That's what we have so far, the second day is the best choice as everyone has settled in and the RUSH-RUSH of day one is out of the way, didn't want to do day three as people would be pretty spent.
Still leaves us with questions though:
Where?
BAR DOWNTOWN:
PROS: Easily definable location, no problem right there drinking.
CONS: Age restrictions, not all that close to the venue, potential to be crowded, bars burn holes in pockets.
ONE OF THE LOTS:
PROS: All inclusive, easily accessible to all and age doesn't matter.
CONS: Tough to determine a base as we wouldn't know straight away just WHERE we were landing. Potentially tough to set a LARGE BASE.
RENTING A PAVILION:
PROS: Covered location. Potential grill access. Easily defined location, some are close to the lots.
CONS: Beer issues. Have to pay to enter the park, would have to be the PERFECT location, security checks to enter the park proper.
SO, we need suggestions and ideas. We also wanted to get an idea of who would have interest in attending as this has the potential to go official and there would be handouts to design/create.
Ummm.....HELP!
In general, though, I would say lot> pavilion >bar.
Never been to SPAC so I'll defer on the choice of location to those with a better understanding of the place. I would be interested in attending and could help out for other preparations that need to be taken care of.I totally agree, being from the south I love being able to rely on northern knowledge of there own terrain and try to repay the favor when ya'll head down this way. Never been to SPAC and going it alone most of this tour so I would say "lot" is the best option to work towards now, its where we are all headed anyway...
In general, though, I would say lot> pavilion > bar.
A bar would be a pain in the ass unless we do it really early. Because its definitely a drive to the venue with undetermined traffic. Plus the $$$ might be an issue for some. And I dont know all the places, but I'd think downtown saratoga would be all jammed up on a summer saturday even without 20,000 extra heads.
Lot is not a bad option, but would take more effort to set up and get a base camp going, then let everyone know where that is.
If we can get a pavilion though, that is an easy point to identify. IIRC, the cost to get into the park is $10 per car, so its a bit, but hopefully not too much of a burden. But it would be a sure spot to set up camp for the day, have grills (either on site or bring some), plenty of space, etc. But @DrPeterVenkman is right, we'd have to get the right one. There are two pavilions (that I know of) that are very close to the lots and venue. The rest are so isolated that I'd consider that a dealbreaker.
Check out the maps below.

Two years ago I'm pretty sure I was at Hathorn, which was like a 2 minute walk to the back of the grass lot. It was gorgeous - tons of space, nice grass under huge pines. There were like 6 different crews of 20+ people spread out, with tons of room to spare. And I've definitely skated the Orenda lot, and hung out in that pavilion too. I think either of those would be good. Plus if people wanted to swing by for just a part of the day, it would be easy because they are close to the main lots.
The obvious drawback is we'd most likely have to be stealth with the beverages. But I think we can all go ninja like that. It may also be possible (if unlikely) to procure an alcohol permit for a pavilion for the day.)
Anyway, once we get some talks going about "where" we can dial in more fun stuff such as food, t-shirts, a poster, maybe fundraising idea for the MBF, the w00k danceoff that was supposed to go down 2 yrs ago, whether togas are optional or required...all kinds of stuff.
I'd say the best place would be maybe the shakedown side of the footbridge. It's always crowded. But there's not a lot of distinct landmarks at SPAC. Somewhere in that lot though. Or, the corner of the lot opposite of where I just described. Somewhere in the big footbridge lot with shakedown though. I want to say it's the "West Lot" or something. The one that is free to park in.The lot with shakedown is west lot.
Does a meetup typically include a canopy, coolers, food... a base? There is no "usually" or roadmap or gameplan. Its what we make of it. Thus this thread.
: )
I am totally open to persuasion and ideas, but my first instinct is to try to get a pavilion spot in the park.I'm leaning more towards the pavilion idea every time I think about it. It adds a spit shine to things and decreases the "dudes just milling about" factor.

I'm striking out finding out how to book a pavilion, restrictions during shows, rules, etc...
My thoughts are to keep it within easy vicinity of the 2 main lots on Route 50; I figure thats where most people will be parked. Certainly too early to rule anything out though.
Id kick money toward a shelter if necessary, but kinda prefer to just pop in say hey move around etc - lot might be easierThis is good to know. We are also trying to gauge a level of interest too.
If we know like 50 or 100 or more people definitely want to come and hang out for a good part of the day, that leads to one set of plans. If we get like 25 "Maybe I'll swing by"-type responses, that's a different event all together.
"Thats a different event"
It is way early. Even if we can't get the pavilion we want I don't think the lot would be soooo bad. Communicating the location wouldn't be hard. Everyone has cell phones. Some people spend the whole show fiddling with them. Others spend hours complaining about those people fiddling with their phones online. This is true. Once we have a spot we could just post it in a thread. But to get a big spot we'd need to coordinate a lot of cars rolling in together, which could get tricky.
Its tricky
to get in line

at the same time
its tricky.
I'd kick in a few bones for the pav if that makes your analysis any easier.
Tricky will now be in my head all afternoon. NTTAWWT.
Word. I think @DrPeterVenkman has some contact info already, but its so early in the year, no one on staff seems to give a fffffuuuuuccckkkkkkk just yet. They were trying to point us towards Ferndale, but looking at the maps, I think that would be a deal-breaker. It seems to be really out of the way.Funny thing about the discussion with Al was he tried to discourage me (heightened security, barricades, entry fees) and still sell me all at once. I think my next conversation with him will be based on "hey, this is a GREAT group of people, lighten up Francis you needn't be worried."

