Control For Smilers-7/28-The Blockley-Philly

Languedoctor Permalink
Hey everyone, 1st post on the .net after being a lurker for a long time. I just wanted to throw out the info for my band, Control For Smilers, we are a Phish Tribute band working in Philly and playing when the band is not on tour. To that end, we have a break between legs 1&2 party coming at The Blockley Saturday night July 28th (this is during Phish's break from tour).

We would love if some of your Philly area phans could make it out (Im sure some of you have already). We intentionally try to play very high energy shows and have a super fun mix of people that are coming to our shows regularly, making for a great crowd and tons of dancing. We will also have The 9's Funk Band supporting us, excellent horn band, heavy on grooves.

Anyway, Ive linked the facebook event, Blockley event info and a youtube of some of our recent playing.

Thanks so much, All!!

mfhgreyboy I've seen thees guys and they are quite good. Everyone should check them out. Even if The Blockley isn't your favorite venue (it sure as hell isn't mine) it's generally a really good time.

I will be there... Particularly because the Blockley is, HANDS DOWN, the best, most intimate venue I've been to in a long while... Seriously, how can you not LOVE that place?!?!? I've sat on stage at the feet of Marco Benevento as he jammed out, hung out with Stephen and Rohan Marley at the venue and was then invited on to the tour bus after the show... Seriously, what more could you possible ask for???

Yeah, I caught your 4/20 show with Splintered and was impressed. Keep it up! And your right, the Blockley is a fairly large space and it's certainly easy to get to/park. Check these guys out, people!

Well, I don't know about anyone else, but to me it is not the best idea to interrupt the dance floor/straight on stage view with a bar that runs the width of the dance floor. If you don't want to be within 5' of the stage but want to view the band directly you are stuck having to peer through the bar to do so. It's uncomfortable and odd.

If you want a better venue in Philly check World Cafe Live or Union Transfer. Or TLA. Or maybe even the Troc.

At least it isn't as bad as the Electric Factory. Worst venue in the city.

Yeah, IT was a really crazy feeling playing there for the 1st time on 4/20, felt like we were surrounded by people, bugged me out some haha (Im the guitarist). We had equipment and sound issues, taboot, making the night an adventure. We're really excited to get back there, play two sets so we can take our time and get weird and really have some fun with it :D
