I, myself, have only written a handful of reviews, but folks like @DollarBill and @MiguelSanchez have written an absurd amount of really helpful and insightful reviews (thanks guys) and deserve more credit for their work (there are plenty of other great reviewers as well, they're just two that came to mind).
tl:dr: I know ya'll read reviews, start thumbs-upping that shit!
This is the article. The preceding link is Nick's list for the uninitiated.
I'm sorry to sound skeptical, but I don't understand the logic of giving a thumbs up to every review. I suppose it's spreading cheer--every reviewer gets a little boost--but doesn't it also defeat part of the purpose of giving a thumbs up? It's like saying that every child is special; it's true, but also banal. I am adamantly opposed to thumbing up and down simply because you agree or disagree with a reviewer's opinion. But don't we want to save our thumbs-ups for those reviews that are noteworthy, well written, funny, insightful? ... At the same time, of course I completely agree that those who do thoughtful reviews deserve all kinds of kudos. They are making wonderful contributions to the Phish community.
Not to speak for @Penn42, but I think the idea is to support those who take the time to make a thoughtful critique of a show rather than the "It's all Hood!" response that doesn't really add anything. Especially if you are honest enough to write a critical review, reviewers often face backlash from people who think you are bashing the band, are not a real fan, have no business reviewing a show you weren't at, etc.
The worst is when your're in the middle of writing a review and it all deletes itself! Has this happened to anyone before? A few months back I was writing a lonnnggggg review of the first night of Creek this summer and then it all delted itself when I was talking about Waves> Bug! I have to start writing them in Microsoft Word then copy/pasta to this site.Yes!!!
I just realized I hadn't done a review for the 2nd night of the creek, and I remembered that happened to me. Of course, I got all pissed and was in no mood for a rewrite.
I just now put a new one up. God, I loved the creek run this summer...
I'm not very good at reviewing. Maybe I'll try one someday. But I'm down for reading and +1ing. It is a lot of work and I commend you folks that do them! It's not really a whole lot of work...
It's a mix of listening to phish (which gives me pleasure), thinking about what I'm listening to (which I do anyway), and having an urge to yammer about phish (which is nearly as constant as my sex drive and my wife rarely has much interest in hearing an in depth analysis of why ghost is sooo sick). Labor of love.

It was insane, despite how exhausted I was the second night. I was more psyched for those shows than any other ones before tour started.

@talkinghead:Thanks--I do understand and I appreciate the kindness and good will of the OP. And I get very frustrated when I see that backlash, or when I see people vote down reviews simply because they disagree with the content. I don't mean to be negative. It just seems to me that thumbs-up should be used discriminatingly to express a positive response to the review or post in question, not as a general correction with no particular attention to the specific review in question. Some reviews are pretty lame. If I were to push this, it seems to me that giving a thumbs up to every review could be seen as part of the problem, in that it uses thumbs-up and thumbs-down as a crude mechanism to alter the tone of the board. But, seriously, it's all good, and I do appreciate the excellent work of reviewers and the good intentions of the OP.

@TheEmu said:I agree. Even "the most serious phish fans" disagree on shows. My personal favorite reviewer, @waxbanks, and I have held differing opinions on a few shows. I really like that. People can read both, listen to the show, and make up their own mind. That's what it's all about...@talkinghead:Thanks--I do understand and I appreciate the kindness and good will of the OP. Now, I was reading some reviews today, and there was 1 that just said "I got laid after this show." Not the most insightful review.

Yes, he is that good.
@talkinghead, to clarify, I just think that anybody who takes the time to write a thoughtful review should get kudos. Like @TheEmu said, the "OMFG that ghost is tight" response, although very possibly true, doesn't really give you much info and certainly isn't that helpful in terms of the entire show. Also, I'll still thumb up a review even if it is short and boring as long as it gives me a decent idea about the highs or lows of a show, or any other notable information about a show. I think it is fairly easy to tell when someone has put a little thought into it, and that my up thumbs gets.
I have an auto thumbs up feature on my special .net rig. Whenever it sees @MiguelSanchez it auto thumbs him up no matter the content of the post. Thanks for the kind words.
Yes, he is that good.
By the way Scott, the MSG run is still a no go. I got a new job, which pays quite a bit more, but there's no way I can go. I drew the new guy straw and have to work until 1-2'ish pm on nye. Next year....I will be there

Whoa! I'm home! 4 hour drive completed!Sure. You can thumb up anyone you want. You began the thread by writing that "I give thumbs up to all reviews I read." As I've explained, that wouldn't be my approach, but they're your thumbs.... But I agree that anyone who takes the time to write a thoughtful review should get kudos. And as I hope is clear, I appreciate the kind energy and positive spirit of your posts. I'm all for encouraging insightful reviews.
