Fake Ebay tickets & great tips for spotting fakes

12Next →View All

katie0801 Permalink
I just decided create this thread because of the ton of fake tickets that are on ebay right now and for the possibility of fake tickets that will be sold on the day of the event.

EBAY: A bunch of people are bidding hundred of dollars on Ebay tickets. You are all getting fooled! DON’T BID! Especially if there are pictures of the tickets because they weren't even shipped yet! While ebay and paypal seem safe, they are not. Ebay may refund you your money, but thats it, they don't come after sellers because it is really difficult to get these people in any real trouble. The most Ebay would do is cancel their account. As long as these sellers don't buy anything, they can put a fake address. Many even steal others accounts.

I have personally been a victim to fake tickets I bought from somebody off the street last year. And right now the tickets I happen to have seen on EBAY look very familiar if not exactly like the fake tickets i've recieved.

I have studied my pair of fake tickets very closely. So, some tips for people who plan to get lucky with some REAL tickets the day of the shows to avoid spending a TON of money on stubhub:

For Ticketmaster tickets:
1. Blue backround- The easiest way to tell is to hold the ticket up to the light. If the backround glows blue it is most likely real. I have Never bought a ticketmaster ticket that didn't have a blue background. If it doesn't don't buy!

2. Comma- Many of the fake tickets out there right now have a COMMA in the date listed on the front of the ticket at the bottom. Do not buy a ticket that has a comma! No Ticketmaster ticket ever has a comma! For example, Fake ticket: MON DEC 31, 2012. Real Ticket: MON DEC 31 2012

3. Barcode- any minor glitch of any kind is fake. Any slight run of ink or dent. The barcode is always perfectly straight and clean.

4. the 1x- or whatever number x at the top right of the ticket. The number is random so it could be any number 1x, 5x, 30x whatever it means. It is always located right under the event code on the top right. The fake tickets I’ve seen has this missing, or located further down on the ticket.

5. Pixilated Small wording and image on the back- Although hard to focus on, look as closely as you can. If the ticket is fake, the small red words will have tiny blue pixels surrounding it. There should be no fuzzy pixilation of any kind. Same with the image, any fuzzy pixels are a sign of a fake ticket.

6. Overlapping words on front are ok- Ticketmaster commonly has words jumbled & overlapping. This is OK. For example, the words GA overlapping the words section/aisle. If the wording is too clean and not overlapping at all, this could be a sign of a fake, although not as big of a red flag.

7. Same CN #- Fake ticket makers usually wont go through the trouble of making every ticket unique. So if your buying a pair of tickets or more, the number that should definitely be different in the CN number on the right side of the ticket. If they are the same, the ticket is fake.

8. Bring an old ticket with you!- Preferably a more recent ticket because they changed the style. The newer ones I’ve gotten are grey background with black wording, red details, and black Ticketmaster logo on the right side. This is a great way to compare real and fake tickets.

I just wanted to write all of this for those of you who are unaware as to how real people can make tickets look. Its upsetting to see people being ripped off because they just don’t know. Be careful! Study the signs, I know my tips are very accurate! Print this page, study it, and be very ready to study all the details before buying tickets from third parties. GOOD LUCK!

Buying FAQ
What is TicketExchange and how does it work?
TicketExchange is Ticketmaster's new online service that enables fan-to-fan transactions. Buyers simply select the ticket(s) they want based on price and seat location, without having to bid against other buyers, without having to coordinate delivery from anonymous sellers, and without the gamble that the tickets are legitimate.

How do I know the tickets I buy are legitimate?
Only Ticketmaster can guarantee 100% legitimate tickets, because the tickets sold through TicketExchange are linked to Ticketmaster's ticketing systems. If you buy tickets that are sold through a source other than Ticketmaster, you have no way of knowing whether they are counterfeit or have been invalidated. However with Ticketmaster, once you buy a ticket, we cancel the original barcode and assign you a new one, so you have the security of knowing for certain the ticket being delivered to you is valid. Don't be fooled by other website guarantees: there is a lot of fine print and exceptions in those guarantees.

