So I've been thinking about what I think the best Ghost of 3.0 is? Hmmm...
The two that immediately come to my mind are the 12/31/10 Disease > Ghost and the Dicks's 9/2/12 Sand > Ghost.
My vote goes to the 12/31/10 version, but I'm biased in that this is the song that really got me hooked on the Phish.
I know there are certainly other candidates and that 3.0 Ghosts don't compare with older versions, but what would y'all consider the best 3.0 Ghost?
Cincinnati Ghost, Fall 2009 is vastly underrated, imho
12/31/10 is the answer ... but 2nd place goes to 6/4/09.
6-11-10 is my favorite

check 8/15/10 set II opener Ghost out fer sher. This gets my vote. Followed by a shredding Theme

But seriously from my experience with 3.0 ghosts I gotta say 12/31/10 was sick, but I feel as though 11/28/09 deserves high praise as well. There was also Woostah '12 that was pretty good.
6/7/12 ghost> boogie was insanity. matter of fact that whole 2nd set was just bananas. carini> taste> ghost> boogie was titties my friends, just titties
6-7-12.. or 10-26-10 for this guy.
11/28/09 - Albany, NY
12/31/10 - NY, NY
6/17/11 - Another overlooked version. Very similar style jam to the 12/31/10 version. Charlotte, NC
6/7/12 - Worcester, MA

06/07/12 - Worcester
08/15/12 - Long Beach
Have high hopes for an epic Ghost on 12/31/12...
My favorite ghost of 3.0 is still 12/31/09. It kind of gets shafted a bit in light of some of the more well-known Ghosts (LB, NYE 10, Charlotte 11), but it is probably the most old-school, late-90's sounding Ghost they have played. It is pretty funky. Check it out:
Dicks '11
Toyota Park '10, I used to not really get into Ghosts until this one.
Albany '09, notable exception to the previous statement.

Mike goes OFF in the beginning before Trey fights to take over the lead with some great riffs. Then they drop into an outstanding little ALS tease/jam.

Not to take away from the jam or anybody's opinion, of course. If you love it, then love the shit out of it my friends!
I was at LB but how can you not say Albany at this point...
Also, how has Ghost NOT gotten Storage treatment? #wishlist2013 #theremin
Nobody talks about the ridiculous jam that starts at 5:30 in the 2012/07/01 Ghost, literally unlike anything I've heard Phish play, even though it is just under 10 minutes.

Great minds think alike!
That 11/28/09 Ghost is nice - long and loose but then starts rockin' at the end there.
And that 07/01/2012 is great - I feel its a solid example of the compact 3.0 jamming style, but while I dig this version, I'm more partial to the longer, more exploratory versions (not that they don't go on a brief exploration here).
That 12/31/09 brings the goddamn funk! - love the bombs that Mike drops in the beginning of the jam and the ALS teases at the end put that jam over the top IMO.
In terms of the 12/31/10 being a derivative jam of earlier Gin's I can see where you're coming from for sure. I was quite the little noob when I was there and during my subsequent listenings, but I have heard jams very similar to that Ghost pop up in other songs (maybe not just Gin?).
For me this doesn't detract from the song. I think its great that they can bring a spooky song like Ghost to such a sweet, soaring climax and then bring it right back again. Just in time for a raging YEMteca.
Still got a bunch of listening to do...Thanks everybody for your input!
IF you like ghost make sure you check out the The Daily Ghost, where I review every Ghost ever in chronological order. Still have a long way to go to get to 3.0 but it will happen. I will give you my thoughts when we get there.Hey man I've been trying to check this out everyday. I think you've been doing an awesome job with this and appreciate the effort you've put in.
