Best soundchecks?

I'm looking for people's opinion on the best soundchecks as far as them just goofing off and interacting

I like the Clifford Ball check a lot too. They're all worth checking out.

@stedman24 Shows that include soundchecks are noted on the spreadsheet.

im lovin the glens falls soundcheck from 10.31.94. they start off and it sounds almost like a 'the band' song, then they just go off. somewhat blues-y but still very phish-y. seems like sound checks are a great place for the band to let loose a little without the pressure of the crowd. like someone said in another thread, i cant imaging what their studio jams sound like.

Phish - 9.14.11 Essex Junction Soundcheck

Jam (13:00)
Midnight Confessions
Ginseng Sullivan
Silent Night (on Theremin)
“Too Much Fried Dough at the Fair” ->
Peaches en Regalia
Cannonball tease
Jam (6:00)

Some gems from the soundcheck:
•Trey discussing tripping balls on Christmas morning
•Trey mentions that the vacuum and theremin sound the exact same, and they should do a duet. Page says, “good idea.”
•Jam #1. Where the hell is this at shows? As Gordo said when it finished, “Please email that to me.” Seriously. So disgusting. Let it rip like this, gentlemen!
Score: 6

frantic0blivion Permalink
frantic0blivion ah yes, the essex soundcheck was some fun

the IT soundcheck (jam> skin it back, jam) is very solid as well & along with some of the deeper type II stuff (46 days, ghost, the jam between waves & bowie) compliments the tower jam nicely

that compilation is pretty sick & covers a good deal of ground. there's still more out there so keep on digging

party at the lamppost? jugglers with fire...

wish they'd play this outside of TAB. also wish a bunch of MGB songs made their way to the phish stage

Headphones jam. That's what studio jams sound like my friend. I wish they would release more, I would pay the price of a show download for some hidden studio gems

I'm also partial to the 8/14/98 Lemonwheel check "...and it had no bone."

The Big Cypress soundcheck was killer. I wrote a review awhile back (see the review section for 12.29.99).

The IT soundcheck was incredible as well ... still remember rolling thru Limestone getting our minds blown on the car radio to it!

Roofless_Sheds Permalink
Roofless_Sheds i just threw this together last weekend to have a CD for the car, but upon repeated listening, it accidentally turned out to be one of the best Phish compilations i've ever made.

it's a CD-length collection of my favorite NON-FESTIVAL soundchecks, recorded between 1993 and 2000. the tracklist:

1) Glen Falls Jam (10/31/94, with Star Wars 'Luke & Leia Theme' tease from Trey)
2) Arcata Jam >
3) Dog Log > Jam (3/28/93, with full-band 'Beverly Hills Cop' theme tease)
4) Miss You >
5) Take Me To The River (4/9/93, with Can't You Hear Me Knocking ending)
6) Vancouver Jam >
7) Leprechaun >
8) The Wedge (8/24/93, original Wedge arrangement... the jam sounds like a proto-Meat)
9) The Buffalo Soundcheck Song! (9/14/00)

Anyone else having trouble with the links? For some reason I can't get discs 1,2, or 3 to give me the option to download - but had no problem getting a working DL for discs 4 & 5.

Might be the network I'm on...might be voodoo?

You are right on! This is one of the best soundchecks. I feel like these jams could re-appear on Phish's new album with some added structure.

- Providence Soundcheck 04/03/1998 (sick drums and bass)
- Buffalo Soundcheck 9/14/2000 (funny made-up lyrics over a solid groove)
- Glens Falls Soundcheck 10/31/1994 (smoooooooth)
- Spooky Soundcheck 8/13/1996 (this one is also awesome but im running out of synonyms for "good" ;)

So no, I didn't hook that bad boy. Good call on the Rainbow ID. A few people have called it as a steelhead on the .net but it is in fact a rainbow. A fine example if ever there was one... That said I am a bit of an obsessive fly angler. You?

Thanks for the thread love. It was no simple task putting that thread together and I done gots no love for it here. Cheers friend. I got tons of enjoyment in listening to each of those soundchecks as I put it together and I'm glad you got some enjoyment out of it too.

Cheers.