Do I need to contact the seller directly and coordinate payment for tickets in person?
No, Ticketmaster takes care of it for you! We facilitate your TicketExchange transaction, making it simple, safe and secure to buy tickets.

How do I pay for my tickets?
Major credit cards are accepted for payment. Cash, checks and money orders are not accepted. Similarly, as Ticketmaster does not accept gift certificates for online purchases, gift certificates cannot be used for TicketExchange purchases.

How are my tickets delivered?
Depending on the event, Ticketmaster offers TicketFast® or standard UPS ticket delivery options. In some cases, will call may be offered or required. Learn more about TicketFast®.

Can I buy only part of a posting?
All postings count as a single transaction; therefore only the entire posting may be purchased during a sale.

What do I do if tickets aren't posted for an event that I want to attend?
Check back often! We may get many new postings daily. If you're seeking sports tickets, many teams allow season ticket holders to resell their tickets on team-branded sites hosted by Ticketmaster. For a list of those teams, click here.

What fees are associated with buying tickets?
The buyer will pay fees that may be reflected during the purchase process or that may be included and deducted from the amount you see displayed as the resale price of the ticket.

What is the Current Price per ticket?
The "Current Price" includes the Original Price plus any amounts that have been added by the Seller or any Sellers who may have held the ticket before him/her.

Other amounts or fees may also be included in the Current Price, or may be added on top of the Current Price. If additional amounts are added on top of the Current Price, they will be displayed on the website before you complete your purchase.

What happens if an event is cancelled?
Occasionally, events are cancelled, moved or postponed by the promoter, team, band or venue for a variety of reasons, which may include weather conditions or situations affecting the performers, venue, players, staff, other personnel or the audience. If you have purchased a ticket to a cancelled event through TicketExchange, have not resold it through TicketExchange and return it to us as we instruct, then we will make every effort to ensure you receive a prompt refund of the ticket price and associated convenience charge (the per order processing, delivery and handling fees are not refundable) you last paid through TicketExchange for such a ticket. If an event is moved or postponed, sometimes venues, teams, promoters or sponsors of events will issue refunds to ticket holders or ticket purchasers. In such a case, please contact us for exact instructions, and please make sure to include/provide your account number so we can expedite your refund if applicable.

Is there a refund policy?
Ticketmaster generally does not issue exchanges or refunds for purchased tickets, nor do we issue refunds for lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed tickets, or tickets claimed to be "not delivered." However, if the event you are attending is in Illinois and you have purchased a ticket through TicketExchange, you will receive a refund of the amount you paid if: (a) the ticketed event is cancelled (in which case you will not receive a refund of any delivery fees), (b) that ticket does not allow you to enter the ticketed event for reasons that may include, without limitation, that the ticket is counterfeit or that the ticket has been cancelled by the issuer due to non-payment, unless the ticket is cancelled due to an act or omission by you, (c) that ticket fails to conform to its description on this web site, or (d) you failed to receive that ticket. However, you may be able to resell your ticket(s) on TicketExchange if you cannot attend the event. If you have lost a ticket, or if your ticket was stolen, damaged or destroyed, please contact customer service.

joonze here are the selling faq...

Selling FAQ
What is TicketExchange and how does it work?
TicketExchange is Ticketmaster's new online service that enables fan-to-fan transactions. Buyers simply select the ticket(s) they want based on price and seat location, without having to bid against other buyers, without having to coordinate delivery from anonymous sellers, and without the gamble that the tickets are legitimate.

How do I create a Seller Profile?
Creating a Seller Profile is easy! Start by registering at Ticketmaster.com you'll need an email address and your checking account information. Then, just follow the simple instructions on how to complete your Seller Profile.

Why can't I sell tickets for certain events?
Currently, not all event tickets are able to be bought or sold via TicketExchange. Be sure to check back often as new events are continually being added.

