Don't do drugs. Seriously. Or at least don't do more than you usually would. Slightly less even.If you are about to experience the PHISH from Vermont for the first time....the band,music,lights,energy in the room, crowd etc etc etc will be enough. It seems like I am always hearing about how people missed out on great setlists for their first show because they were too messed up to enjoy it.
I know there will be an urge to go crazy. Your friends may tell you you are lame for going sober (or just not out of your mind)..but I promise seeing a show sober or close too it won't ruin it. Being TOO high or wasted....will.
Have fun..be safe......melt your face off after a show or two.

btw i really could care less what you do (unless it affects my show)...i just keep reading stories..and have heard plenty of them about missing key shows due to over partaking in some kind of substance.\Just the right amount can make the show feel like heaven..and a bit more can make your night hell......BUT if the boys are on..and the crowd is into it.....you dont need a goddam thing.

I cant dance without some bud though!haha. I saw my first show completely sober and I can attest to this, although i've seen shows really high and those memories endure too. But too much could potentially take away from the show, alcohol too. Spending the 2nd set puking in your lap couldnt be any fun. ^One jay is perfect. It's all about the drug adding to the experience, complimenting the music NOT competing with it for your attention.

i agree like seriously if its your first phish show just smoke weed drink a little and chill out listen to some awesome music! I hate the people that are all like yaaaaa man first show so ima eat 6 doses and a lot of other shit and concentrate more on getting f***ed up then realizing an amazing band is about to play wonderful music

my first show was great. met a fun guy, and he hung out with us the rest of the show. set break was a little weird though

With all respect, Couldn't disagree more. My first show at ripe age of 31, I ate 6 pieces of paper and it positively effected my life. I danced my butt off and I don't dance ha ha; "appendages flailing".
My recommendation always DD, and get ripped as to tear down your defenses and let the Phish into your soul. 2¢

I did the Tripe Face Boogie at my first show.... and honestly probably almost every one to follow until 3.0. I do not regret my decisions in the slightest. Not only enhanced my concert experience but Grately augmented my outlook on life as well. Balls deep brah

i ate 11g of boomers my first show and when the encore ended i didnt come back to my body for almost a half hour, the venue had less than 100 people in the room when i realized i was just standing there and that the show was over... grate times

If you don't get "it" at a show while sober, just quit.Aside from the occasional smoke, I am sober at shows. No beer even. The level they play at requires all of my wits to keep up.

don't do drugs in the lot. During first set, don't do any of your own drugs, but if someone passes you a joint then take a puff. If you got doses or boomers, eat em as soon as the first set ends. When second set starts, smoke/eat/drink whatever you've got, and walk out of the venue empty handed.

Honestly there were a few Dead shows in 09 and a couple of Fests that I got too f***ed up at and wouldn't mind having, but I've never been so f***ed up I didn't get the most out of the Phish. A few shows in 09 and Raleigh '10 were pushing it though.

I had a decent buzz going when I went to my first show, and going in, I had no intention of going to the show the next night (Cincy '09). Once the lights drop, nothing else matters. Keep an open mind and let the music take you where it may.

Of course you should do drugs--this should be obvious--but none of the lame recommendations in this thread will do. Since me first GD show in 1978, I've tried just about every kind of hallucinogen available, and there's only one that will really kick a Phish show into high gear: the dried skin of the bufo alvarius toad, found in the Sonoran Desert. You have to dry it and smoke it, kids; licking toads is strictly for noobs. I find that a few shots of absinthe along with the toad makes the trip's colors both warm and vibrant, with a slight honey taste. Nice. Dancing with the music can be a problem, as paralysis is a frequent side effect. And hope they don't play Maze, for obvious reasons. Scary. But your first show deserves the best buzz mother nature can supply; if Page side is the rage side, make it Toad Rage!
