12/2/97 Appreciation Thread

December 02, 1997

CoreStates Spectrum, Philadelphia, PA

Set 1: Buried Alive > Down with Disease[1] -> Makisupa Policeman, Chalk Dust Torture, Ghost > Divided Sky, Dirt > Taste, The Star Spangled Banner

Set 2: Mike's Song -> Simple[2] -> Dog Faced Boy -> Ya Mar[3] -> Weekapaug Groove, Bouncing Around the Room, Character Zero

Encore: Ginseng Sullivan > Sample in a Jar

[1] Unfinished.
[2] Trey/Page musical duet.
[3] Fun play on the actual lyrics and a Crosseyed and Painless tease.

Notes: Disease was unfinished. Simple featured a Trey/Page musical duet. Ya Mar included a fun play on the actual lyrics and a Crosseyed and Painless tease. Dog Faced Boy was played for the first time since August 12, 1996 (109 shows).

As long as every other Fall 97 show is getting a 15th anniversary thread, there is no need to skip this show as well. The first set has a really high-class Ghost, and the second set is a legitimate masterpiece, five songs that all bleed together, sometimes in the most outrageous way possible, with some incredible jamming and a Weekapaug for the ages (as well as a really good Mike's and a super cool Trey/Page duet at the end of Simple). If Fall 97 is continuing to get the remaster treatment, I want this show to be next in line.

I'm listening to this RIGHT after 11/30/97 (I'm on Piper now). I can't wait!

20 minute Mike's Song, 13 minute Ya Mar, and a 16 minute Weekapaug; yes f**king please!

westbrook This is definitely one of my favorite shows of the tour and the second set is probably my favorite of the tour after 12/6 II.

mfhgreyboy Just revisited this one last week. What a fantastic second set. The ya mar (including the -> into and out of) is particularly great.

The Ghost is tight too, short for Fall '97 but very very good

bostonron My favorite fall '97 2nd set. That shit is bananas. There is a moment in Mikes, at the 9:15 mark, when Trey lays on the wah, some dude near the stage yells out "YEAAAAAH". Captures the moment perfectly.

The entire set smokes. From the beautiful Simple transition into one of my favorite Dog Faced Boys ever, to the hella funky, heavy improv Ya Mar and the crazy high energy 'Paugh. The 1st set is a little disjointed and uneven but has a great Ghost. A little faster then most Ghosts on this tour, but funky as shit nonetheless.

The segues are masterful

Simple -> Dog Faced Boy is beautiful

Features bluegrass improvisation, which is totally unlike anything I've ever heard trey do. Delicate Page. Just beautiful.

jerryguscia Okay, this show is a BEAST! The Mike's was dark, but it needs another listen; it felt kinda repetitive to me, but Trey was kicking ass and taking names! Simple -> Dog Faced Boy > Ya Mar is amazing though; this Ya Mar is so type II, it's insane

Is spreadsheet best version of this show? Have any portions been released on Archives or Bait or something else similar I might have missed?
