Forty-Niner's Q-Bee Situation

Jimmymac03 Permalink
Jimmymac03 So @Slothberries what do you think about the quarterback situation?

Or any other Niner's fans out there.

As a non-Niner's fan this is playing out like a soap opera. I feel bad for Smith though. I like him.

the_Crested_Hogchoker Smith had so many chances it's hard to feel bad for him. I realize there was a lot of stuff going on from the start of his career, but that's no reason to make Kapernick ride the pine.

MiguelSanchez The niners have always been "my nfc team.". Smith seems like a good guy, but lets face it, he's not the guy to take the team to the next level. The niners looked sick last night though, so I think harbaugh, thus far, has made the right move.

I will say though, you don't see teams that are doing as well as the niners have been make a qb change very often.

the_Crested_Hogchoker Kaepernick was really fun to watch in college, and I love the way SF plays football- this is going to be a really interesting team for a long time.

Smith had like 6 different offensive coordinators in like 6 years, I feel bad for him but he has lost his job in SF.

smith has been very good since mid 2010, probably top 12 overall in terms of consistency. i was thinking it would be suicide to throw an unheralded 2nd year qb into a playoff run, then i remembered about my boy tom brady.

Jayem I feel bad for Alex Smith as well but if you take a team within OT away from the Super Bowl and have them poised to make a run again but your coach is willing to replace you the second he gets the chance I am saying there is more going on behind the scenes then any of us will ever know.
They tried HARD to get Peyton Manning and missed out now one missed game and Kapernick is the guy?

The writting is on the wall Harbaugh never wanted Alex Smith he was stuck with him.

UncleEb Definitely sucks for Alex Smith - he went out on a concussion, not because he wasn't tough. Not the way to lose your job, imo. Kindof a slimeball move of Harbaugh if he lets Kaepernick take the job on a concussion like that. But I thought it was a right move to sit Smith one more game to get fully healthy. Might as well get healthy and give the kid a chance to get experience.

And the fact of the matter is Kaepernick is a more dangerous QB - he's quick and has deep ball potential. But he also risks turnovers a lot more than Smith has been doing the last few years and I would be more wary of a playoff run with a rookie. We shall see where it ends up.
