MiguelSanchez It's almost spring training time people! After spending the fall/winter watching the train wreck that is my beloved colts, I'm trying to build up some optimism for my twins this summer, even though we made no major moves and the tigers got prince fielder. Well, hopefully the injury gods shine on us and we can get back to the play offs. If that happens, I ask that someone else please take care of the Yankees.

Who's your team and why are you going to suck or win it all? Cubs fans, don't even bother trying to say you're going to win. We all know...

Chilly I'm a die hard Yankees fan. We are capable of winning it all, it's a matter of injuries and people playing to their talent levels. Unlike most teams, especially in our division, we actually improved our team this year, for basically less money.

I really like the direction the yanks have gone in the last three years. Our farm system is loaded with prospects, especially in pitching and catching, and continues to produce both players for us and trade fodder. I believe over the last few years we have been cutting back a little each time.

I'll be at the stadium 4/13 for opening day, if any .netters are planning on going to the home opener, lets tailgate it up!

Needless to say: I'm excited about this season. It's my favorite sport and my second home. As for the upcoming season, stoked on Thome's return even if it just for few months or year. I think we are in the best position to do something this year in October than the past two.

@Chilly I think Ibanez was a good signing for you guys. He's coming back home and in the position to kill the ball as a DH for one more year.

Jayem Red Sox fan here. I am not your sterotypically Sox fan. I find that most Sox fans annoy me almost as much as yankees fans. When I was growing up it seemed that Sox fans were passionate and really knew the game. Now it seems to be a bunch of chuckle heads that seem to care more about hating the Yankees than what actually goes on with the Sox.

Should be an interesting year for the Sox. I like Bobby V, not sure how he will fit with the team but to be honest I never loved Francona and yes I said that before he was gone to. I'm not sad to see Papelbon go, I loved the guy his first few years but that shit went to his head. I hope he gets rocked in Philly. The league needs more guys like Adrian Gonzalez. Great players that carry themselves well.

I would love to be at opening day. Fenway turns 100 years old. Should be a great day. Just not sure I can afford it. Fenway is not cheap.

Fun facts: The first game ever at Fenway was played on 4/20/1912 . Dead center is 420 feet. The giant wall and mascot are called The Green Monster.

That said, I'll be at opening day this year again. I just really hope that it's warmer than last year. It was 30 something degrees and raining, couldn't feel my hands by the 8th.

Pitchers and catchers reporting gets me almost as excited as tour announcments. One thing that bothers me about this year is that Manny only has to serve a 50 game suspension. For a 2nd PED violation you are supposed to receive 100 games and to avert this he simply retired last year. Then MLB is going to reinstate him and only make him serve half of that. B.S.!

Red Sox: Should be interesting with Bobby V. Personally, I loved francona and i feel he was the scapegoat for last season's collapse. With that being said, I am very excited for the new year, glad papelbon is gone. Need Carl Crawford to be his old self, and will be interesting to see how Bard does as a starter.

Rockies: The rotation is very young and will be a hit or miss this season. De la Rosa is back and is joined by chacin, pomerantz/white who they got for ubaldo, jeremy guthrie. I like the casey blake and ramon hernandez additions and they are upgrades over ianetta and stewart easily. I love the cuddyer pickup, he could hit 30hr in coors .

Finally, I think the sox will take the AL wildcard, and the Rockies will be above 500 but not make the playoffs.

Damn, this thread has gotten me amped for the season.

yeah big Sox fan here is well...i agree with the watering down of Sox fans, how at one point we were the most intelligent of sports fans, now falling to the level of Phillies fans/Yanks fans...
Case in point...
went to Phillies/Sox maybe 09 forget the year great seats, first row along first base dugout...and I tried to talk shop to a Phillies fan for a few minutes just about the Phillies...baseball in general...realized he didn't want to talk and dude just begins to get up in my face when I could really give two shits...beautiful day..two great teams just wanted to enjoy the game...@ Yankee Stadium April 04 Sox up maybe 11-5 last of a few innings..we litterally had 15 fans ejected for throwing beers hot dogs at us...they stationed about 4 Security guards to make sure my friends and I didn't get killed...the worst was when One guy pulled his lil' slugger out at us and told us to suck it...funny thing is from pitch one my friends and I made a vow that we wouldn't say anything anti-yankee since we were in New York...only be pro Red Sox...Sox hit bout 5 home runs that game so we had a lot to root for...
Every year I put together a preseason prediction for totals...though I'm usually wrong...hopefully the lineup looks like this
1. Elllsbury
2. Pedroria
3. Gonzo
4. Youk
5. Crawford
6. Ortiz
7. Salty
8. (random right fielder)
9. Iglesias

Starting Pitching
1. Lester
2. Buchoultz
3. Beckett
4. Bard
5. Ray Oswalt (pick him up sometime round June)

think we need Acevez, our MVP from last year in the bullpen as a 7th/8th inning guy...of course things will change with injuries..I was bummed to hear Joel Madden sign an extension with the rays since I was hopping Valentine would just be a bridge manager..hopind Dice-K can come back in July and maybe help out in the bullpen or be a legit fill in starter...the surgery should be good for him...

