You should try it if somehow you hadn't either.
That is all.
it's a CD-length collection of my favorite NON-FESTIVAL soundchecks, recorded between 1993 and 2000. the tracklist:
1) Glen Falls Jam (10/31/94, with Star Wars 'Luke & Leia Theme' tease from Trey)
2) Arcata Jam >
3) Dog Log > Jam (3/28/93, with full-band 'Beverly Hills Cop' theme tease)
4) Miss You >
5) Take Me To The River (4/9/93, with Can't You Hear Me Knocking ending)
6) Vancouver Jam >
7) Leprechaun >
8) The Wedge (8/24/93, original Wedge arrangement... the jam sounds like a proto-Meat)
9) The Buffalo Soundcheck Song! (9/14/00)

I listened to that Leprechaun check for a little bit and noticed that the opening riff sounds a like Free, is that possibly why they stopped playing Leprechaun/where the Free riff came from?
6) Vancouver Jam >
7) Leprechaun >
8) The Wedge (8/24/93, original Wedge arrangement... the jam sounds like a proto-Meat)
Love it.
@Roofless_Sheds said:You got it. I think Leprechaun was written along with Guyute and My Friend, My Friend after Trey was inspired by a trip to Ireland (I think that's where his mother lives now, actually). I could be wrong, but I always thought that after they killed the song, the riff was salvaged, then tweaked into more of a rock anthem-type riff.I listened to that Leprechaun check for a little bit and noticed that the opening riff sounds a like Free, is that possibly why they stopped playing Leprechaun/where the Free riff came from?

Back in the dark days of the breakup, Trey and 70 Volt Parade played a show in Philly that was broadcasted on the radio and streamed online. During that tour, Trey would play a mini-acoustic set featuring all sorts of Phish songs. He started playing what sounded like that opening Leprechaun run, and I remember getting incredibly excited, and then realized it was Free. Don't get me wrong -- I love Free, despite its relative staleness over the last decade -- but Leprechaun would easily be my choice for Phish bustout.
Anyway, yeah, that 8/24/93 Vancouver soundcheck is one of my favorites. Wedge has the same jazzy arrangement as the more-famous version in Red Rocks four days prior. And the opening soundcheck jam belongs on the list of top August '93 moments, for sure.
just posted this yesterday... i just threw this together this weekend to have a CD for the car, but upon repeated listening, it accidentally turned out to be one of the best Phish compilations i've ever made!Thank you!
