If you're going to delete my post...

A comment by me_no_are_no_nice_guy was voted down. Show anyway

careful_w_that_axe_Miller Hell ya. But I truly don't give a fcuk about mods, I refuse to mod others less a pt dude yesterday for laughs.

I went from 0 comments voted invisible to 18 in like 3 days. If you get modded, an explanation should come next especially if its the MOD of mass destruction;mmd

benevolution When a post gets -5 votes, it gets hidden, not deleted. I agree that no single post should get more than -5. I've never tried, but is it even possible to vote a post down after its already been hidden? I know you can click "view it anyway" but can it still be voted down further at that point? I've never seen a -6 or worse for a single post. That would be unfair, I agree, but I think the -5 should stay, not get wiped away.

careful_w_that_axe_Miller Yes, cause it can get voted up. My most number of negetives ? Is like 15 but I got 23 - +1's on the same comment, it was my most controversial comment

I'm not talking about posts that are removed because they were voted down. I'm talking about posts that mods delete.

ah, well then yes I agree with you. If the general community can't even see the post that got you all those down votes, then the points should not be counted against you. I actually didn't know a mod could completely delete a post altogether. Shows how much I know! I actually don't like the thought of anyone deciding what we can or cannot see. I can see the logic in hiding something that has offended people, so that a user would have to actually "opt in" to view it, sort of like the "show spoilers" thingie, but deleting something altogether so that no one can view it even if they want to, that I think is wrong.

harroldHOOD I don't see your logic. (hypothetically) you say something offensive, it causes you to get voted down, the mods see it and determine it violates Terms of Use, so they delete it....why shouldn't that count against you?

It's this system of moderation that holds the anonymous trolls accountable for what they post and gives our community better content because most people (probably not you) think before they post something and how it will it will be perceived by everyone on the boards.

MiguelSanchez I just wouldn't worry worry about plus or minuses. If you can stand by what you said, you should be cool w/ it. I have misspoken on here, and I manned up and apologized. I've been voted down, and I stood by my comments because I believed them to be true.

Get over it...

then don't make me keep the down vote I got for it. Any votes up or down should be wiped away when a post is deleted. Can I get a hell yah??!
am i reading that you want a "do-over" because it was bad enough to get deleted...like a -4 is ok, but a -5 is bad enough to cancel out?

is this some kind of new new math?

/huh?

johnnyd I'll go out on a limb here and guess that nobody is going to take the time coding any incremental changes to the voting system at this point, especially to favor someone who posted something so egregious that it was hidden.
I'd also suggest that people shouldn't take the voting too seriously.
Finally, I'd suggest that when posts get voted down, its pretty rare that it is arbitrary. If you are upset or otherwise affected by the fact that your posts are consistently being voted down or hidden, that's on you. Not the community or admin team.

@TheEmu is right - posts can be and have been deleted by any member of the site team. It's pretty rare. For the record, he and I are way on the permissive side in terms of "adminning with a light touch." Much of the rest of the team encourages us to remind certain users that posting here is a privilege, not a right, and to deal with users that want to push our buttons by banning them outright with no questions asked.

The two of us, being more heavily present in the forum, are more willing to recognize the positive things that everyone can bring despite an occasional lack of judgement, and as such, count on the community to ignore worthless posts coming from known sources, up to a certain point. But this is a private site (hosted by an organization who's primary constituency is children), and we absolutely reserve the right to decide what is appropriate and what is not, and respond accordingly.

As a courtesy, if it is not overwhelmingly obvious why we hid a post or closed a thread, we may offer an explanation at the end of the thread or via PM. But if you can't figure out why we don't want tales of dead Latina hookers, a graphic picture of a guy spewing his guts out, or detailed stories of self pleasure posted here, I doubt we can adequately explain it, and we're not going to waste our time trying.

All that said, we are well aware that approximately 98% of our dotnet crew totally gets this and generally kicks all sorts of ass.

Personally I love getting fcuking paddled, it means your making a difference. Ha ha
