What was Phish thinking...

dkast85 releasing Hampton 1998 long before Hampton 1997?

_________________________ Hampton 98 had a lot more songs and a decent amount of covers. I know it was released just before the Hampton 99 run. My guess it was to drum up more fans.

I remember thinking the same thing back in 1999 when they released it. Other than possibly the greatest simple ever, I don't really care for those '98 shows.

Every festival..... in theaters.... one each week.

chris200w Official releases were light on '97 shows in general for a while. The original LP series only had one! Luckily they subsequently released Hampton/Winston-Salem, 12/7, 12/29-30, and a few others from that year.

I'm with @_________________________, it probably made more sense to them to release the Hampton shows from the previous year, rather than two years prior, in order to get people excited for the '99 run. Similar to how many of the Live Bait releases were designed to whet our appetites for an upcoming tour/run.

Amen. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Phish needs to do what the Dead did with Europe '72, but with one (or all!) of those tours.

BrolgiApparatus When i last watched Bittersweet Motel, I was thinking about all of the footage that Todd Philips probably had in addition to what was in the movie (Europe Shows, Fall '97 and The Great Went) and how great the quality is in the movie. How do we get it released?

Do you really drum up fans with a $60 box set?

I think the idea was more to drum up excitement among existing fans. In fact, the release could have been to increase ticket sales and box set sales. I know I'd be more likely to buy a Hampton box set if I had tickets to upcoming Hampton shows.

I agree, a $60 box set is not a product release aimed at winning over non-fans.

hampton comes alive seemed to want to capture the fun/gimmicky/random cover song part of the band that had not been touched on previous releases, a live one(jammed out staples), ss and p (funky/covers phish made their own)

my .02

TheBag Actually Todd Phillips only filmed the Rochester show, an a few europe shows. There wouldnt be much left unseen.
