other than 'prometheus' and the occasional pay-per-view movie, the 3D stuff on my TV is dominated by my daughter....i'm OK about it, but i can only watch 'madagascar 3', 'ice age', and pixar titles so many times, you know? LOL
so, the thought that often creeps into my head is "when's that phish 3D show gonna see the light of day?" besides, we're due for something in the blu-ray format. will it become a reality, or is it dead in the water?

I don't think it will ever get released. I heard somewhere the band wasn't very fond of the way the movie turned out. It's gotta be that, or they're worried about being able to sell enough copies, given that home 3d is still a bit of a niche market, and they've released so many other DVDs in the past few years.
Other than those two explanations, it makes no sense. Usually, all the cost of producing a DVD is bound up in the editing and mastering process (which is one reason we've seen so many DVDs with summer-shed lawn feeds; they're immensely cheap to produce, since all the editing was done on the fly by venue staff).
With Phish 3D, all of that has been done and paid for already, so all they'd have to do is add some chapter titles and press it to DVD. Either they weren't happy with how it turned out, or they don't think they could sell enough to recoup the minimal cost of pressing a bunch of DVDs and cases.
all my 3d titles also included a "standard" blu-ray, so i'm not sure it hasn't been released b/c of the limited number of 3d TVs in homes at the moment. so it might very well have to do with the band's lack of enthusiasm over the performance. i missed the showing at the theatre, so i don't know good or bad it actually is......
as far as big cypress goes.....at this point, i'll take it any way i can get it, 3d or not!

I don't think blu-ray has become standard yet in homes, and 3d is even further behind.
Also wasn't Phish 3D shot in 3D? Many 3D films are made 3D in post production. If its shot in 3D can then go back to 2D for a standard DVD of blu-ray release?
Has Phish released anything on blu-ray yet?thats easy. When movies are filmed in 3D, all that means is two camera lenses were used, and the two resulting video feeds are superimposed on one another, which when viewed through the glasses produces the 3D effect. Its simply a matter of taking one of those feeds and using it while scrapping the other.

i looked around the interwebs for info on phish 3d, and i may have found the reason it probably won't get released: according to several reviews, the editing is beyond horrid. the rapid-fire style of editing is bad enough for standard titles, but it would wreak havoc on the eyes if it's in 3d. for any given scene, you'd certainly want time to soak in all the depth & let your eyes properly adjust.....but when there's a cutaway every 1-2 seconds, it sorta defeats the purpose of watching something in 3d in the first place, not to mention it'd fatigue your eyes after 15 minutes or so. bummer to read about that, 'cuz some of the audio i'd heard might not have been spectacular, but it was certainly above-average IMO......

Never spent more than like 15 seconds on any shot. And I think they didn't focus on the lights at all which I thought would have been awesome in 3D
