Voting Scandals

Jimmymac03 Permalink
Jimmymac03 Just browsing the news while bored at work and I am already seeing a stupid amount of voting issues coming up. Florida is a mess. An election worker in Oregon has been fired for changing ballots in the GOP's favor. A voting machine in PA was caught on video selecting Romney when the user clearly chose Obama. Long lines and huge waits for people all across the country.

Add to the mix the reports for months now about business owners intimidating their employees to vote their way and we have ourselves a mess folks.

This leaves me with zero hope in our voting system. It is a mess. We should be ashamed.

Yes this is a rant, I am aware of that.

walstib The shame is when the Phish message board sounds exactly like the 24 hours news networks unnecessary premature panic.

BernardShakey Disheartening. I'm already disaffected though. I may just go build a cabin and live in the wild or something.

No panic here. Just calmly shaking my head at this system I am supposed to be so proud to be a part of.

My mistake. I didn't read "zero hope" and "ashamed" of our voting process as calmly shaking your head. You might want to try different phrases to express calmness.

no system is perfect. What matters is that we have the ability to vote, something that most in the world do not. also keep in mind that voting is more accurate than ever, can you imagine how easy it would have been to change ballots/vote twice/ throw out votes in the year 1900? It only seems worse now because it can be noticed early and quickly, and information can be spread about it with social media. It will get better over time. Let's just hope it doesn't change the outcome, or less we end up with a florida 2000 nightmare.

Exactly my point though. I also feel that for every issue we do pick up on, every cheater caught, every machine malfunction, etc, there are even more issues no one is noticing.

I get your point about it being better today then ever, but that doesn't make me feel any better TBH. It just means everyone has always been trying to cheat the system. Why can't we stand up and be proud and let true un-tampered with democracy win the day.

Too idealistic I know. It is my weakness.

looks like another person has never used touchscreens before. Click 2 cm down and it'll work like all other outdated touchscreen tech
Actually if you read the article about this particular machine it showed that it was not just a calibration issue. All other points worked perfect except when you clicked Obama, it selected Romney.

Voting issues were much worse earlier in our history.......read about Tammany Hall from the mid 19th century to the early twentieth century and you'll realize we've come a long way.

walstib This wasn't an issue. There was no need for panic. I'd say the USA managed to tabulate 100 million votes rather flawlessly and should proud of itself, not ashamed.

See how nice it is to wait till the election is over to report on it. Not even Fox feels the voting was unfair. That would make this thread more delusional then Fox.
