If you could go back in time – knowing what you know now – which show or run of shows (ie Red Rocks 94, or Went, or Island Tour) would you see, and why?
I think for me, Amsterdam in July ’97. Those two shows are pretty much perfect, musically as well as… cough… geographically.
But the one show that I would go against all of this for is Cypress. That experience of not knowing they were going to play as long as they did then have them play until the sun comes up. I'd imagine that was pretty cool to say the absolute least.
Or this. It's tough to pick just one show to travel back in time to jam to. Can I pick a year? Actually, I don't even think I could pick just one year.

1999 Phish Mailing
Edit: and as a 3.0 noob i would also choose Big Cypress
To re-live a show I was at: probably Big Cypress. I'd be better prepared with stimulants to keep me more awake/alert. I didn't crash during the big set or leave, but I was in a fog.
For nostalgia/just because (and because it's a great show, too): halloween 94. hometown show and it was just two seasons before my time.
For the old-time stuff: Amy's Farm
My favorite show ever. If someone asked me this question and was completely serious and it was possible, there would be no questions asked.
Halloween 94 or new years 93
Monday, 11/02/1998
The “E” Center, West Valley City, UT
Set 1: Tube, Tube Jam -> Drowned -> Jesus Just Left Chicago, Driver[1], Bittersweet Motel[1], Limb By Limb, Wading in the Velvet Sea > Sample in a Jar
Set 2: Down with Disease, The Mango Song > The Moma Dance[2], You Enjoy Myself, Harpua[3] > Speak to Me[4] -> Breathe[4] > On The Run[4], Time[4] > The Great Gig in the Sky > Money[4] > Us and Them[4] -> Any Colour You Like[4] -> Brain Damage[4] -> Eclipse[4] > Harpua
Encore: Smells Like Teen Spirit[4]
[1] Trey on acoustic guitar.
[2] Monkey Man (Rolling Stones) teases.
[3] Narration picked up where December 6, 1996 Harpua ended; Jimmy hitched a ride from Vegas to Salt Lake City and the driver was playing Dark Side of the Moon.
[4] Phish debut.
Notes: Driver was dedicated to “Wendy and Lisa,” and Bittersweet Motel was dedicated to the folks at The Dead Goat Saloon (the site of an open mic night appearance by Trey and Mike one night earlier). Driver and Bittersweet Motel featured Trey on acoustic guitar. Moma Dance included Monkey Man (Rolling Stones) teases. The Harpua narration picked up where the December 6, 1996 Harpua ended; Jimmy hitched a ride from Vegas to Salt Lake City and the driver was playing Dark Side of the Moon. Dark Side was reportedly chosen the day of the show, partially based on sluggish ticket sales for this one venue compared to the rest of the tour. All the Dark Side songs were Phish debuts except for Great Gig (last played July 5, 1994, or 332 shows), although the original album version of Speak to Me was piped through the P.A. on Halloween, 1994 and Breathe was jammed on October 25, 1995. Smells Like Teen Spirit was also a Phish debut.

For me, Cypress. No question.
Halloween 94 or new years 93These would probably be my next two answers. Good calls, both.
12/31/93I'm with @westbrook. The whole 93 New Year's run would do just fine, but if I had to pick one,
probably 6/11/94. but i'd want any knowledge of the show or setlist to be wiped from my memory. half the fun of a show is guessing what's next
That being said, Cypress
if i have to return to present time after the show then i would prolly pick my first show - 6/23/2004 so i can see what really happened that night
if i have to live my life out from the time of the show i would pick - 2/13/1997 so i could rage all that over seas Phish mania and still have 15 years more Phish to come
2/17/97. 3/1/97. 11/2/89. 9/24/88. Anything old school.
your question makes me want to ask more questions. what are the rules? if i pick a show and only get to go back for that show and then have to return to our time then it will be a very different answer than if i get to stay and live out my life from the time of the show i pick.I purposely avoided setting rules because I wanted to see how many different interpretations and answers there would be.
I picked shows that I know well, so I had to decide to forgo the anticipation and surprise we all love from seeing a live show, and not knowing what comes next.
So what part of the experience do you focus on when answering the question? Do you want to see a top-10 show, or a special venue or event? Do you want to repeat a show you've already seen, or do you want to go in blind? I didn't want to set ground-rules because this is a thought-experiment and we each get to reason it out in our own way, based on what we love about Phish and the Phish experience.
Also, I'm loving some of the answers, especially the less obvious ones (though why I didn't think of Cypress, I don't know).
1984-12-01and for Dead- any Warfield 20th anniversary show for the acoustic then 2 regular sets.
This One!!!