Can I post Paperless Tickets for sale on TicketExchange even though they are non-transferable?
Yes. If TicketExchange is available for an event that sells Paperless Tickets, you can post Paperless Tickets for sale.

Please note you cannot pre-determine a buyer for your Paperless Tickets or assign a new name or owner to your Paperless Tickets once you have purchased them. You can only give up/change ownership of your Paperless Tickets by selling them to an anonymous buyer via TicketExchange.

Why do you need my credit card and checking account information?
Your checking account information enables us to directly deposit your proceeds after your tickets are sold and turned in. Additionally, if the event for which you sell a ticket becomes cancelled, then your credit card, and possibly your checking account, may be charged or debited by Ticketmaster to collect reimbursement from you of your sale's proceeds. We require your credit card and checking account information to reduce the risk of fraud on TicketExchange.

What fees are associated with selling tickets?
If your ticket(s) sell, you will receive as your proceeds an amount that equals the posting price you designate minus a seller fee which we will deduct. That seller fee will be displayed to you during the ticket posting process.

How will I know if my tickets were sold?
If your tickets are sold, we will automatically notify you via email. To check on the status of your posted tickets, just log into My Ticketmaster.

What happens if my tickets are not sold?
If your tickets don't sell, they are still valid for use at the event. If you decide to attend the event, you can remove the posting and your tickets will still be valid for your use.

I have two seats next to each other for the same show, but they're not the same price. Can I post these together?
All tickets bundled in a single posting must have the same Original Purchase price. Tickets that have different Original Prices must be posted separately.

What is a State Licensed Seller?
Some states only allow certain sales at certain price levels if they are conducted by state licensed Sellers. In some circumstances, we may display on our web site, for the public to see, the business name, address, license number or other information of those who register on TicketExchange as state licensed Sellers.

How do I View/Cancel Active Postings?
To view active postings that have not been sold, go to My Ticketmaster, click on the 'Active Postings' link, locate the posting you wish to view, and click the 'View' link. All active postings will be displayed and available for editing. To cancel a posting, go to My Ticketmaster, click on the 'Active Postings' link, locate the posting you wish to remove, click the 'View' link, and then click the 'Cancel This Posting' link.

How do I View/Edit/Remove profile information?
For sellers who would like to edit their license information, go to My Ticketmaster and click 'Edit Seller Profile.' From here, you can view, edit, delete or add a new license. To edit your checking account information, go to My Ticketmaster and click 'Edit Checking Account.' From here, you can edit or delete your checking account information. If you remove your information, you will need to re-enter your information before you can post tickets for sale. Please note that you will not be able to delete your information while your account is pending verification.

How do I get paid?
If your tickets are purchased through TicketExchange, you must send us your original tickets along with a completed Remittance Form and participate in the checking account verification process. Once we receive and verify your tickets and Remittance Form and verify your checking account information, your payment will be deposited directly into the checking account you specified during your Seller Profile setup.

If the tickets you sold through TicketExchange are Paperless Tickets, simply send us a completed Remittance Form and participate in the checking account verification process. No tickets need to be sent to us.

How long does it take to receive payment for my tickets?
Once your checking account has been verified and we receive your tickets and Remittance Form, it may take approximately five business days to process and deposit payment into your account. If your account is not verified, the process may take longer. Click on Sold Postings in My Ticketmaster to check your payment status.

Why do I need to turn in my tickets?
Ticketmaster requires that you turn in your original tickets and completed Remittance Form in order to verify that tickets sold on TicketExchange are authentic and were in your possession. This helps to ensure that TicketExchange is a safe place to purchase tickets. We will begin to process your payment as soon as we receive and verify your original tickets and the completed Remittance Form. For TicketFast® tickets, please mail or fax the original printout or a photocopy. For Paperless Tickets, no tickets need to be sent in. Detailed instructions are supplied on the Remittance Form.

Please note that viewing the Remittance Form requires Adobe Acrobat.

Do I need to turn in tickets if I've sold Paperless Tickets?
No. If the tickets you sold through TicketExchange are Paperless Tickets, simply send us a completed Remittance Form and participate in the checking account verification process. No tickets need to be sent to us.

