Probation

Herbdacious Permalink
Herbdacious Anyone on here ever been unfortunate enough to get on probation. I got sentenced to 3 years Misdemeanor today. Never been on it. If anyone has. Let me know some tips on getting through this.

And I don't mean on getting away with smoking/drugs.

Will I be able to get away with touring a couple days outta the summer?

Rutherford_B_Raves Stay strong brother. im sure a lot of us on here have been in your exact situation, some even worse, myself included. My advice is to find a hobby to fill all the down time you would have spent "using". free time usually leads to boredom and, at least for me, boredom leads to drug use. my advice is stay 100% sober the whole time. no feeling from any drug is worth giving up your freedom. As for the touring, i would say as long as you don't jeopardize any of your conditions of probation to see a show then your good to go. I was on probation and wasn't suppose to leave the state but managed to see almost 7 Dark Star Orchestra shows all out of state because i knew when i had to report and i knew when i needed to be in town but i cant say its a good idea because no matter how safe i felt it was still risking my freedom. main point being, stay sober, stay busy and stay strong. nothing in life lasts forever

OliveLoaf Just got finished with my two years at the end of september. I saw 15 shows while on probation. They told me I was supposed to let them know if I left the state, but I never once did, and they never caught me. They also never came to my house to check up on me or anything. I'm assuming the worse your crime, the harder it's going to be to get away with things. Just stay out of trouble (especially on tour), three years will go by fast enough and you'll be glad when it's over.

careful_w_that_axe_Miller You are in the system. Be careful. It varies county to county, probation officer to probation officer. I would recommend trying very hard to get on good terms with your PO. At some point before the 36 months is up, as soon as 6 months, assuming you pay fines, restitution, and complete community service: tell your PO that you have an opportunity for a job out of state, "is there anyway I could find remedy for my current situation"

I was to do 24 months probation, off in 3; no lawyer and no slight of hand.

Also, eat lots of asparagus everytime you are supposed to pee in a cup ha ha ha, my urine was always literally dripping thc but be careful as we are all different. Good luck and stay straight bro, if ya f*** up your f***ed.

spanishmoon Pay your fines! As long as you don't f up it should be pretty easy. They want there money! After I payed my fines off my PO back off on how often I had to come in and eventually, after about 7 months, he just told me not to get in trouble and I wouldn't have to come back. I has also failed several piss test, only for pot. He didn't seem to care to much but every PO is different. My friend got locked up for failing a test. Good luck and pay your fines.

You should have no trouble going to see shows next summer. By then hopefully you will only be going to see him once a month. You can either tell him your visiting family out of state or just go, I did.

Drgordy I was on probation for six months back when I was in college. I was arrested at a house party in Boston the night before I turned 21 for underage drinking. The cops came into the house and randomly selected one underage kid for each of the guys that lived in the house. I was sitting on a couch drinking a beer and was selected before I knew they were even in the room. Mug shot, finger printed and locked up for three hours with a dude who stabbed someone. It was fun, we flushed my weed down the toilet.
Anyways, my PO was strictly by the book. She wanted my to call her every Monday morning to check in. Luckily she didn't make me come down and visit in person since I told her I had classes in the morning. I had to call her when I wanted to leave the state, even if I was going home on break. I still did my usual thing of smoking and drinking, I was just extra careful about it. I avoided the house when my roommates threw parties for example. I assume they could have drug tested me but just didn't bother.
My suggestion is to play it cool the first few months. Feel the PO out. Are they by the book or are they more causal. My father was a PO, and I know he had some real scumbags on his caseload that he would bust in a heartbeat. Be nice to them and they will be nice to you. Play by the rules. I suggest if you were fined, assigned community service, or any other stipulations that you get started on it right away. I was assigned community service and before I had met my PO, I had started my community service. It goes a long way if you let them know you are taking this seriously.
