AT&T just put U-verse in my area. The first year will be $90 less than I pay with Cox. (for cable and internet). AT&T also has better technology. Wireless HD Cable box! Put the TV anywhere you want is awesome and thier inet service is direct to the house while with Cox if everyone in my neighborhood is using the inet mine will slow down.
Reason for the thread is a lot of people I talk to about this say that AT&T sucks.
Do any of you have AT&T? Should I stick with what I have or make the change?
I can't wait to run from them. I've not had good luck with them overall. It's been better lately but for years my internet has dropped at the most inopportune times. Fantasy drafts and Phish tickets have been compromised.
AT&T U-Verse is nothing special. It maybe be fiber, but not everywhere. There is no fiber dropped into your house, still copper, so I don't really get the point. In the future it may be a better choice but right now, I'm not to sure. The HD signal is compressed, is NOT 1080p, and honestly looks worse than regular HD cable. I've never heard of the internet being anything better, maybe more consistent speeds? They don't have faster speeds, I know that.
I think Verizon Fios is the only true fiber TV network, U-Verse is still working on it, I wouldn't trust it. I almost switched, but when I heard about the picture being compressed, I said f*** that.
I cannot wait until Feb. 2013 when FiOS gets to my building
Cablevision/Optimum ... not terrible, not great. I thought of switching to U-verse but after researching, no no.DNR talk

I have Cox too. Kills me with the e-mail address. When I'm dealing with people outside the Cox service area I always feel like some kinda porn tycoon. "Yeah, you heard me right, cox.net".HAHA I spell it out for people so they have to say it back to me
Which is like 3 miles from an interstate, less than 10 miles from a state capital. In 2012.
Cable is not an option where I live.and my brother had free cable for two years or something crazy. Your off exit 9?

I wanted to post this in the Walking Dead Thread but I have Verizon Fios & got a message during the show they are, "considering dropping AMC & call this # to complain." I called them up to let them know what's good. Anyone else get this message right before commercials started? They have been running that banner on AMC for at least a week now. All part of the negotiation for a new contract. I'm sure in the end AMC will be on FiOS even if it is temporarily dropped (much like Dish did). The network is too popular for them not to carry it.
Other than that FiOS is the best system I have ever had. No cable issues and super internet speed.
I had Direct TV prior to FiOS for television and only had a few signal problems during some extramural string rain storms, but overall was just fine.
Also had comcast for years of tv/internet and never had a problem with them, just did the switch-a-roo for the cheaper pricing
Personally, once my contract is up, i will be dropping both my land line and tv service and just keeping the internet but that's another year....
I have Time Warner - bunch of cocksucking idiots!Ditched those morons a few maybe 6 months ago, FIOS is great!
I cannot wait until Feb. 2013 when FiOS gets to my building
I have Comcast for internet only now and haven't had any problems, however it is definitely more expensive than Time Warner. Once my trial period is over I'm switching to something else or at least threatening to in order to get a better price.
edit:
cox comm? really? that's a cable company's name? awesome...
I have had Cox Comm. for over 8 years. Problem free for the most part. That only is typically enough for me to stick with a company. BUTI have this same Cox bundle too - just curious what you pay for it. I am at $130+ a month for just cable (with DVR) and internets. Seriously considering a switch to FIOS; have heard good things about it.

I don't have cable. I also don't own a television. That shit's cray.THIS^^^ is f-ing awesome...didn't have one for 3 years but finally caved for dvd purposes...those simpsons are too darn fine to be without!
Cancel Cable use heady TV for couch tour, whatever comes in free, and Phish DVDs...maybe netflix for 9.99Yup, and download whatever movies or shows I want to watch that aren't on netflix.
I'd love it if a cable company would offer an a la carte subscription, where you could just pick the channels you want, with a reasonable pricing system. I just can't stand to pay 100-150 bucks a month for cable when i'm going to watch 90% of the channels and there's never anything on.
Cablevision/Optimum ... not terrible, not great. I thought of switching to U-verse but after researching, no no.So you're telling me you don't think fiber (even if it's not directly into your house) doesn't effect speed? Fiber networks, even when paired with slower mediums still have a great impact on the network speed overall.

@Chilly said:No I'm saying, it's advertised as fiber so most people assume they are getting fiber directly to their house, when in reality they aren't. I never mentioned anything about speed, or how fiber effects it, I was talking about HD TV signal. Considering they offer the same exact internet speeds as a cable company, the same quality picture on an almost identical network (cable companies use the same Fiber to Node) I don't think they achieve any more network speed than your standard cable company. Of course fiber is going to increase your overall network speed wherever it is in place, it can carry more bandwidth over a much longer distance, but cable companies already do the same damn thing, they just use QAM while U-Verse uses IPTV (which in my opinion is not the future of technology in this application). If the customer is still getting the same service at the house regardless of the speed before it gets there, I don't see anything but a marketing ploy. I work in/on lots of large network environments, specifically Arena's and expo centers. So it is complete night and day when you have multiple fiber drops from the road directly into your network infrastructure.Cablevision/Optimum ... not terrible, not great. No customer gives a shit about the infrastructure of their internet companies network if it doesn't improve their experience.
RCN....shit is so ghetto fab. Cheap as shit, but it kind of sucks.me too, but I gotta admit the price is right!
I have basic plus wireless internet. When I signed up, they threw in free DVR, free modem, the upgraded bandwith/speed (30 mbps I think) and Showtime for a year. I get all this for $52.00 per month in the most expensive city in the universe....NYC
