relax_ Album release day, woot! Listening now on Spotify...

Ordered the deluxe LP last night [comes in a numbered edition printed on rainbow foil with a bonus 7" featuring two exclusive covers: I Saw The Light (Todd Rundgren) b/w Move To California (Times New Viking]

Yo La Tengo will be on NBC’s “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon” tonight at 12:30am est. I think they'll be doing some free shows on the west coast at various record shops this week, too.

GreenSparrow Has anyone else seen the Parking Lot Movie? Yo La Tengo's Bassist, James McNew, is in it. It's a fun and interesting documentary if you're looking to kill some time.

buffalo_voice Should be going to see them next week. Haven't seen them in years, looking forward to it. First got into them when I got the album Fakebook on cassette in the early 90s.

The name came from a baseball anecdote. During the 1962 season, New York Mets center fielder Richie Ashburn and Venezuelan shortstop Elio Chacón found themselves colliding in the outfield. When Ashburn went for a catch, he would scream, "I got it! I got it!" only to run into Chacón, who spoke only Spanish. Ashburn learned to yell, "¡Yo la tengo! ¡Yo la tengo!" instead. In a later game, Ashburn happily saw Chacón backing off. He relaxed, positioned himself to catch the ball, and was instead run over by left fielder Frank Thomas, who understood no Spanish and had missed a team meeting that proposed using the words "¡Yo la tengo!" as a way to avoid outfield collisions. After getting up, Thomas asked Ashburn, "What the heck is a Yellow Tango?".

That is a brutal touring schedule for those old dudes...

Midcoaster They don't disappoint. Seeing them in the Paradise, Maxwell's, Alladin Theater, nice little venues like that is a real treat. It's been a few years since I've seen them, but they always warm me from my toes to my nose. "And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out" is one of my favorite albums of all time. "May I Sing with Me" is one of my favorite EPs, too.

i was in carrboro last night

acoustic first set that was a little slow admittely but absolutely beautiful, i loved it

second set was a rawker no doubt, expect a mix of catchy tunes with a host of noise jams

Sweet, thank you for this! My show is next month and we don't have an opening band listed. I really hope we get a similar format (2 sets, acoustic & electric).

@myMomaDontDance, yes...but I'm biased, you know, haha.

@Midcoaster, that's awesome. I've never seen them outside of a festival setting. The venue they're playing here (in MI) is only half sold, I believe, so it should be an intimate experience. I'm so geeked!

myMomaDontDance So do they do a lot of covers usually? I'm listening to their cover of "The Last Time" right now. Definitely like what I'm hearing

Yeah, they like to sprinkle them in for sure. I notice that they like to do regional stuff, like doing that Grateful Dead cover in San Francisco. The times I've seen them in Detroit they've covered MC5 and The Temptations.

Every year on WFMU in New Jersey they do a fundraiser show live on the air where people can call and for a donation of a certain amount of money, you can request a cover song by the band. These covers can turn out anywhere from mind blowing to really f***ing terrible. They put out an album of stuff from it a few years ago.
