Second that, best show to ever air IMO and it has ruined evey other cop or investigation show that I have tries to watch since... They just don't live up to the greatness of the wire. Season two is my favorite love the sobodkas

Chilly It sure is up there, quite possibly the greatest of all time. I have definitely called it that before...there may be one or two shows that compare, but for different reasons and in different genres. I really think Sopranos is up there too, along with a few other shows, but The Wire is definitely top 3, and quite possibly #1.

Incredible show, every person I have convinced to watch it also thinks its the greatest show. Never heard a single complaint only the highest praise from everyone I've ever talked to that watched it.

"You come at the king, you best not miss"

EDIT: I think you will also find that the .net community thinks very highly of The Wire and a LOT of members love that show. I feel like the majority of people (not .net) have NOT seen it, so it's pretty much .net has a great taste in music and television.

I'm not one for claiming "best evers," but its probably my favorite ever. Definitely near the top, if not right there.

@the_Crested_Hogchoker - so what's the money line on the East-West basketball game this year?

bakestar08 sign'd Never seen real world street life depicted this accurately in a fiction. Hated when his NBC show Homicide got canceled but see now that he had a vision then for a show that cable couldn't handle. Best seen has to be Omar testifying against Bird in court or When Bunk and Mcnulty work a murder scene only using the word f*** or motherfucker...brilliant

I don't know, but those AAU child-pimps are becoming a source of concern for a lot of people.

i think one of the main reasons is because it went from the gritty streets to the docks and this threw people off. i agree though. I absolutely loved the character of Frank Sobotka. a true tragic hero

Yes! Some of my fav moments:

S1: The f**k scene with Bunk and McNulty. Priceless
S2: Best boob shot ever on TV. Seriously.

I live in Baltimore, in fact the scene in S3 when Chris and Snoop are teaching the youngins how to shoot is literally in my front yard. And the dogs in the scene belong to my neighbors!

johnnyd I think 2 is by far the worst season.
Tony Soprano Reincarnate is bearable, but his kid and nephew are flat out hard to watch. Horrible casting and acting on those two, imo. I'd have a hard time choosing between 1, 3, and 4 as a favorite, I think.

MDosque Permalink
MDosque Fantastic show - I would go as far to say that it is an extremely accurate historical depiction of life in a major US city at the turn of the century. I worked in social services in Philly at the time and Baltimore is kind of like a mini Philly in a lot of ways. I prefer the more cerebral later seasons where the creators really tackle education, juvenile justice system, press, politics, etc. Deep stuff all around. LOVE the show.

I would have to disagree with you on saying season two is the worst. It held me a lot more than four or five. I think the nephew, Nicky, was a great acting job. My cousin lives in that section of Bulletmore, Muderland and said it is pretty accurate. She said most bars are trash that she thinks are just fronts.

ckess22 Permalink
ckess22 It's a great show; the greatest ever? not imo. I've always enjoyed shows like Mad Men just as much, if not more. Watching in hindsight after the original airings, the best two shows I've seen (judged by how quickly I had to get through it) would be Lost and The Wire. Homeland is kicking my ass right now though. Anyhow, the Wire was awesome.

johnnyd I dont know about the episode guides, sometimes that might reveal stuff you'd rather figure out.

But we heavily relied on the English-to-Wire Translator feature (aka the english subtitle option on the dvds) to figure out what the hell they were all saying, especially the first bunch of episodes before we got used to the dialect and accents.

I don't have the DVDs I got the torrents offline instead of paying for then so I didn't have that option. The guides worked for me me until I nailed the characters

I'll add Snoop, Marlo Stanfield and Chris Partlow's (the gang leader and hitman/enforcer's) helper in Seasons 3 - 5. Snoop was a Baltimore street person recruited to play her real life role. According to her memoir, "Grace After Midnight", the bit about picking up her first gun as a third grader when a hitman slid it across the gutter and winked at her was drawn from her real life. She knew at that age having a gun was important.

"the most frightening villain ever to appear in a television series..."
