Finger Lakes Performing Arts Center, Canandaigua, NY

Set 1: Sample in a Jar, Scent of a Mule, Ha Ha Ha > Divided Sky, Guelah Papyrus, It's Ice, Strange Design, Maze[1], Cavern, Sweet Adeline

Set 2: Theme From the Bottom -> Jam -> Tweezer[2] -> Tweezer Reprise

Encore: Acoustic Army, While My Guitar Gently Weeps

[1] Brief DEG tease.
[2] My Generation jam, Rift teases from Mike, and Fishman on vacuum.

Notes: Maze included a brief Dave’s Energy Guide tease. This 40-minute Tweezer, which is known as “The Fleezer,” contained a My Generation jam, Rift teases from Mike, and, at one point, a Fishman vacuum accompaniment.

March 08, 1991

College Station Theater, Tuscaloosa, AL

Set 1: Golgi Apparatus, You Enjoy Myself, Fluffhead > Stash, The Oh Kee Pa Ceremony > Suzy Greenberg[1], Split Open and Melt, The Squirming Coil, My Sweet One[2] > Tweezer[2] -> Dave's Energy Guide[3] -> Tweezer[2], Big Black Furry Creature from Mars

[1] Stairway to Heaven tease from Trey; Auld Lang Syne tease.
[2] With members of ARU.
[3] With members of ARU. MacArthur Park quote from Trey.

Notes: This setlist may be incomplete and out of order.  It is unclear whether this was a one or two set show. Phish performed on this evening after Col. Bruce Hampton and the Aquarium Rescue Unit ("ARU"), so it may have been only a one set gig. The only copy of this show that currently circulates seems to have a cut after Suzy, and the BBFCFM cuts.  Suzy contained a Stairway to Heaven tease from Trey as well as an Auld Lang Syne tease. ARU's Oteil Burbridge on bass, Jimmy Herring on guitar, and Jeff Sipe on trombone joined Phish for My Sweet One and Tweezer -> Dave's Energy Guide -> Tweezer. Trey quoted lyrics from MacArthur Park (Jimmy Webb) during the DEG, which was played for the first time since March 1, 1989 (271 shows).

Roofless_Sheds Permalink
Roofless_Sheds if you're talking ballin' in the ALO go-for-the-kill kitchen-sink sense, there are a few other mid-90's Tweezers that need to be heard:

11/23/94, Fox Theater, St. Louis - the emergence of the '95 "Phish space". an awesome one to lose yourself inside of.

11/28/94, Bozeman, MT - 'Montana' from ALO is only a small excerpt of this great far-reaching exploration.

12/1/94, Salem, OR - officially released for a reason. great 'Norwegian Wood' jam, and fluid segues with Big Black Furry Creatures, Makisupa, NICU, Jesus, and a stellar Hood to cap the set.

12/9/94, Mesa, AZ - 'Slave' jam, with massive hose. totally underrated.

6/28/95, Jones Beach - amazing 'Dave's Energy Guide' sandwich, and great '95 light show. see for yourself:

12/2/95, New Haven, CT - this one will kick your ass, burn your town and send you the bill. no video footage, but it must be heard to be believed.

11/3/96, Gainesville, FL - with Karl Perazzo on percussion, very smooth, almost invokes a hip-hop backing track. not quite '97 funk, Fall (post-Halloween) '96 has a vibe all its own. download the SBD here, along with the rest of the excellent 'Road To Vegas' compilation!

there are a handful of other 40+ minute versions from summer '95, but i recommend seeking those out for yourself. happy Thanksgiving!

Agreed. Most of the discussion of this show begins and ends at the Chalk Dust, but that Tweezer has a great groove for a while before going spacey. The composed section is a little slow and not that tight, but the jam more than makes up for it. Definitely an underrated version.
