startingtowonder I know this is a weird choice, but I've always loved Quad Top from Cypress. Maybe it's due to my personal experience at the time, but that jam just feels like a warm hug from inside or something.

@RR1994, you started the thread, any suggestions?

I have a hard time choosing personally. That's kind of why I started this thread. However, the two I usually alternate between are the riverport gin, and the 07/04/99 slave. The riverport gin is my favorite type 2 jam, but I also love that slave. It's probably the most soulful phish jam I've ever heard. Treys guitar lick at the end that he repeats is my favorite guitar part in any song performed by anyone ever. I know it's nothing crazy but within the context of that jam... Wow.

No shit! I have a jam for many different moods...

15 min drive to work = tweezer> walk away alpine '00
Getting ready to go out and party down = ghost> izabella star lake 97
Late night solo smoking = sb9 or lemon wheel "4th set"

I could go on...

@MiguelSanchez and @RR1994 (OP) both said Riverport Gin. So mind your tongue.

Please tell me the date for this Gin. I don't think I've heard it yet.

My currents not having listened to every single Phish show in history (Have a life somewhat), is:

Nassau '03 Tweezer equally weighted with the same show's Gin. Whole show rocks.

River port is 7/29/98

It is the best phish piece ever played. It flows from start to finish as if it was composed, note for note, which in a sense it was, as it draws from phish's entire career up to that point.

Its gorgeous like a ten dollar souther whore.

That's a hard one. If your talking about a tune that's over a certain time limit or just a tune that they jam to? Your gonna get all kinds of answers here. Everyone has there own ones that they loved. I thought the DWD from 7-15-00 to start the second set was pretty good or the Tweezer from 11-30-95 was great. There are so many to choose from......

DriedupGoliath Permalink
DriedupGoliath The right answer is the Ghost from 5/22/00. A true monster.

Don't sleep on the Pipers from 9/11/00 (funk grooves galore) and 6/19/04 (so unbelievably out there...with a full on 6-7 minute "Tweezer Reprise" jam)

It's not from an official show, but it doesn't get any better than the Bethel soundcheck version of "Waves." Holy shit. One of the most beautiful half hours of music ever laid down.

The best jam from a real 3.0 show is the Rock and Roll-> Meatstick from the Gorge, hands down. The last minute or two of jamming when they leave the theremin and start to jam towards Meatstick is stunning, and some of the best on-the-spot improvised music I've heard from Phish, ever.

spaced Not enough love for the Providence Bowie (12/29/94). It does everything well: gorgeous melodicism, rawk peakage, and spooky psychedelicism, and it flows perfectly while never dragging. If I had to pick one, it's probably that.

7/2/97 Stash has always been a favorite too. Takes a while to get going, but contains some of the most effortlessly beautiful Type II I've ever heard.
