I wanna hear about - super stoked for the show and would love some stories or facts from folks who have attended before. It has to be good if the smallest venue is getting 2 nights!

Went to Portsmouth last year and will be there again this year. Beautiful venue being right on the water. Easy parking with a couple of garages near the venue. Small lot scene across the street from the venue. Pretty soft gate from what I remember. Had a great time last year and looking forward to two more great shows.
Score: 3

gigglestik Permalink
gigglestik One point to remember from last year, it seems that there were 2 entrances going in but when the show was over they closed one down forcing everyone to exit towards the right (facing the stage) of the stage. This caused a little chaos and stampeding but nothing too horrendous. Maybe just plan to work your way over that way once the encore starts up.

frantic0blivion i will also be jumping on tour on the 19th. have been at both previous shows at this venue. parking was easier & free last year cause it was a sunday. tues & wed this time means only those who really want to be at these shows will attend. should be a good, more serious crowd

old towne portsmouth just a few blocks away. naval battleships docked right behind the venue. tiny place. it's pretty great. it's also all GA which is the way phish is meant to be. let me repeat that because it is so very important: phish is meant to be seen in all general admission venues

i can't tell you how annoying security/staff gets when they treat the phish crowd like every other group that comes through. we're capable of all finding our own space & getting along with each other. we don't need venue aisle or ticket nazis harshing our vibe

frantic0blivion my trick is to wait until setbreak & while everyone is moving from the pit/floor to the concourse i move up close to the stage. first set just chill where ever. i hear it's nice on the lawn. the best pav seats fill up pretty quick but you should still be able to find a decent one 30 min prior to the start of the show (so like when the ticket says the show is supposed to start)

nice, i see some dads in that pic

Not a bad seat in the house, lawn is about as far as the end row of seats of most shed pavilion, Hit up the liquor store because bars are sparse but keep a red cup handy, VA 5.0 aint nuthin to f*** wit...No smoking under the pav and the staff are hawks so be mindful of puffing, No real lot scene to speak of but mad people congregating all day the last two performances, NO SPEEDING IN VA.(just don't do it)!!!! they profile sticker'd out rides especially and don't much go for the "No sir, you don't have the right to search my vehicle"...Smaller hotel owners aren't too cool with the late night get down either but that goes without saying, There is definitely a High St. so we have that going for us....

gratefulmommyx3 I was there last year & will be on the 19th! Sweet venue...I thought parking was pretty crazy though. We ended up in some grassy area with trees by an overpass. We got blocked in after the show and had to do some creative manuvering to get out. I was close to the front in the beginning, but decided to move after 15 minutes because I couldn't see a thing. I was bummed I missed seeing all of the dads on stage! Once we moved to the grass we had great view and lots of room to groove. Yes...bathroom lines are LONG, but it's always fun to chat with fellow Phans~

It's a really cool venue, and based on the past two performances Phish seems to really enjoy playing there. If you're looking for some good daytime activities, Portsmouth is only a short drive from Virginia Beach.

Also, is anyone camping at the First Landing state park?

ITSnICE @the_florist I live in Virginia Beach and highly recommend Firts Landing for camping and taking a morning stroll through the bald cypress swamps. It's beautiful. I love the venue for all of the reasons previously mentioned and also second the drive around the speed limit rule in VA. I don't like to be profiled so I don't have any stickers on my car. I think that is a good practice no matter where you are driving.

Great Venue. Local bars were OK but pretty dead last year. It felt like, if need be everyone could fit under the pav, if it rained. Bathroom lines were pretty long right at set break but died down before they went back on. Beer vendors were too accessible. I hear the beir garden is the spot in Portsmouth.

Been to both shows here, last year brought my son to his first show there. We stuck near the top of the lawn and I will say that when Harpua busted out, the sound back there wasn't that great, but it did improve so must've just needed some tweekin'. My wife's like "It's not loud enough, doesn't sound good" and I'm like "Shut up, it's Harpua!" Yep, my son't 1st song was Harpua. Pretty darn special. Boy was totally spun out on snow cones at that point!

1st year was in the pavilion, never had any issue with security, amazing sound, can't beat it. See you next week!

buffalo_voice Perhaps my favorite venue on the east coast, just spectacular. Saw both Phish shows there as well as Phil Lesh/Ratdog/Trichromes back in about 2002. Everytime, if I want to be up front to dance that is super easy to do, as is finding a seat to take a breather.

Beautiful sails as the venue roof, yachts and a naval hospital ship, I think, were all in view last year...really kinda odd which is another reason why it is cool!

Keep your head about you driving in and anywhere around the venue, lots and lots of security but if you have a solo cup and don't act stupid you won't have any issues.

Can't wait!!

Dino_Spumoni Permalink
Dino_Spumoni Here are some other things to keep in mind while driving. Even if you don't have stickers on your car, cops may profile you based on your license plate. Especially those us coming from New England, NY, PA or NJ. And of course, do basic things that we sometimes neglect doing. Wear seatbelts, use directionals, limit cell phone use, (as already stated above) follow the speed limit and if smoking cigarettes; use your ashtray or get a butt bucket. Cops can pull you over for littering for tossing your butts.

Sorry if i'm rambling on stating the obvious. Pretty stoned, really excited and just want this trip to go smoothly for myself and everybody else.
Happy Travels Y'all.
