Are My Lions Really This Bad?

MJZ1974 Permalink
MJZ1974 On behalf of the entire Detroit Lions organization, I apologize to each and every one of you who have to suffer through watching my team this Monday Night. Nobody should be subjected to this absolute garbage product we put out on the field. Nobody. It's an insult to sports fans in America and it's an insult to my city.

Now, everything that's happening at Soldier Field tonight I've seen 200 times before, so I'm a bit numb to this. We've sucked my entire life. But now...

...now you all know. The pain and suffering I've had to endure ever since I saw my first game (a loss to Green Bay) in 1979. Now the entire country gets to see. How bad we truly are. We haven't improved for jack squat in 30+ years.

Tonight I hang my head in shame in knowing that we are by far and wide the most pathetic sports franchise that has ever existed. Ever. It's not even close. I'm embarrassed for my whole city because the good hard working folks here are better than this. We expect more and we deserve better than this national embarrassment of a franchise.

My God can we ever be even half way decent? Just once in my life...is that too much to ask?

4 Super Bowls?

We've won 1 playoff game since 1957.

Let me restate that. We've won 1 playoff game since 1957.

We'd chop off our arms to have the Bill's success.

EDIT The Browns would have to have 29 more straight losing seasons to even be in the discussion with us.

Flat out this team is worse than the 0-16 team from a few years ago. Or the dozens of 2-14 and 3-13 teams I've seen my whole life. They are.

And Matthew Stafford is the most overrated player in the NFL (Suh is a close second).

I'd love to be proven wrong.
The lions had shit at quarter back that year. An over the hill Daunte Culpepper and a bunch of nobodies. Outside of Calvin Johnson in his sophomore year, can you name another receiver from that team? You can pretty much go position by position and it's either not much different, or 2007's was much worse. Not to mention the joke we had a head coach.

Now lets look at how that team showed up in games. That team lost every game by an average of over 14 points. 10 games lost by 10 or more points. The Lions may be bad right now, but they are somehow finding ways to stay in games.

We'll know a lot more by the end of this season, but you're being god damn ridiculous saying this team is worst then the 0-16 shit-fest we sat through. Makes me think you didn't really watch those games.

Actually that was the last year we had season tickets. And I was piss drunk for every single one! LOL

But seriously, I concede the 0-16 thing to you. The numbers aren't there to support any of my claims. I accept that and defer. And after that last Green Bay game (which may have been our best game of the year) we had lost 23 of 24 dating to the previous year! UGH. No wonder I drank so much. God that was a bad time, but at least we knew it was a bunch of practice squad players and wash-ups. This team is supposed to be good because we've had a top draft pick for 12 of the last 13 years.

But I'd be willing to bet this squad is on pace to drop more passes, fumble more balls, and get flagged for more penalties than that team.

We'll see...

dpwilljr I feel sorry for our defense. They held them to under two touchdowns and gave the offense multiple opportunities to win.
As long as the Ford family retains ownership of the club....the Lions are doomed to mediocrity or worse.
I've been going to games since the late sixties when they played at Tiger stadium. We used to watch them scrimmage at Cranbrook when I was a kid.
I'll never give up on them.

me_no_are_no_nice_guy It really is shocking that it's been the offense that has failed to show up so often in these games. Lately the Defense has been able to put them in good positions, and get the ball back in their hands when needed. Somethings got to change.

Also, f*** Logan.

I'm not sure they are as bad as some of those previous Detroit squads. It just feels that way because there were actually expectations this year. I thought you would challenge gb for the division. Clearly, that will not be the case...

The Bears are a pretty good team, but the Lions should have won that game considering how many red zone chances we had. If the Lions could figure out how to call decent plays and take advantage of what the defense is giving them, we'd be able to pull out wins like that. Our D did a pretty good job holding the Bears to 13 the way they did.

Yeah Johnson had a tough matchup last night with Tillman. Doesn't excuse him dropping an easy pass in the first quarter that probably would've been a touchdown. Tillman looked great though.
