Second, I'm wondering what career fields you all are in that gives you the time and money to see lots of shows.
You want to see a lot of shows, be a teacher. (Assuming independently wealthy is more of a "reach" type option.)
That, and have no family that you ever care to see, and have no friends that ever get married. Seriously its the 5 weddings a year that really eat up the vaca time.
However, having a serious girlfriend who's not nuts about Phish makes it difficult. Therefore, tonight and tomorrow I am visiting my best friend in the city. Yeah.
I am but a humble civil servant, derping away in the derp mines. I can afford to see more shows than I have time for. I'd love to see more, but can't complain at all.

Teaching is a good route, as long as you have a second income (wifey!) or another venture that makes you money. Teaching is great for scheduling, but without a second source of income, still not ideal.
P.S. the rash of weddings end soon enough, and shows take precedence over 2nd marriages
P.S. the rash of weddings end soon enough, and shows take precedence over 2nd marriagesThat's what we've been telling ourselves since like 2002. Having an 8 yr age difference between me and the wife means friends of many ages, getting married for all eternity.
Definitely sign'd on second marriages. Haven't been invited to one of those yet.

It is a fairly rigid industry vacationwise. I dont see more than a few shows per year. Weekday shows are almost always out of the question.
Im good at my job, but terrible with my money. 30 and still renting with roommates. However i'd rather be in my situation than tied down with a wife I dont like/respect, a house I cant afford, and kids I never see. (sounds cynical i know, but so many friends my age are in this exact position.)
thats me in a nutshell.
I'm a tax accountant. I work like crazy from Feb - Apr and Sept - Oct but the summer and NYE is easy breezy (and the pay is great)
Right on. CM here too. Definitely not a phish crowd amongst most construction workers...

I did my fair share of construction work back in the late 80's-90's and the field was full of Deadheads. In many ways the construction site was very similar to Shakedown St. You could find pretty much anything you wanted! :-)

@highgravity said: [quote]construction management - most people I work with look at me funny when I say I'm going to a Phish show.good to know! the industry overall is pretty insane. I know guys working 60+ hrs/wk on the regular. Luckily, I have managed to find a place that treats its employees better than robots. Generally no more than 45-50 hrs/wk. (but they definitely still look at me funny sometimes.) Break a leg out there

"You're looking at it, mannnnn"
@Phishin90 said:I do, on rare occasion, run into a Head on site. On one of my of my favorite past jobs, the superintendent was the second percussionist in a Dead cover band (Turtle Pot Pie.) He saw a lot of shows in the 80's and had some good stories. Definitely the exception to the norm however.@highgravity said: [quote]construction management - most people I work with look at me funny when I say I'm going to a Phish show.It is funny how times change. I'm a software programmer and research assistant at University of North Texas. I do a lot of freelance mobile application design and am starting my MBA in the Spring of 2013.
I willways write software but I'd like to get a PhD so I can teach college and consult during the summer (dream career).
How I have seen so many shows (many many more than just Phish):
I love to travel, that means Im good at it. That helps with financials on the road. I have been a student for eight years, two degrees and A LOT of financial aid, some loans most grants. I am very careful with my financial aid and also very shrewd and picky when choosing housing over the years. My yearly costs of school, housing, food and rec always come in about $5000 short of what's projected by my school.
Since most of it is grants/scholarships or federal loans, I can use that $5000 guilt free to usually travel and buy new stuff for my imaginary band (if I only have eight limbs).
It gets harder and harder to see bands like Phish, you gotta travel and you gotta be able to drop out for a couple weeks.
I just did Electric Forest, driving from Texas with a friend. We left on the 27th, now in Syracuse, IN and will be back in Denton, TX the 9th. Including gas, food, drink, recreational material, festival tickets and a shirt, the overall cost should come in less than $1100, and we've been raging it. Could do it cheaper, but it gets stressful.
National Forest camping.
I of course am looking to get you a job that pays you mucho $$$ so you can burn the f***er down.
I am a Technical Recruiter looking for IT folks who want to work for Investment Banks.Um....yes please.

Not many Phish fans in my neck of the woods, plenty of D&D guys though.
I am a integration specialist for Identity and Access Management softwares. A glorified support engineer for large scale enterprise companies that use many different software products that work together.
I get 15 vacation days and 3 personals a year. half my vacation goes to Phish,.....the band.
I do also some fishing and walks on the boardwalk with a nice lady named henrietta.
I know a bunch of cats who went to UNT - they all play in the Polyphonic Spree
Yup yup.
If you're in Brooklyn, check out Snarky Puppy. Those guys bring it every time -- Im still a little miffed at them for claiming Brooklyn when they are from Denton.

Horticulturist at Denver Botanic Gardens. Head of the Cactus and Succulent Collections, and I also manage several Colorado native plant gardens as well. Good stuff.this sounds excellent! I have a Bachelor's in Landscape Architecture, but am not currently using it. Indiana is not exactly a bastion of green design :\ Next time i'm in Denver i will try to fit in a trip to the DBG!
I work at the corporate office of Chipotle Mexican Grill. I handle the leases for the restaurants.

Hey, we're working on it, highgravity.
I'm also in hoosierland. I work with park depts and trail groups. Killer job, but pay + commute costs don't support much phishing

Also I work as part of the stage crew at Brewery Ommegang in Cooperstown,NY. They have a summer concert series and have some decent acts coming up. We did a Cake concert about a month ago, Death Cab for Cutie is comin up in a couple weeks, Lyle Lovett and then Wilco july 27&28 respectively, then Bon Iver and Darius Ruckin in September.. its not a bad gig, but its seriously hard ass work. I loved working for the Cake concerrt. lots of fun, but worked till 5am tearing down the stage afterwards.. that part isnt fun. lol
So needless to say, i dont make a lot of money and dont see a lot of shows. SPAC run is it for me this summer. and i'll try to make it to a MSG show (assuming there will be a run of shows)
