(brief bio)
I've been a Phish fan since...oh, about 2008 or so and was fortunate enough to see them in their 2009 tour etc. My love of Phish has inspired me to be a musician so I went though 4 years of music school (I'm a pianist) and soon going into graduate work for orchestral conducting.
I plan on doing a study of Harry Hood for my band's blog and would like some suggestions on which versions to listen to (ex- 10.21.95 etc) and learn from. The finish product will probably be posted sometime in January.
My ears are open!
My band is Glass Cannon

ALOWith all due respect (and with all due respect to the ALO Hood), with Hood I don't think you can really offer one version and say "end thread".

Plus the OP is looking for more than one version.
Two of my favorite favorites have already been mentioned: 12/30/95 and 12/31/93.
Several recent versions I have enjoyed more than most enjoyed: 8/15/12, 8/15/11, 6/4/11, and 9/2/12
Several recent versions I have enjoyed more than most enjoyed: 8/15/12, 8/15/11, 6/4/11, and 9/2/12
Some more good Hoods:
4/22/90
4/30/94
11/10/95
3/18/97
8/16/98
4/22/90
4/30/94
11/10/95
3/18/97
8/16/98
7/16/94 Sugarbush, available at livephish.com
7/1/95 Great Woods
12/5/95 UMass
12/31/98 MSG for the crazy intro jam
I want to mention 8/15/12 Long Beach again - I will be campaigning for this one to be added to the jamming chart.
Darien Lake, NY 1997- (24 mins or something)
NYE 1993, Awesome version.
The two portsmouth shows were amazing from the stage antics, to the amazing variations of songs. Like the party time (with one of the great country horns), or this hood> wtu, or the maze with a lightsaber. Mexican cousin was something I had been wanting for a while and just turns out they come out in sombreros, f***ing hilarious. One of my favorite parts of summer with @wookiephart and @philletmignon. Sorry had to rant about how no one talks about these shows ever.
Best hoods IMO:
11/16/96
12/18/10(first hood ever so #1 in my books, plus musically it was beyond epic)
12/31/93
10/21/95
7/31/03 Camden and really like the Hood> Have Mercy> Hood from Blossom 2011
All great suggestions. Here's one that's somewhat different from most.
6/2/09 - Jones Beach
6/2/09 - Jones Beach
also: don't sleep on the Clifford Ball Hood > Fireworks Jam!
4/4/98 island tour hasn't been mentioned either
I can't speak to all Hoods as I've not heard every one, but Worcester 2010 is my favorite.
All great suggestions. Here's one that's somewhat different from most.I love that version
6/2/09 - Jones Beach

You should collect every Hood recorded and do a comparison chart. I'd be all about checking it out.

i want to once again advocate for 7/16/94
12/31/93 - The last 5-6 minutes will literally take your breath away. Phish had arrived.
10/23/94 - A Live One Version with two drum breaks/peaks
A 2.0 Dark Horse (kind of - a lot of people are in the know regarding this version but still...):
7/31/03 - I saw it live and loved it then. Listened back on a quality recording, it will win you over. Really different, creative sounds in the middle and they were locked in.
Enjoy dude.
