The diversity and placements and sound to me is really the only thing that can compare to the string of awesome ghosts in 1997/98.
Were there any other tours that the song was played that many times, so well?

And yes 12 Has probably been the best year for the song since the reunion. But certainly can't hold a candle to any years prior to the reunion.

99Really? You like the ghosts from 03 and 04 more? The ghosts from this year were all so different and so great. Am I missing an awesome version or something, because I can't think of any off the top of my head from those years.

I listened to the Ghost from Alpine 97 today. It is on the Alpine Sample Disc that came with the 2010 DVD. Now that's a fine Ghost! I remember thinking that any time Ghost was played, it made the show. Not the case anymore. It has deterioated into the new "Mike's Song".
03 and 04 were way better!

I haven't heard a Ghots in 3.0 that I've liked yet (I've listened to all of them). Some might start out strong, but they all fizzle-out!Charlotte 11 and MSG 2010 didn't fizzle at all.....

Worcester 03 kills any Ghost from 3.0
while a controversial comment...i must say that the progression of ghost over many years has been toward less and less patience on the part of the band for getting into and out of ghost...more rushed....less time letting it just breathe and grow...strictly my 2 cents...not trying to come off like i have all the facts...that is just my earPerhaps, but even if so I think 2012 has been a huge step forward for Ghost, much like OP

The hit / miss ratio has been higher for Ghost in 2012 compared to the rest of 3.0, with strong versions fitting very nicely into the flow of some outstanding sets.
The difference between 2012 and '97-'98 (and even '99-'00) is that back then Ghost was often a standout peak in an impressive show, as opposed to being one of the "...and don't overlook this" secondary highlights.

@pflaumja said:Just relistened to the MSG Ghost and I will agree that it doesn't fizzle out, however, the structure of Ghost in 3.0 is pale in comparison to how it used to be. The MSG Ghost was pretty good, but it became a guitar vehicle as opposed to a bass laden machine. It reminded me more of a Reba or Bathtub style jam (which I am very fond of and totally enjoy). But when it comes to Ghost, I want that nasty, exploding bass-driven ride that used to be provided. I simply prefer the groove oriented style better for that particular song.I haven't heard a Ghots in 3.0 that I've liked yet (I've listened to all of them). I kind of view it like this: The old Ghost would be something that you would listen in your car as you drove down the road late at night. Dark and nasty. 3.0 Ghost would be something that you would listen in your car driving early in the morning as the sun was coming up. The start of a beautiful day. Two different situations that call for two different styles.
Not sure if this is making a lot of sense to anyone, but that's just the vibe I get. I guess I like it dark and nasty!
BTW- not big fan of the IT Ghost either. I agree that it is too long and does't realy go anywhere for a long period of time.
To each his own!
