There are highway motels in Marin (Travelodge etc.) just over the bridge, 90$ range, not sketchy areas & easy drives post-show (depending on your buzz). Parking at BGCA is not bad at all, SF-wise. I wouldn't want to drive to San Mateo, but it's not really all that far either.
What is your budget??was around 120ish per night, lost my job last week now looking in the 80-120 range
@retired_from_dotnet Have you tried to "name your price" on priceline?
Hostels, and hotels in Daly City are chill. I stay in Daly City whenever I go to outside lands. Hotels within close walking distance of BART
Um, fwiw and speaking as a local, there is no reason to pay a dime for parking near BGCC. I've been dozens of times and never had to. Parking on the street is legal and not too hard. I second hotel kabuki though, if you can get it at that price, and of course not driving at all is sweet...
@23piper when have you ever been able to get a room at the Kabuki for 80-120?? They also charge a resort fee, however, they do have self-parking for under 20 bucks a night! Give me the deets on cheap prices?? I seem to only get to stay there for $150+? The other major plus of staying there would be the free passes to the baths!
I regularly receive promos in my inbox from jdvhotels.com and I seem to recall rooms at Kabuki for $130 - $150 a night. For the quality, it's a very good price. But yes, you can find cheaper and remember folks, there is always Muir Woods.

Some crucial tips: if you stay north of the city (Marin County) then public transportation will suck for you - basically not an option. If you drive there should be parking right in front of the venue underground for a steep fee (probably $20-$25 per night). If you stay in the East Bay (Berkeley or Oakland) try to find a hotel near a BART station (see 511.org). The venue is very, very close to the Civic Center BART station so this could keep things simple and cheap for you. There are BART stations in the Peninsula as well but not in very interesting locations - though you might save some money if you choose to stay in Daly City or South San Francisco - just don't expect to spend any quality time near the hotel. Lastly, there are several reasonably priced boutique hotels near the venue, as well. Just be forewarned that there is a strange phenomenon in SF where some of the nicest boutiques are located in or near the single sketchiest part of town - the Tenderloin. The Tenderloin is actually not very dangerous, and if you are looking to score some crack or an evening with a tranny prostitute, it can be super-convenient. I recommend Hotel Kabuki for a nice, romantic, not-too-expensive and convenient spot. It's not walking distance but there is public transportation to the venue, a quick/cheap cab ride, or parking at both locations, and it's in a clean, safe, quiet and central part of town - so you can't go wrong.+Steam
Terrapin xroads is in San Rafael...
Be sure when you are there to keep referring to the city as "San Fran" or "Frisco".
The locals hate it, which is why I do it.

lol @retired_from_dotnet, those Sans all run together late @night..
Let me add some variables. I am driving down from Seattle. I will have my wife (shes kind of a pussy when it comes to homeless/drugs/hookers/ghetto shit) So I have to keep that in mind when selecting where we stay. We plan on doing the tourist shit during the day and then freaking freely at the BGCA. So I will have a car which I have heard maybe a hindering? I guess my main question is how far away is to far away?In my experience San Fran's mass transit is wonderful. Busses. Trains. Gets you there.
I have some experience getting around SF (lived up there for a couple of years).
There are two BART stations less than a mile away from BGCA.

Back when the Dead would play the Oakland Coliseum Arena it would always be a trip after the show with what seemed like a third of the crowd literally sprinting across the elevated pedestrian walkway to the Coliseum BART station, jumping the rails or whatever one had to do to make the last train into the city. The looks on the faces of civilians as their previously almost empty train was suddenly jam-packed with Deadheads was priceless. Good times.
Hilton Garden Inn near Oakland bridge?? Sounds enticing... but wait Oakland like the rap songs?Yes, like the rap songs. Oakland is awesome AND dangerous. Hipsters love it!
It's also going to suck driving back there after the show and having to deal with the bridge going back and forth. I would definitely reconmend just staying in SF, plenty of decently priced hotels. Or try airBNB like you said, might be able to find a really sweet place
Or try -

If your wife is sketched out by a lot of things I would NOT reconmend staying in Oakland. The Bart is close. Won't spend too much time in Oakland. She needs to toughen up a bit anyways. It's only 2 nights then off to the lavish W hotel.