@Fees_Nipple - how does that work for setting up shop, esp. if it turns out to be a lot of people? Is there enough room? Can we trek coolers and grills and whatnot down there? We had about 100 people for NYE, I'd think this could be a similar or bigger crowd.
@mfhgreyboy - i hear ya on the "all is not lost." Whatever our best option ends up being, we will rock it. But I'm just hoping the "best option" is something better than me popping the hatchback, firing up the grill, and blaring drum and bass at you hippies all afternoon. : )
@Bamajama - I believe the idea originally developed for the summer tour closer in '09. It may have resurfaced since. There are grills down there. As for coolers if you're string enough yes. If they are on wheels even better. The path from the front of the venue down into Saratoga springs state park is paved. It's a state park there is plenty of room. Print signs for .net meet up with an arrow. I think this option is a good one. Just saying...

Gotta check this spot out, sounds like there is potential.
Can you point out or describe where it is on the map? And it sounds like we could park in the free lots and then go there?
Duly noted, @Fees_Nipple. On both.I'm intrigued as well, I'm fairly certain I know the @Tela500 is talking about, but I need a memory refresh. I recall it being a nice BIG grassy spot tucked away yes, but super accessible and maybe perfect.

Can you point out or describe where it is on the map?i.e. Show me on the doll where we can rock the hell out...
Duly noted, @Fees_Nipple. On both.Exactly. Let me try and find a map of the park/venue and I'll let you know.

If everyone knew there way down into the park by the springs now that would be a sweet meet up spot. Just take a left before the front gate and it brings you right down to the park and springs. Anybody else know where I'm talking about?
Do you mean take a left if exiting the front gate??
I know, if looking at the front gate, you can follow the walkway to the right and that will eventually bring you out into a field and one part of the park (by one of the pools, I believe). Also, when again looking at the front gate going to the right, you hop the little concrete wall, through a small bit of woods and then down a (dark at night) hill along the river/stream, at the bottom of the hill are a couple springs (one of them being the spout people suck on for a gross buzz) and a playground/parking area.
Exactly. Let me try and find a map of the park/venue and I'll let you know.look up thread for links to google satellite map and PDF of park map, conveniently labelled with place-names.
We all need custom shirts with the .net fish logo and our handle written in blue text across the chest (ex: @WGphan92) so we can EASILY spot eachother... and rage the lawn together if we happen to bump into one another. Just imagine all the missed opportunities at shows in the past, you couldve been getting down with a fellow .netter and not even known it.. that would no longer be an issue and it'd be saweeeet to see the .net turnout at each show. lolThey do sell .net shirts right here, I for one will be wearing my blanks and postage shirt. I'll be packing my Fishman dress if I'm feeling frisky/spunky.
I think a lot meet-up could be done fairly easily in the East Lot off Rt. 50. This is where I always park at SPAC because it is easy-in & easy out. If you get there around 1:00 or 2:00 it is still pretty empty. I don't think it would be difficult to get some vehicles and gear back to the southeast corner, or set up along the east side near the trees.
@johnnyd said:Yes and it is actually to the right of the main gate not the left.Duly noted, @Fees_Nipple. Honestly, I've been going to SPAC since summer 1994 and there's a pavilion (my and my crew call it "our pavilion"
to the left of Peerless Pool and it's a money spot. It's called Peerless Pool Pavilion and usually no one ever reserves it on concert days because it's not really family friendly.
The pool is a big plus, especially if it's a super hot day. All you gotta do is pay $3 and you can use the pool all day.
Anyway, the pavilion skirts a fairly large field that's surrounded by a dense patch of woods - great for frisbee, smoking joints, a quick shag, whatever - and it's got grills and good hiding spots for drinking alcohol, since we know how the cops can be up there.
There's also a volleyball court directly across the walking path from the pavilion.
From this spot to the front gate is a 10 minute walk.
There are bathrooms close by and the parking lot is near the pool.

U talking bout the entrance near the food vendors? that park like area with the wierd art boulder sculpure things? Cuz if you are thats a good spot! But not sure if you park in the main lots u can get over thayer?
On another note i wouldnt like to do the bar thing. Me and prolly many others are getting bus'd to the show. Part of the campground deal so bar would totally f*** that whole not having to drive thing up, ya know...
But i Will be thayer this time, Promise!
If I'm there I'll give ya a ride @Phlat_Brim_Kid. I'm hoping to be there. I'm probably gonna have to take a CPR course this summer though, so it all depends on when that falls.Sweet a ride and someone to recestiate me!
