Please play Train Song
Train songs the shit one of my favorite slow songs PLEASE
Train Song! Never had one, not in 66 shows. It's time!
All the way home we felt we had a chance
To review the coulds before we were born
And to invite a new game of can'ts
Absorbed in the clouds a voice from afar said
"With the right device you can make a pattern grow
Or you can tune up your car"
So we stayed on the train admiring the time
As the lights of the city drew near
We drank a little wine
They were blurry and green outer space in between
With a depth and a form unclear
Then we saw it up ahead
A flickering lantern lit up on the tracks
In the rugs that had covered up the bridge
From the banks of a river to the bed
Of the valley upstream to the place we live
The glass on the lantern cast back the sight
Of a drive-in movie we drove by below
We saw where we'd been in the pictures within
Projecting all the places we would go
So we follow the scene and flowed up your steps
To a smooth wooden floor in a trance
The train whistle melody woved through the trees
And in through the door to signal the turns of a dance
To a smooth wooden floor in a trance
The train whistle melody woved through the trees
And in through the door to signal the turns of a dance
Some of my favorite phish lyrics
I still don't know how you leave a song that good (Strange Design) off an album. Not that Guyute isn't a great tune in it's own right either, just saying.
Train song huh, just thinking bout NYE.

Train song is one of my favorite phish songs. Love it.
That happened to me one night on the Oregon coast, with Train Song. My friend and I took the day off to go to the beach and were driving back at night towards Portland via 101. Train Song came on as we drew close to Astoria, at the mouth of the Columbia River:
All the way home we felt we had a chance
To review the coulds before we were born
And to invite a new game of can'ts
Absorbed in the clouds a voice from afar said
"With the right device you can make a pattern grow
Or you can tune up your car
So far, so good. Great day at the coast, spiritual freedom, we're driving...
So we stayed on the train admiring the time
As the lights of the city drew near
We drank a little wine
The lights of the city were the lights of Astoria across the water at night. We'd had a few microbrews and smoked a bit earlier that afternoon, and were pleasantly blissed and mellow.
They were blurry and green outer space in between
With a depth and a form unclear
Then we saw it up ahead
A flickering lantern lit up on the tracks
In the rugs that had covered up the bridge
From the banks of a river to the bed
Of the valley upstream to the place we live
We crossed the bridge over the bay and entered Astoria, then headed upstream on the Columbia towards home.
Tell me those aren't some of Phish's best lyrics. What a way to glide home after a fantastic day outside.
Thanks for letting me get all personal. Train Song is one of my favorites and the timing of that song on that trip couldn't have been better. I still remember how my friend and I just drove without speaking, listening to the song and looking out the windows as though the world were being born anew, and just for us.
@careful_w_that_axe_Miller - I saw something like 30 shows from 97 til the hiatus in 00. I saw Guyute every 3rd show and I got sick of it as it frequently got butchered in 99 & 00. It's like TTE - an amazing composition, but IMHO, better suited to what Trey does with an orchestra. But yes, when it's nailed, it's awesome. Problem is, to nail a tune like Guyute, it pretty much needs to be in heavy rotation (like any of their heavy composed tunes, especially cause they don't play much anymore), which, to me, is kinda like, been there/done that in the late nineties. Anyways, I think ya missed my point, which was just that Train Song seemed more appropriate for The Story of the Ghost album, Strange Design should've been on Billy Breathes and Guyute seemed more appropriate for Hoist. Sorry to hijack your thread, I'm bored at work.
Train Song, Billy Breathes, Waste (wtf has this been?), Anything But Me, Strange Design, etc.
Signed on bringing it back. In general I wish they would mix up the slow songsThe AC BIlly Breathes is really good. Listen if you haven't already

My buddy who died this past year loved this song and the first show we attended together, 6/10/09, we heard it. Great song, love to hear it. His last show was MSG NYE last year as well. Not to be a downer, but if they play it at MSG, I will definitely be thinking about him.

Love that version, and am glad to have shared it with you and your friend. Hope you get one at MSG.
I have A LOT of trouble not singing "you can tune a guitar" instead of "you can tune up your car". Not sure why.The guitar line does fit if you look at it.
I am one of the few of my friends calling for it..........
im pretty sure the indio acoustic was my only one.
MSG the 30th second set sounds about right.
