I personally thought last season was terrible, but I hate julia stiles, and think she can't act to save her life.
This season opener was ok I'm interested in how the religious killing plot of the season will play out.
:::they all die:::
:::thrown off a boat:::
Watched the premiere last night, won't spoil anything for anyone, but it was a damn good start!
was that Tom Hanks kid? im very curious about him and his weird friend
yep, that was colin hanks...not sure what their deal is quite yet
I am curious how this season and the "villainous" characters develop.
Line forms behind Morgan Freeman and Nicholas Cage.
It is a great show. I am also interested to see how the Christianity theme plays out...I honestly thought they overplayed the religious themes, a little subtlety would be nice.exactly. i hated how it was the overlying theme. it nearly ruined the episode for me. i guess they were just trying to make it accessible to get more viewers for this season

New episode was good I'll keep watching this season
Season 1,2, and 4 are my favorites. 1 & 2 because of Doakes, and Lithgow was great in 4.
3 and 5 were not so enjoyable for me, seemed like Dexter did things out of character and the "bad guys" weren't all that interesting to me, especially season 5, I really hope it rebounds this season
There are some characters that have annoyed me throughout the series like Lila, Quinn, LaGuerta but overall its been solid
@karmapolice you are right on. 1 & 2 are great because of Doakes (Dexter has an actual protagonist that is a threat to his way of life) 4 is great because of Lithgow, but the end of that was still similar to Dexter's other villains - He thinks he's connecting with someone who is also carrying a 'Dark Passenger', but in the end they can't 'control' it the way he does and he has to finish them off. The one chance Dexter had to truly connect with his family for the first time was the finale of season 5, and they totally blew that. (Typical of network execs to ruin a shows creative flow, because they see $$$)
This show has kept my interest I think just because serial killers will always be an interesting character study. But as far as how the show is written, the depth of the majority of the characters, and the insufferable voice overs, this show really isn't that good. And after the shit they pulled at the end of last season, I was really ready to throw in the towel. But as I said Colin Hanks and Edward James Olmos appear to be pretty intriguing characters that I think I need to stick around for.
Sorry for this heinous rant, Dexter makes me feel a lot of things simultaneously and sometimes I need to get it all out.
Oh, and I liked Julia Stiles. I thought the relationship with her and Dexter was last season's only saving grace.
Regardless of all of these complaints, I will still watch it, because I am a sheep.
I think the things that diluted season 3 and 5 were extremely dull, static co-stars and lazy writing.
Julia Stiles actually won a damn Emmy or something for last year, and honestly, I think it should have been a Razzy for worst actress in a TV show.
The dude from season 3 (I think his name's Miguel) does a fine job acting his part, but the problem was that the part was bland. Miguel and Lumen both were symbols of Dexter's inability to remain close with other people. It embodies his struggle to find a personal niche. While this is inevitable as a writer, I think they did a really poor job at it. The writing is so balls-to-the-wall and creative in seasons 1,2, and 4. These seasons were genuinely exciting because the struggles between Dexter and his villains were the main story lines. When the main story line is arguably about Dexter trying to connect to someone like Miguel or Lumen, the writers spend less time making the villains memorable. I don't even remember the villain in season 3. I'm not saying that Dexter's attempt to find humanity in himself isn't a bad plot - it's pretty obvious this had to happen in a show about a sociopath - , but it should not be the central story line. One example of the writers doing a good job with this theme of the show is the character of Rita. This relationship was intriguing as opposed to the Lumen - Dexter combo seeming so forced. Right now the writers are doing the same thing just in a different theme. The season 6 premiere made it obvious they were not going for subtlety or whimsicality. They have already blown the spiritual theme for me.
My verdict: This show was fantastic for seasons 1, 2, and 4. Unfortunately seasons 3 and 5 were dull and uneventful albeit with good potential. Hopefully season 6 will be a good finale, but I don't see why I should think so after watching the premiere.
I really hope this Colin Hanks story line goes somewhere, the previews for the season made it look somewhat entertaining, but thats a preview's job. I just hope it doesn't start with potential and fizzle out at the end. Oh and that whole prom king thing really annoyed me. My question was if that girl was murdered in VA and only Dexter noticed the blood on her fingernails, how did he get a sample of the blood under her dead body's fingernails to compare to his prom king's sample?
Don't get me wrong. I DVR that shit. I'm just saying, we're all pretty sick people for rooting the guy on.
Edward James Olmos is a figment of Colin Hanks' imagination, much like Harry is to Dexter.
I liked Brother Sam a lot
Didn't see the point of the last episode really other than to fill time with the whole Trinity's family plot.
I thought the point of Sunday was that Trinity's son could be a murderer and Dexter can't save his son. I think they bombed horribly with that potentially great episode.
It seems like there are two different writers/creative people behind the show that don't communicate with each other well. This season is just all over the place.

Dexter??? I thought you making reference to once football great MR. D, Dexter Manley! The thought of him on a serious coke bender pouring the sand from the hallway ashtray in front of is door & later checking for footprints is some kinda paranoia.
Good episode tonight. I won't spoil what happened for those that have not seen it yet.Shit just got real.
@Karmapolice for the win
i still enjoyed the show but i saw that "twist" from a mile away
i still enjoyed the show but i saw that "twist" from a mile awayYeah I had my suspicions early on, but it was still exciting to watch.
it was obvious how no other characters interacted with Gellar
I'm very disapointed in Dexter though, he has gotten far too sloppy lately...if Gellar used that trap door how did he close it then move a heavy table on top of it?...dumbass
My bold prediction now is Deb will bang Dexter in the season(series?) finale
Just started watching this a week or so ago and just finished up Season 4... Yeah I don't do much... haha. Hoping to finish the series before the season finale on Sunday.
Anyone else think the computer nerd guy is up to something now. He mailed Dexter that arm from the Ice Truck Killer, and he made a game about being a serial killer. My thoughts are he either knows Dexter is a serial killer or is a serial killer himself, possibly working with Travis though I can't back that on anything other than a gut feeling. It was odd when he started dating his babysitter, and cancelled plans for a concert with her when Dexter dissed him. Now the previews show Harrison getting kidnapped by Travis. Wouldn't be hard to distract your girlfriend while shes at work so your buddy can kidnap Dexter's son. Also Dexter is totally sloppy anymore, dumbass should have gone to the ER.
Sorry for the rant but I love this show and could go on about it forever
My guess is, unfortuneately, they are going to end the season with some lame ending to ddk and lead up the next season with the intern and the ice truck killer.
still a few more seasons left in this killer show though (no pun intended)
Also I forgot to mention
i hate Laguerta. Cannot stand her character, and just when I thought they were writing her off they go and promote the bitch again. Dexter should break his code and off that psycho.
Interesting i like the idea of them setting the intern up as the killer for next season, that hadn't croseed my mind.agreed. i cant stand laguerta. i just finished watching the episode and wanted more than anything to see deb call her a low-life C@#T. lol. i was like "do it....call her a C@#T!!"