I think its gonna be interesting this year, if crawford gets healthy and can return to his former self that lineup is gonna be hot! I liked getting pineda and kuroda but felt a sharp pang in my chest when we gave up montario, i really liked that kid! I thought the Burnett deal was stupid! Y pay 2/3 of salary to just to get 2 pichters that will never make the bigs? This guy was a big help in that championship and could still be that guy if given the proper help.

I am a die hard Brewers fan and to be honest if the baby bears win 75 games this year that would be impressive with what they have. Granted the Central is slightly worse this year then last but still I just don't see the cubs even winning that many games. While I do hate the Cubs I am worried about what they will look like in 3-4 years because you actually have a GM who won't sign Milton Bradley to a 3 year 30 million dollar deal.

The Reds should be pretty decent this year. However, the biggest hurdle they need to get over is Dusty Baker. That guy can not manage his way out of a bag. The best thing the Reds could do in my opinion is dump Dusty.

ithacapete As you can tell from my above posts I am a Brewers fan. With us losing Prince, the Cards losing Pujols and LaRussa I believe the Brewers are the team to beat in the NL central(not by a whole lot though) I think whoever wins the central this year is only going to have about 87 wins. Here is the way I see the NL central shaking down. Brewers Cards Reds and Pirates are really the only contenders in this division with the pirates being the under dog. I don't see the Reds as being a serious issue even if they have made upgrades. With Baker as manager he will hold them back and wear out his pitchers. The Cards and the Pirates are the really the unknowns in the division. With the cards having new manager for the first time since 96 its going to be interesting to see how they shake out. As much as I hate the guy, Tony made OK teams good, and good teams great. The Pirates are going to be a constant thorn in everyone's side. If they can keep their heads about them and play consistent and not fall apart like they did the past year they have a glimmer of a hope at the division. The Cubs and Stros are just a joke at this point both teams are rebuilding so they are pretty much non issues. While it is not the sexiest division in baseball it is pretty evenly matched division which to me makes it a little bit more exciting. I can see the number one spot changing hands a quite a few times throughout the year.

I like how the nationals are not allowing anyone outside of a certain area buy tickets when they play the Phillies until a certain date. Its not like Phillies fans quick buy out the tickets before the nationals fans can get them....the problem is no one buys national tickets, so basically they are delaying the inevitable.

Reds look good this year.

I totally agree with you. The pirates have been so bad for so long and now they have a team that is decent. The central is a mixed bag of uncertainty this year. If the Pirates can play the way they did for the first third/half of last season they will upset tons of teams. Their team reminds me of the 05-07 brewers young talent that is on the verge. If the brewers don't win the central I would rather see the Pirates win it then the reds or cards.

ithacapete Can someone please tell me how the Reds are so much better this year? They signed Latos. Won 9 games last year. cinci won 79 games. Most of their pitchers only won 9 games last year. Brewers pitching staff is basically intact and they won well over 90. I dont get where people are saying the reds are so much better this year.

Chilly Like I said before, die hard Yanks fan. 100% with you @Jayem.

@forbin1 Bah, f*** Burnett. We had to eat a bit of money, but it was worth them taking on the 13 million or so they did. I gave him the benefit of the doubt for a couple seasons, but aside from that one start in the post season in 2009, he has been completely inadequate. We kept him in their for longer than most other pitchers get or should deserve, solely because of how much money we paid him. He wasn't TERRIBLE, but his numbers are easily replaceable by plenty of arms that cost less and aren't head cases. Not to mention instead of shining and coming through in the big games, he faltered and blew it time after time. He helped us win a championship, so it was worth the money in the long run, but he was wasted space stuck in limbo, and dumping him to the Pirates was the best option they had.

ps...im glad burnett is gone. he only pitched well in his first year here, and even THAT was an up and down season for him.

look, he is who he is. a pitcher with great stuff that struggles with location from time to time. when hes on, hes unhittable. but when hes off, which is more often than not, then he walks the ballpark and cant get anyone out. we knew about his inconsistencies when we signed him 3 years ago. i say good riddance. i welcome the young guns from seattle and LA.
