Going to see moe. this Thursday

cactoid Permalink
cactoid Pretty pumped!

I have heard such great things about this band - will I feel an incredible desire to drop my whole life and pursue them across the country?

Because that happened once with this other band I listen to, and it's pretty hard to master.

gtrips Dan - If you weren't going to do it for Phish or The Grateful Dead - do it for moe.
Never seen a bad show - seen lots of INCREDIBLE ones - so go.
HIGH energy; sometimes silly, mostly originals, some great covers once in a while.
Score: 1

gtrips Permalink
gtrips I am listening to them RIGHT NOW - a show from 2001/02/16 _ Austin Texas, and in the middle of a song called Faker - they break out Jane's Addiction - and do it jammy. Nice. SO versatile.

I'll be there as well. Saw them in Boston back in March and I don't really know much of their material but still had a blast. I didn't get hooked the way I did with Phish, but I talked to plenty of people around me who said they had 50+ shows under their belt.
Does anyone know what the deal is with Lupo's about smoking?

BigPimpinNYC Permalink
I find they can be a little more hit and miss than Phish but when they are on they are awesome.
Score: 1

Abrahm Permalink
Abrahm moe. is excellent. I've actually seen exponentially more moe. shows than Phish

:::ducks for cover:::

Score: 2

ucpete Permalink
ucpete I have seen moe. about 30 times, Phish only 24. Mainly due to the fact that my show-seeing prime was from 2002 - 2006 : /

If you like jamming, you won't be disappointed. A lot of their songs have a poppier base than Phish, but it's all good.

mjrphishhead Saw my first show at the Ryman for their Halloween show. UNREAL!!! You will have a great time. I believe @Kurtzboy endorses the band as well. Have fun!
Score: 0

daveritz18 Permalink
daveritz18 Saw moe. for the 1st time @ one of the Furthur Fests in like 97' or 98' and have seen them altogether probably 10-15x--excellent fun but not on the large scale of Phish--Like someone above said-probably my second fav band, but I wouldn't go through the extremes I do for Phish tickets, for them. I try to catch them whenever they come to Central/western NY but thats as far as I would travel. Saw them twice within the last couple weeks and they were fun shows

This dude is right. Moe has my endorsement. 10/26 was one of the best shows I've seen by anyone in recent history. Have a great time, all who are going.

cactoid Permalink
cactoid So they were one of the most incredible bands I have ever seen - didn't know a single song though. They actually seem a LITTLE derivative of Phish, but I think thats because they also sit in the 'prog rock jam band thing' . They are all monstrously, jaw droppingly talented musicians, and the fact that there is ANOTHER band this good on top of the others I've discovered is just proof that the world is a wonderful place to live.

First impressions:

1) "Every part of the jam is my favorite part of the jam"
2) The drummer is the heart, the guitarist on the left is the brain, the guitarist on the right is the soul, the vibes/aux percussionist is the courage, and the bassist is the Jerry

Def going to try and catch them in Worcester
Score: 3

TheEmu I'm kinda jelly, I really love moe. Was getting into them hardcore...then Phish got back together.

Second tune set II last night was one I requested, as Chuck (guitarist on the left) tweeted he wanted suggestions. So I'll go ahead and believe that "Wind It Up" was for me. (Be on my side, I'll be on your side.)

Also looks like you got a fat Brent Black, so they stole your face and you missed the show.

One suggestion, @cactoid, is to pick up Warts and All Vol. 5 (recorded in Des Moines). The first disc especially is MONEY. I have listened to that Captain America -> She, Y.O.Y. -> George a million times. George is probably my favorite moe. tune, after Rebubula, of course.

OK, sorry to geek out on moe. Glad you enjoyed it! They are awesome!

George is easily my favorite song. I could listen to it's outro jam all day.

That tune ("Be on my side" ;) was incredible. Its really cool seeing a band that awesome from like 6 feet away for $30. Take my money please. Gonna try to see them in Worcester with Kung Fu, and maybe again with Dopapod, because I've heard great things about both of those bands too.

Never in Des Moines. Both of the shows I've seen were in Council Bluffs, at Harrah's (outdoor) in 2007 and Horseshoe Casino (basically in a bar) in 2008.

They did, however, stop at the gas station/truck stop in Grimes that I was working at in 1996/1997. I didn't really know much about them at that point. A guy came in with a moe. sticker on his mug, and I asked him if he was into moe. He said, "I'm with moe.," and pointed outside to the bus. lol.