I accidentally deleted the email with the Remittance Form. What do I do now?
If you need another copy of the Remittance Form for any reason, you can get one by logging into My Ticketmaster. Click on "Postings" to find the tickets you want to turn in. Click on the "View" to see the details. If we have not received your Remittance Form, you will see a link to download a new one. Send in your original tickets along with the completed Remittance Form to the address provided on the form.

Remember, you must send a completed and signed Remittance Form along with your original tickets in order to receive payment for your ticket sale! For Paperless Tickets, simply send a completed and signed Remittance Form.

What if I lose a ticket and can't turn it in?
For a lost, stolen or misplaced ticket, please contact Customer Service.

What happens if an event is cancelled, postponed or rescheduled?
If an event for which you have posted a ticket becomes cancelled, postponed or rescheduled before you sell it through TicketExchange, we will notify you via email and remove your posting. Until a posted ticket is sold, the purchase policies for cancelled, postponed or rescheduled events applicable to the last purchase of the ticket through a Ticketmaster ticketing system (e.g., Ticketmaster.com, the TicketExchange section of Ticketmaster.com, Ticketmaster's phone centers, a venue box office or a Ticketmaster retail ticket outlet) (the "Purchase Policy Cancellation Policies" ;) will continue to apply to that ticket.

If you sell a ticket, then once you sell it, the Purchase Policy Cancellation Policies will no longer apply to that ticket and you or anyone else who previously held that ticket. If the event is later postponed, rescheduled or cancelled, you will still be required to turn in your original ticket and Remittance Form. If the event is postponed or rescheduled, you will receive your proceeds from your sale. However, if the event is cancelled, then, instead of being entitled to receive your proceeds, you will only be entitled to receive the same amount of money you would have been entitled to receive (if any) under the Purchase Policy Cancellation Policies as if the Purchase Policy Cancellation Policies applied to you and your ticket.

If we pay you your proceeds in connection with a cancelled event, then we will have the right to recoup from your proceeds the difference between your proceeds and the amount that you would have been entitled to receive under the Purchase Policy Cancellation Policies. We may recoup this amount by charging your credit card, and if we are unable, for any reason, to charge and collect from your credit card this full amount, then we will have the right to withdraw any such uncollected amounts from your checking account. We may also request payment from you without charging or debiting your credit card or checking account.

What laws apply to the resale of tickets?
Some states, cities and counties regulate the reselling of tickets to entertainment and sporting events, including limits on the resale price. TicketExchange software is designed to aid compliance with individual resale laws.

TicketExchange may also publicly exhibit, or otherwise make available, some of the information you provide, sometimes in order to comply with ticket resale laws. Furthermore, we will make all of your information available to law enforcement agencies upon request. While Ticketmaster does its best to ensure legal compliance with applicable state laws, ultimately, complying with resale laws is the responsibility of the ticket seller.

What are the policies and other legal terms applicable to posting and selling tickets?
The policies and other legal terms applicable to posting and selling tickets can be found in the TicketExchange Selling Policy and the Ticketmaster Terms of Use. Also, the Privacy Policy governs the use and disclosure of information related to TicketExchange transactions.

Why can't I resell the same ticket an unlimited number of times?
We limit the number of times that the same ticket can be resold on TicketExchange. These limits help us provide a safe and reliable purchase environment.

If I am a season ticket holder, can I post my tickets on TicketExchange?
Depending on the team for which you hold season tickets, you may be able to post your season tickets for sale on that team's Sports TicketExchange site. In some cases, the team has rules governing who can post tickets. To find out whether your team participates in the Sports TicketExchange and if you are allowed to post your tickets for sale, please visit http://teamexchange.ticketmaster.com .

In order for this plan to work you have to have a few friends who are willing to help you out. Buy the ticket from the person on the street. have your friends wait with them until you get in the venue. once you're in the venue message them that you're in and it's all good. if it's a fake ticket you come back out. call them. ask them where they are?
