ivy_light said:So true. I think they'd almost have to court the original vocalists for Genesis and Rush like they apparently did with Peter Gabriel since both Gabriel and Geddy Lee have such distinctive voices. They could probably handle the Yes vocals since Jon Anderson's and Benoit David's voice aren't really all that unique IMO.Hmmm...I would poop myself if any of these are ever done!

It would be awesome to see any one of these. Any of those albums, with the possible exception of those by Rush, would require additional musicians: flutes, oboes, maybe strings. I think it would be absolutely awesome if Trey and Mike could play some of those dueling acoustic guitar arrangements in some of those songs. I could talk about Genesis for ever!
I think Kuroda would have a fun time with Genesis and Yes particularly. Especially Genesis. They're shows were HUGE productions!
Sigh...I'm dreaming of Page ripping through the intro to Firth of Fifth!
I would love to see them do The Band's self-titled album, or their live one, Rock of Ages. For a more modern album, I think Los Lobos' Kiko would be pretty great.

Sabbath would be cool, but I think it would get old by the 4th song. The Ideal is an album that a lot of "old heads", using the terms loosely there, can remember jamming to, and one that a lot of younger people have never really heard in its entirety. So I guess sabbath would fit, but there is a time and a place for headbanging, and an entire set of phish is not that place.
Deodato's Prelude or Deodato 2 would be my pick. They would only really need more percussion. Horns/ flutes would be nice but it can be done without them (2001). That's the beauty of Phish.
@mgh2001 said:See it would be awesome to have a GD halloween, but covering an album of theirs would be lame and possibly too long (europe 72). I think a mock set or kinda what dark star does would be the best outcome for a dead costume. Maybe a whole show of dead with a Phish costume? probably the most unrealistic. Phish is definitely tired of the the comparison, but honestly I don't know why. Maybe the band thinks nodding more to the dead will give the critics proof that "all they do is play music like the dead". They could totally do a lot of the songs more justice than Bobby talking through them, merely going through the motions just to pay the bills. So the general consensus is no GD costumes ever? Who gives a f*** about ¨heads.¨
As far as old, I'd disagree with you on that. Paranoid is a mind altering album. Exposed to new people through Phish. Get a nasty harmonica player to join in for intense shit. Not really head banging metal. Its more akin to a dark Carini jam.
