Also, if anyone has any mailings from before Spring 1991 or anything that might be missing from this archive, please let me know so we can get it all in one place.
Enjoy!

Good job Kevin
devoted to discussing the band! Topics of discussion
include: setlists and and comments from recent shows;
questions and answers about song titles, lyrics, and chords;
reports of wild events (like Trey Rollerblading through the
crowd!); and lots more! There are also announcements of
an easy way to acquire live Phish tapes!

"Already, the duo has begun work on five new songs: Chalkdust Torture, It's Ice, Clyde, Germ, and Guelah Papyrus."
Anyone have any idea what Clyde and Germ are?
From the first news letter in 91: "Already, the duo has begun work on five new songs: Chalkdust Torture, It's Ice, Clyde, Germ, and Guelah Papyrus." Anyone have any idea what Clyde and Germ are?I'm willing to bet Clyde was changed to Glide, since it's debut was right after It's Ice in September of '91
Trey just shelved it for 15 years.
Fantastic work, OP. Truly a "community service".

"Authentic Jamaican Roots Reggae."
At least that's settled.
Good stuff, @clevername, thanks for the time you put into this.
It seems like this letter might have been the inspiration for the song Twist. I read the song history of Twist and it did not mention the letter.
Can anyone confirm that A: This is even in the Schvice and B: This was posted to the Schvice well enough before the appearance of the song Twist that my theory is probable?

Can anyone confirm that A: This is even in the Schvice and B: This was posted to the Schvice well enough before the appearance of the song Twist that my theory is probable?Without digging through, that does sound familiar. I believe the pseudonymns for the disco set at the Went were anagrams also. There was a thread on that a while back...
In reference to the letter about the band nicknames, do they call Mike "cactus" because he's a prick?
Just curious,
Kevin
Wailuku, HI
Kevin:
No, if that were the case it would be Fishman's nickname.

Trey Anastasio (the easy one):
Yes, Aorta stain
Stationary Sea
Ian, say "TOASTER"
Arise, nasty oat!
So I suppose it's possible that this letter to the Schvice was part of the inspiration for the song Twist, given the song didn't make its first appearance until 1997.
