Multiple names for one person

careful_w_that_axe_Miller Permalink
careful_w_that_axe_Miller I think that there are people out there with more than one .net account; is this possible. If you enter .net from google search, there is a link to an article regarding "trolls" is that what a troll is?

How can you identify if a person is 10 people?

6. You may use a screen name or "handle" rather than your real name, but you can only have one account. Multiple accounts registered from the same IP address will be subject to deletion.
We have some safeguards in place and extremely little tolerance or patience for such shenanigans. If you know or suspect someone posting or voting from multiple active accounts, please let anyone on the site team know via Private Message so that we can address the situation.

You'll get different definitions of what trolling is. Thats a whole conversation in itself.
In broad terms, its someone who is around with the intention of disrupting the community. Multiple fake logins, egging each other on or ganging up on another user is one flavor of this.

Sometimes trolling is a little more harmless or humorous in intent. Saying something you don't really believe in to elicit a response. Of course this becomes a slippery slope.

I haven't said this explicitly in a while, and this is a good opportunity. (I've held this belief since long before I was on the site admin team - its not a "party line" kind of thing):

We can go pretty much anywhere on the internet and be a total flaming asshole. (Its easy, and in fact its something I happen to be particularly good at.) But its nice to have this one place where there is a low tolerance for people that bring nothing to the table other than general douchery. Where mutual respect, even when opinions differ, is the expectation. I like that a lot, and I know a lot of our most regular users do as well.

careful_w_that_axe_Miller I like this forum very much, I'm relatively new and learning the ropes. I often times feel like certain users have at least one double, to vote them up; ha ha I could be a paranoid Pete though.

My intuition is normally accurate, I will say. Thanks for info

Dearest Reginald,

I'm still not completely sure what a "troll" is, but if it was a person who consistently spews negetivity and shits upon other people's threads then I'd advise a trip to "the Magic Theater" to address the dichotomy of existence.

I could only handle reading a bit of that, like listening to my nieces and nephews fight. Wow, really? What started it? @johnnyd, if you aren't too busy?

Btw: I'm not that dude. Is it possible for you to see my IP or whatever and calm fears? I don't wish to disrupt this group of people in anyway.

Something I've had to do vast research to understand.

As I've said before, if I was really worried about it, I'd create new account. Regardless, great for laughs.

Absolutely too busy to drum up any of this. Drama is just not that high on my list.

Suffice it to say we want the forum to take care of itself as much as possible so the site team can focus on adding new content and functionality, and the MBF team can focus on their mission of helping to provide music education to children.
