Feeling pretty good after an unexpected 3-day weekend of self-imposed mandatory chilling-out. I watched a whole Sunday of football yesterday for the first time all season. It turned out to be just what the doctor ordered. And a Steelers win in Baltimore, taboot!

johnnyd Morning all.
Trying to justify monday night football, as opposed to monday morning QB. West coast would work for that for me. Oh well. But one of my good friends is a skins fan, so it would be fun to harras him via text all night.

I noticed yesterday there were only 2 4:00 (EST) games. It seems like the schedule has been trending this way a long time. Anyone know what the f*** is up with that? I havent really looked it up, but for a long time, wasnt it more or less a balance schedule between early and late? That would be another weird west coast thing to have the majority of games over by the time you finished your slice of canteloupe at the end of brunch.

Monday night football tonight- I am the rare, elusive Skins fan who actually admits it in public. Our season is essentially tonight. We need to win. In the (likely) case that we lose, our season is over.

Other than that, spent the weekend drinking beer and watching Breaking Bad while the girlfriend went shopping with her mother. The lady has been spending a lot of time with her mom lately, as her father passed away 2 months ago.

We're going through this right now. What a total PITA. Trying to decide if we are willing to stay in the house we are in now long enough to justify the closing costs. I think we'll end up doing it (we're not as close to moving as my wife seems to think we are. Want to move =/= ready to move).

Morning everyone!

Yea, Christmas trees (in case you missed it last night)!!!

Image

I LOVE Christmas trees. Anyone else get theirs up this weekend?

Another potentially HUGE development this weekend. My best friend's family (3 kids) and us (2) decided to arrange for alternating weeks of babysitting duties. So, one week they would go out and either Laura or I will go over to their house and watch their kids - next week, vice versa. This will increase our social life approximately 300% per month - while, at the same time decreasing costs by eliminating babysitting expenditures. And Laura and I will get to do much more stuff together (as opposed to just alternating times that we go out solo). I'm very excited about this.

Movies in the theater! For less than $100 night out!

/I'm thinking Skyfall this Friday

johnnyd Quite the coup de tat on the babysitting arrangement there, @mfhgreyboy!

Yah, we plan to be in our house a while at least, more than enough to make it worth it. In straight $$$, we make up the closing costs in well under a year. Gotta run a little deeper comparison since we are adding a couple years of payments back on the end, but its still a no-brainer.

For us, once we selected the financial institution, it has gone surprisingly smoothly.

Wow, I was just trying to remember the last big make-out session I had in a movie theater. I can't.

It really is a game changer. And now that Ian's old enough that he doesn't require constant attention it was time.

And it would be a few months less than a year for us to recoup closing costs as well.

johnnyd 15, @JayDubya.
We started with a 30 at 6% like 7-ish yrs ago. At that time, historically speaking, great rate.
Dropped to a 15 at 4.375% about 3.5 yrs ago. Figured rates couldnt possibly drop substantially below that.
Turned the corner in recouping closing costs over half a year ago. My bro is buying a house right now, mentioned he was looking at a 30 fixed around 3.0%. So I did some research and nearly crapped my pants when I saw the rates.

f*** it. I'll make the recession work for me.

I saw Bon Jovi at the Orpheum in Boston freshman year of college (Fall 1994? Maybe spring 1995). My roommate ended up giving me his extra because he couldn't find anyone else to go with him. The show was absolutely hysterical.

90% female crowd. However, all the women were either <16 or > 35. And at some point in every single song there were 15+ ladies on stage swarming JBJ. The most common piece of clothing at the show was skin tight jeans with leather patches. As good as that sounds, it's always important to remember that skin tight jeans are NOT FOR EVERYONE!
