I was on craigslist harassing scalpers and this one guy said: " have fun freezin your ass off outside msg while wanting to hear a bunch of petifile weirdos play garbage"
Why does that fool get tickets yet I have been shut out by Phish on NYE all nights available for four straight years?
dont hate the player hate the game. These tickets shouldnt even be available to all these scalpers yet they are and fans continue to get shut out every year.

Questions only true phans would know. Maybe it would cut down the scalping by just a bit.

My suggestion has always, and always will be this: make a f***ing fan club! Its not that hard, a lot of bands have figured it out, make a fan club and it cuts back on scalper worries for your fans. Even Rush does it, they sell exclusive tickets to their fan club. If Phish started a fan club, you could make the lottery a fan-club exclusive lottery. Get some exclusive shirt, hat, pin, some swag, a signed poster, and a monthly fanclub mailing list. Hell, if they started a fanclub they could practically just go back to making them REAL mail order sales.

But the problem is the quiz would have to be either SUPER easy(google-able, for the newer fans who dont know as much of the history) or extremely obscure(making it easy for old heads and people who know a lot of the history, but cuts out as many newer people as it does scalpers).dont hate the player hate the game. Yeah that would be an awesome way to do it
@dkast85 said:I have heard many Phish fans greatly oppose this idea. I personally think it is agreat idea. It doesn't stop scalping but it does something. And something is better than nothing. DMB invented the whole fan club thing in 1998 with the Warehouse. So I guess that is why Phish fans are so against it. Anything DMB is not cool with Phish fans haha@WookiePhart said:I've proposed this to my friends, its a solid idea, it would at least cut back on it. I guess some people would be miffed about paying a monthly club fee. But if they made the perks good enough im sure it would be worth the fee. But in my mind 50 bucks yearly is more than enough to insure i get a fair shake in the PTBM. I think a new yearly t-shirt design, a new pin/badge every year, throw in 1 or 2 free show downloads a year(with perhaps a small phish store discount for being a member that applies to downloads and streams) and fans would be in. But i dont know if that is viable from a business perspective.@dkast85 said:I have heard many Phish fans greatly oppose this idea. I personally think it is agreat idea. DMB invented the whole fan club thing in 1998 with the Warehouse. What? DMB invented "the whole fan club thing"?
Real fan here. Had no problem getting more tickets than I needed. Could have had more too.Well, aren't you precious? Why did you get more tickets than you needed? Should have left them for other real fans.

This Thread is funny.
Scalpers get tickets through internal connections with people who work for the ticketing companies and by using computer bots that work faster than a human to get tickets for shows.
Scalpers would have to look up the answer, we'd be quickest. That's true authentication.
If they wanted to, they could just do like almost every other major act and have a huge variety of price tiers, charging much more money for good and medium seats, still charging $60-70 for nosebleeds or $45 for lawns, and make a ton of money?
Have they just not considered that as an option? Has it never crossed their mind to do that, or RLM's? Or do they realize that is an option and choose not to do it, out of some old (outdated?) sense of trying to keep the shows accessible to a majority of their fanbase, as opposed to "Stones-ing out"?
All that said, I do think its an option worthy of discussion to try and estimate demand, and set aside a number of decent seats and auction them off as you suggest. Specifically to alleviate and absorb some of the scalping demand. People that are gonna pay $500 per ticket anyway can do so, and the money goes to the band, not some scumbag middle man that adds no value to the process.
dont hate the player hate the game.Yeah, I still really f***ing hate the player, though.
eliminate scalpers, make all new years tickets $400........So you think there are 20,000 people out there willing to pay $400 for NYE?
Are you just trolling at this point, or actually that out of touch?
@WookiePhart said:If the player didn't play, the game wouldn't exist.dont hate the player hate the game.Yeah, I still really f***ing hate the player, though.
nye tickets are def worth more than the current ticket prices. supply and demand.. increase the price eliminate such huge demand. or have nye at giants stadium.......... increase supply.......That is what's f***ed. Phish is practically giving away one of the most valuable (in my eyes) deal during NYE (for entertainment) in NY. They could easily raise the prices, but they don't because they want to keep prices cheap...That's not what happens, and is f***ed, but of course will never change so what's the use in trying?
Unfortunately one must pick their battles. And in some cases the only way you're getting into Phish on NYE in NY is by losing this battle for the gain of seeing Phish.
Literally I may never see Phish on NYE without paying WAY over face. Should I lose out on this opportunity for the sake of 200-300$? At this point, f*** no.
@WookiePhart said:maybe not a quiz, but rather the email you registered with your LivePhish account and base it almost off of seniority? In the sense that those who have downloaded shows, attended shows, "true phans," have a better chance of winning lotto in the first place rather than a scalper who gets lucky then takes advantage of it.dont hate the player hate the game. These tickets shouldnt even be available to all these scalpers yet they are and fans continue to get shut out every year.what if there was a very short quiz to take before ordering PTBM. The sense I have been getting from .net is that fans here will get more tickets just for the sake of helping out friends, not to scalp, so in a way the shows that you downloaded mean you got the barcode either by attending the show or traded by some other fair means.
Has this idea ever been proposed before? It's been running through my head. Does it make sense? Or does it also leave room for more error? Such as scalpers then getting tickets and immediately redeeming barcodes?
im not rich but i love phish nye, halloween, and have no problem paying what i need too to get in if i choose so.....sometimes you just want in. not a troll just a phan who has no problem what so ever with the current ticket issues surrounding NYE.OK then, fair enough.
Certainly makes it more interesting to have people on all sides of the issues.
Are you off your meds?
Also, can I borrow some money?

Just jump em', one of them sold my 6'6 300 pound friend a fake last year, my buddy went outside found him, picked him up by the neck and got his money back as well as a real ticket, never seen a black man so scaredholy s***....
@SicMD In the last week you have gone from bragging about getting onto Phish's guestlist to see shows for free to arguing it is okay to pay $400 for a ticket. The dude mentioned his "in" when it had no relevance to this thread. That's says it all. You know how many piss offs (meaning people the band doesn't care for) are back stage on the guest list.

Of course i'm not speaking about anyone in particular, just something to ponder.
