so some people were talking and throwing around the idea of occupying MSG the night of the 30th and not leaving after the show. In a unified demonstration against the scalpers and the fact that hardly any fans got tickets because of them we are going to set up camp inside MSG after the show on the 30th and not leave until after the show on the 31st. If we all do it they can't arrest us all and maybe we can make a difference for some of our friends who got shut out!

Those that stay will be forcibly removed by the cops, a mess will be made & Phish/phans will be portrayed negatively in the media. In theory it's a cool idea though.

There are 3 things I learned from going to NYE last year at MSG:1.) Bring extra caps for water bottles. The awesome staff at MSG won't let you have the caps (unless you slip them extra cash for their pockets)
2.) Bring in as much alcohol as you can fit in your coat/pockets/purse. They didn't search my purse or body at the door AT ALL (same goes for my guy friends, not that they had purses).
3.) ---The only one relevant to this thread---NYC cops do NOT f*** around. Especially on NYE. They will maintain order at all costs.

i hear that.... first off its not the scalpers you need to target... its the ticket master /ticket supplier...they are the ones that provide the scalpers with blocks of tickets...
anyways, if you think you cant be arrested then think again, you need to obtain a permit in NYC to hold a demonstration and MSG is privet property so they will kick your butts out and blacklist you from the NYE show on the 31st.
If you are there and have tickets then your just jepordizing your good time.
Not to mention the scar on the Phish community and the headlines of Phish fans being locked up for being drugged up hippies or what ever spin the NYTimes will put on the story...

How does that send a message to the scalpers? It just f***s up everyone's shit for the next night.And I don't think its fair to say that "hardly any" fans got seats for 12/31. I'd bet at least half, probably 3/4 of the seats went directly to the fans that will use them, at cost.

@piper237youre heart is in the right place. i think. but you dont wanna spend the weekend at rikers. especially new years eve. i imagine "watching the ball drop" takes on a whole new meaning in that hell hole.
also, to everyone complaining (justifiably) about scalpers....you'll have your chance to vent outside MSG. there will be plenty of real life scalpers in the flesh ripping people off left and right. though again, i really dont advise forcing a confrontation with those people.

Terrible idea- makes phans look bad and would cause huge hassles for the band and management, but not do a thing to stop scalpers.
Be glad you are going to the shows at all! Lots of us aren't catching anything on this run & just hoping for a freakin' webcast...

I'll wager that there will be somewhere around 20,000 phish fans at MSG every night that weekend. If I walk in and see 16000 empty seats and a bunch of scalpers making it rain spare tickets, I'll kiss your bare-ass.

I believe this would do no more than cause the show on the 31st to be cancelled or maybe just half empty due to all of the fans in jail. Oh and what does this have to do with ticket scalping?

The difference between occupying MSG and Zucotti park is that it is legal to protest in a public park. MSG officials and NYPD will have you rushed out of there so fast it wouldn't even be funny. It could possibly jeopardize the 12/31 show also and just make Phish phans looks bad in the media. I will not be occupying MSG. Getting tear gassed sucks and the whole place would be filled with it.

It also kinda uses an important and real issue and lumps it with our "issues" about not getting to see Phish. I'm all for a mass something somewhere involving Phish and fans and taking back the public commons but I'm not sure this is the way.

its not unheard of for a band to throw a free concert in central park during the summer. i mean, phish has never done it, but it could happen, ya never know.

I've fantasized about trying to stow-away for GD runs back in my youth. I've perhaps even openly theorized during set break how one could possibly dodge the cleaning crews and such (it's set break, the mind wonders). Never seen anyone actually try it. Has anybody pulled this off? That would be pretty epic if 1 person managed it.Openly doing it in defiance or as a group is unlikely to turn out well.

Easily the worst idea I have seen posted here. Everyone who has been to shows at MSG talks about how cool the MSG crew is with fans. Phish and their fans have clearly earned a great reputation. fans being chill over the years has lead to relaxed security and an over all great time for all.If you are that against scalpers and don't mind getting arrested I have a great idea. When you see scalpers out side the venue get a crowd around them and punch him in the face! Good luck with that! Don't ruin everyone elses time
