Yo La Tengo will be on NBC’s “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon” tonight at 12:30am est. I think they'll be doing some free shows on the west coast at various record shops this week, too.
What is it?
The name came from a baseball anecdote. During the 1962 season, New York Mets center fielder Richie Ashburn and Venezuelan shortstop Elio Chacón found themselves colliding in the outfield. When Ashburn went for a catch, he would scream, "I got it! I got it!" only to run into Chacón, who spoke only Spanish. Ashburn learned to yell, "¡Yo la tengo! ¡Yo la tengo!" instead. In a later game, Ashburn happily saw Chacón backing off. He relaxed, positioned himself to catch the ball, and was instead run over by left fielder Frank Thomas, who understood no Spanish and had missed a team meeting that proposed using the words "¡Yo la tengo!" as a way to avoid outfield collisions. After getting up, Thomas asked Ashburn, "What the heck is a Yellow Tango?".

That is a brutal touring schedule for those old dudes...

One band that might actually be better than Phish.The argument can be made....
Trey wishes:At the beginning of the video I was wondering how that guitar got so beat up. By the end I knew.

i was in carrboro last night
acoustic first set that was a little slow admittely but absolutely beautiful, i loved it
second set was a rawker no doubt, expect a mix of catchy tunes with a host of noise jams

@myMomaDontDance, yes...but I'm biased, you know, haha.
@Midcoaster, that's awesome. I've never seen them outside of a festival setting. The venue they're playing here (in MI) is only half sold, I believe, so it should be an intimate experience. I'm so geeked!
Has anyone else seen the Parking Lot Movie? Yo La Tengo's Bassist, James McNew, is in it. It's a fun and interesting documentary if you're looking to kill some time.Great movie...highly recommend
So do they do a lot of covers usually? I'm listening to their cover of "The Last Time" right now. Definitely like what I'm hearingYeah, they like to sprinkle them in for sure. I notice that they like to do regional stuff, like doing that Grateful Dead cover in San Francisco. The times I've seen them in Detroit they've covered MC5 and The Temptations.
Every year on WFMU in New Jersey they do a fundraiser show live on the air where people can call and for a donation of a certain amount of money, you can request a cover song by the band. These covers can turn out anywhere from mind blowing to really f***ing terrible. They put out an album of stuff from it a few years ago.
