SPAC question

talkinghead Permalink
This is mostly idle curiosity, but at the far back of the lawn at spac, way behind the beer tent, in the long brick building with the columns and arches, there is a bar and gathering spot that is not open to the hoi polloi. (The building might be the Roosevelt Baths.) Sometimes there is a long narrow bar to the right that *is* open, but to the left of that is a fenced off area, separating the private area. Is this some kind of VIP space or club? Who has access to it? I have seen VIP parking available with some tickets, but I don't think I've seen VIP club passes or anything like that (like they have at Alpine, etc). What's the deal? I don't care especially about getting in--I'm happy being part of the great unwashed--but I've always liked the spac grounds and am curious.

btw, sounds like another fine show last night. It's so, so good to hear....

gladtobeglenn 1. hoi polloi refers to the aristocratic class, i believe. not us.

2. the 1st line directly behind the fence on the lawn behind the pav sounds real good. but you have to go in early as that area is staked out early. i'll be there!

jackl Most of the lawn is good for sound, except for the top rim. Get there relatively early, near doors, bring a small blanket and hang out. As @Axilla says, speakers and the front of the shed have been replaced this year (after 45 years!) so there should be some improvement in sound.

The place of which you speak at the back of the lawn near the Hall of Springs entrance is a LiveNation VIP area. You can't get tickets or passes, etc. or buy your way in; you have to be a friend of a LiveNation person.

"Hoi polloi" is used in English to refer to the working class, commoners, "the masses" or "common people" in a derogatory sense." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoi_polloi. So, yeah, no "hoi polloi" in the Live Nation VIP area.

Thanks, @jackl. I'm no friend of Live Nation, so I'm guess I'm on the outside of that party.
