A Little Review:

Sec1: Phish Rock Opera ~ The Man Who Stepped into Yesterday ~ Gamehendge
Phish wrote a Rock Opera called The Man Who Stepped Into Yesterday (TMWSIY). It was Trey’s Senior Thesis at Goddard College, 1987. It tells the story of a mythical place called Gamehendge. The people of Gamehendge are called the Lizards, their prophet is Icculus, he gave them the Helping Friendly Book (HFB) which guides them to Live in Harmony with each other and Nature. Some stuff on the HFB: contains all the knowledge 'inherent' in the Universe, the secret of the book is the 'Trick' of Surrendering to the Flow to be at peace, & of course, Children are old enough to read Icculus.

A traveler comes to Gamehendge named Wilson, he steals the HFB from the Lizards and enslaves them. The story is about a group of Revolutionaries and how they are trying to overthrow Wilson and return the Helping Friendly Book to the Lizards. Our Hero is another traveler to Gamehendge called Colonel Forbin, he meets Rutherford the Brave who gives him the lowdown of the state of affairs in GH. Forbin begins to join the Revolution.

All kinds of drama ensue. There are spies & betrayal, love & hate. The Revolutionaries’ mission comes to a gut-wrenching peak as the group breaks apart with scandalous accusations that Tela, a Revolutionary & the Jewel of Wilson’s Foul Domain, is a spy followed by her attempted murder!
Col. Forbin goes crazy, as the revolution appears to die around him, deciding to climb the Mountain (where The Rhombus is found) to find Icculus, hoping to get help with Wilson and return the Helping Friendly Book to the Lizards.

Icculus sends the Famous Mockingbird to fly to Wilson’s Castle to recover the HF Book and return it to the Revolutionaries, hoping this will give them the power to overthrow Wilson. The HF Book is brought to Errand Wolffe the leader of the Revolution. When the Mockingbird brings him the Book, he uses it to take Wilson out with the help of The Sloth, but then puts himself in Wilson’s Place, stowing the Mockingbird with Glue & Rubberbands…hiding the Helping Friendly Book & continuing to oppress the Lizards.

This is how the Rock Opera currently ends! Gamehendge is still enslaved. The Famous Mockingbird is stowed away, Tela has been left for dead & Col. Forbin is locked in an inter-dimensional cell. There are all kinds of confusion and disarray with the Revolution. Betrayal abounds and un-requited love prevails...basically, it’s a Cliffhanger...

Sec2: A Helping Friendly Book is Found !
In July 1999, there was a show in Oswego NY. Phish performed the song Icculus live for the first time in almost 4 years. Trey was Ranting and Raving about the Helping Friendly Book, 'Read the Book!!' Before the next show, at a little used book store, a book is found, a very strange Children’s Poetry book called 'Well, You Can Imagine' Hmmmm...There are cartoon people on the cover that look just like Trey and Page, Page is sitting on a rock with a book on his lap with a Lizard jumping out of the book...it's published in 1983, the year PhSSh formed...inside there is a drawing of a Mockingbird, strutting and getting phunky & cartoons of Cactus & Fishman...words from songs...much more...finally, the last few sentences in the book sum up the book’s philosophy: 'Open up the Gates of Imagination and Let Things Flow’...July 20, 1999 the Book hits lot...Phish plays The Sloth

9/28/99, Birmingham, Al: TREY SAID ABOUT THE BOOK: 'THIS IS IT'

Any book can be a Helping Friendly Book. Does it remind you to be in the moment and 'Surrender to the Flow'? Does it remind you that we are born with all the knowledge 'inherent' in the Universe and that Children know the truth, that 'the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these', does it help you to live in Harmony with others and Nature?... 'Well, you can imagine' is just such a book.

TMWSIY, the Gamehendge rock opera is left unfinished, Phish has NEVER played the whole thing live (all Thesis tunes). It is a metaphor for the state of the World and our place in it as we strive for freedom, learn to be happy and in 'the flow' to return to innocence in our relations with each other and Nature. It is ALSO a reflection of the Microcosm of the Phish Community, what has happened to the Scene and lot, and how Phish's attitude toward this whole thing has evolved and JUST WHAT are the dynamics of the relationship between Phish and their Phollowers?

a great Myth like TMWSIY contains Archetypes, which are easily identifiable in ourselves, others, & in the drama unfolding in the world around us...

Prussia is without a doubt a version of Babylon...
Gamehendge is then Zion or the Garden of Eden

So we can all identify with times & circumstances when we have been:
Wilson: a tyrant who has taken advantage of others
Rutherford the Brave: someone trying to do the right thing, but messing up & being used
Forbin: coming into a situation & attempting to help only to find things so outta control there is nothing you can do but appeal for Divine Help, or falling for a Lady & trying to be a Knight in Shining Armor only to have her snatched out from underneath you
the Sloth: Having enough of the Man's B.S. & Rising up & taking 'em out
Tela: The True Leader, the Jewel, misunderstood & choked off by so called friends
or Errand Wolffe: Losing your original best intentions & getting caught up in the way of Babylon, selling out your highest visions & double crossing the Lizards

the Myth is meant to teach us & guide us... but TMWSIY is left unfinished, what is the lesson here? that in the end: the Bad guys Win?? do we think Icculus or Rutherford or the Sloth are going to sit still while Errand Takes Over the Hendge, Forever??

Umm, Sir? I wasted the entire first set of Friday night hoping to catch just ONE glimpse of the Rhombus.
I almost didn't go last night but @forbin1 stayed with me on the phone until I fell asleep at 4:30 am.

If you are real, and quite frankly sir, I am beginning to have serious doubts about this, please let me know which song in which set you will spin said rhombus. Maximize extendo pole action. Preferably make it during first set daylight.

Neither @forbin1 or I have enough cell phone minutes left in our monthly plan to affordably recover from another abandonment.

This is my Santa Clause moment. If this believer is crushed, the band and all its members will be forever indemnified against any harms caused by Gamhendgeless sets. You sir, YOU will bear the sole cause of dashing the hopes and dreams of thousands of followers and it will be YOUR actions that keep Gamehendge from hearing the light of day.

That guy on the cover of that book looks like more like Rosie O'Donnell than he does Trey, and it doesn't even look a little bit like Rosie O'Donnell.
