7/2/11 Scents and Subtle Sounds

callmethesloth Permalink
callmethesloth Wow, when they dropped into that (especially the intro) I really thought that was the perfect song for the moment. The sun had just set, and when they said "if you would stop and notice that we number everyday, and allow the many moments left uncounted slip away. You don't have to count them, just enjoy them one by one" THAT WAS BLISS! I wish I could go back there, relive that beautiful moment. Also, that song is so underplayed, but yet again that just makes when they actually do play it that much more special. Anyone else have a similar experience when they dropped into that there?

i was really excited. i think my response was something along the lines of "nnnnnnooooooooo way!?" with a stupid smile, mainly because they hit us up with the intro.

that weekend was a blast and i often look back on it and just sit and smile. good people, good weather, good times all around.

johnnyd Totally.

I had actually headed back to my camp early in that set and was there when that happened. (My camp actually had a view of the stage and near perfect sound.) A few of us were getting the grill ready and prepping food for a 'tween set meal. I couldn't believe it when they started playing the intro. Totally unexpected. Pure bliss. Definitely one of many peak experiences that weekend.

Edit: @MySoula - so I've mentioned this before? : )

haha, we had shared a few posts one day how we got pretty excited that they dropped the intro on us. i think we started the discussion because whenever people get ruffled about how many shows they've/or someone else has attended i usually drop the "you don't have to count them, just enjoy them one by one" line.

Exactly, that line was just perfect man. I love those lyrics, almost as much as I love Pebbles and Marbles' lyrics.

Fishman side, on the fenceline next to the track. Pretty much even/slightly in front of the Pinball Lounge/Ball Square. Probably about 100 yards from the famed/infamous tunnel into Hawaii, in the direction of the stage.

I can say with certainty after Sunday set 1 that there is nothing like having the Phish from VT play at your backyard bbq.

tripsforjoeg I remember my crew all looking around wondering wtf song it was. I'm like "scents and subtle sounds!!!" Love that intro. I was blissful as well. When I re-listen to it now, it seems that all I hear are the flubs. Makes me laugh. I don't know. It was one of my favorite memories of sbix.

cupuscakus Nice. We were in our Family/Friends tent on Page side next to track. These two hot chicks in bikinis hopped the fence and came running across the track into the crowd.
I was hoping they were with you :)

This was one of my highlights on the weekend. It was only the 2nd time they had played it in 3.0 to that point, and the first time they'd included the intro. The more I listen, the more I love it. We saw it again during the S show, and while I don't think it will make steady rotation, I believe we'll see it more than the once a year average it's held so far in 3.0.

Also as we know from 2.0, this song has great type 2 potential at the back end (did I use that term properly?). Easy song to jam out and evolve into anything.

taste4fee i was with some netters, good friends now, and i turned around to @757phan and just shouted it "IT'S SASS!!!!" a great, great moment for sure, i truly love that song and they rocked it out. I was page side, pretty close up and was getting down, that entire weekend was amazing.

I caught the version at the S show too, and I gotta say both versions we caught this year were greatly placed.

Aside from Forbin, which I'd never had, this was the highlight of the run for me.

I hope Phish decides to turn this back into a very leangthy jam vehicle like they were doing in 2.0.

Heaven at a Phish show for me would be one set, one song. 1 hour 20 minute Scents and Subtle Sounds.

buffalo_voice That was one major peak no question, and my first time hearing that song! I was in love with it from the get go, but had to ask one of my crew what it was.

Now I am chasing that song, and, as ever, Tela among a handful that always take me "there".

That festival was pure bliss.

How I hope that they go back to Watkins next year...Damn!! That would be excellence!!
