Local elections...

MiguelSanchez Anybody have anything more local they are looking at?

It's not really local, but I went out and cast my ballot against that swine mourdoch!!

johnnyd Really nothing that interesting around here (IMO) this cycle. For governor, the challenger is actually a pretty strong candidate. Exceptional administrator, but hurt by politically pandering to his base on the social issues. The incumbent has been doing a very good job. As such, "Two more years! Two more years!"
Hmm. That doesn't really ring out.

The down-ticket races - just some really boring people who have been wholly unable to communicate why one might be better than the other. Might as well be throwing darts at some of these. Again, all IMO.

Yeah, I'm just going to be embarrassed for the state of Indiana if he wins.

walstib We have a nationally interesting local race in CT. Linda McMahon vs. Chris Murphy for a very important seat.

I know a lot of people consider the Presidential race a choice between 2 evils. This is even worse then that. Murphy has done everything possible to justify removing him from office. Linda is the devil. Tough choice.

cupuscakus Linda McMahon could be running against George Bush and I would STILL vote against her. She's a f***ing idiot.

Jayem Permalink
Jayem @Walstib I agree. I really dislike Linda but Murphy has really gone "carrer politician" since getting the seat 6 years ago.

I can't even imagine the amount of money those two spent trying to kill each other. Every day I have some elaborate mailer in my mail box from both of them. What a wast of paper.

mathemagician Sherrod Brown vs. John Husted is going to be a test of how much money really matters. I think Brown will win despite all the money being spent against him.

On a much more local level: Chris Chmiel for Athens County Commissioner. He's a nice guy and has a really cool farm. They make some awesome goat cheese. If that's not a reason to vote for someone, I don't know what is.

Drgordy Permalink
Drgordy Gay marriage in Maine is big this year. The legislature passed it a few years back and it was repealed by a citizen initiative in 2004 I believe. It's now back on the ballot again.

Some pretty important US senate and house tickets re running as well. Looks like democrats and a independent will win.

Other than that its just a bunch of bond questions to borrow money for roads, schools, sewers, etc...

TheElectricMayhem Permalink
TheElectricMayhem We have a couple interesting state ballot initiatives in Massachusetts. One is for legalizing medicinal marijuana and the other is for "death with dignity", allowing a physician licensed in Massachusetts to prescribe medication, at the request of a terminally-ill patient meeting certain conditions, to end that person’s life. Many communities also have a non-binding question that asks state legislators to support a resolution for 1) a constitutional amendment affirming corporations are not entitled to the constitutional rights of human beings, and 2) Congress and state governments may limit political contributions and spending.

Side note: a recent Massachusetts Governor who is running for President is predicted to lose his home state by 15-20 points today. We know Mr. Romney too well.

And whats the deal with Phone Books? Why can't I sign up to not get a phone book? I tell you why, its cause they need claim to their advertisers that they distributed a certain number of copies. This is the worlds largest waste of paper. Stop the madness! At least give me the choice to not get one. I have the friggin internet!

Year, I hear you. Interesting items on the MA ballot this year. I'm torn on the assisted suicide piece. Lots of good points both ways that I feel strongly about.

Speaking of Romney - the dude set up at the Boston Convention Center. The whole ordeal is closing down a major road in downtown Boston, about a stones throw from my work and the EXACT ROUTE I take home. Why can't they have their election night conventions out in the middle of nowhere??
